The new BMW X1 (E84 model code) should be launching here in Malaysia very very soon as you can already be seen around Malaysian roads if you just know where to look. Cyberjaya and Putrajaya are decent choices for a higher chance of getting to see it on the road.
An example is the photo above sent in by reader apexg2. The X1 was at JPJ Putrajaya, probably as part as of the Malaysian vehicle Type Approval process necessary for all CBU vehicles in Malaysia. The X1 will most likely be CBU, but who knows, if Malaysian buy them in decent volume like the 3 and the 5 it might become CKD?
I scoured various online classifieds for any indication of X1 prices and found RM26x,xxx for the sDrive18i and RM29x,xxx for the xDrive20d model. The sDrive model is rear wheel drive while the xDrive is all wheel drive. Malaysians looking for compact luxury SUVs have a new choice now other than the usual suspects of the Tiguan, Q5 and XC60.

I know it's an X1… but I don't know the launch time.
I am a huge BMW fan but their designs lately are not pleasing to my eye at all. I know that the technology embedded into their recent models are second to none, but nevertheless their design especially the front is my biggest grievance. Perhaps, only a matter of time I will appreciate and make sense of it all. I guess it has to grow on me just like the E60 when it was first launched.

x1 is a very refreshing sight in BMW's suv division. i've always see the other two sibling x3 and x5 as a bit serious and bulky, aimed to shoot those cayennes and landys. but x1 is more consumer oriented. a bit more fun.
i cant pay more than 2k for a vehicle, so this x1 will be just….. a dream?

Don't expect it… BMW is a premier car and it won't be cheap… if you still want something below RM200k… opt for used model X3 or X5…

I agree some of your comments here, lately the new bmw are not really exciting like few years back, the new 5 series is just like a smaller version of a 7 series. The X1 is just launching in the market just to take back some market share from Q5. With such price i really willing to pay on Q5. Hope in the future will not dissapointed us once again. But if i have a choice between a tiguan and x1, i think i still go for a x1. Due to is new and is BMW (similar price range). Or else if i have extra premium definately will go for Audi Q5.

now the new design.. i have to say not much ppl will like it at first but ithink it takes time.. cause when u see the first e90 we all also think its uek!! :P.. but then after awhile realising the drive is perfect .. the looks are great too :P
all i can say is, if BMW driving experience is bad then the styling is bad.. now the worst looking car in BMW is the X3.. and 1 series.. others are just perfect..

Somewhere Apr they will launch this car Paul. BUT well too over price and its way too small for a small family! The rear got no space at all and for 300k!!!!!! Do u think it will sell in numbers? CKD's will never happen for the 1series BMW its a good car no doubt but to sell in huge number i don think so hope i am wrong!

E90 still ugly except in E90 M3 guise. By the way E92 is cool. New F10 5er also decent though we need better front end and bumper design.
E84 design and pricing made Q5 a winner between these SUV.

Suddenly a BMW SUV looks affordable, especially when compared with the recently launched Renault Koleos.
Having a BMW X1 on the road is no big news. I've seen lots of other grey import models in Malaysia; some you would never have thought could see here. A Cadillac El Dorado & Fleetwood Brougham, Mustang GT, Hummer H2, and lots other JDM cars…
But what interests me is what is the driver of the BMW X1 doing in the middle of the country admin capital? When this my friend, what you spotted is a government LOBBYIST :)

Yeah, the X1 will be launched next week. Just got the invitation to the event which is going to be on Wednesday 7th of April. :)
