What is this – next generation Hyundai Accent/Verna or Hyundai Elantra/Avante?

This is supposed to be the next generation Hyundai Accent/Verna, snapped by Hyundai Blog reader MarkII. But it also does look very much like some taped up cars that were supposed to be the new Elantra/Avante that were spotted and photographed in the past.

The 2nd generation Accent has been around since 2005 and it’s about time for it to be replaced! It’s definitely not time to replace the Elantra/Avante yet since the latest generation was just launched in 2006 and by right it should only be due for a full model change sometime in 2012? The design cues are quite obviously from the new Sonata, resulting in a nice ‘family look’. The current generation Accent was also sold by Chrysler as a Dodge Attitude in certain markets. But now that Chrysler is in bed with Fiat, not sure if that’s going to happen again with the third generation.

Slowly but surely all the mediocre-looking Korean cars of the early 2000s are being replaced by these pretty good looking ones. For Malaysians who like sedans, cars like the Hyundai Accent and the Kia Rio represent the earliest entry price point into the marque’s sedan portfolio, although the current Rio on sale in Malaysia is only available as a hatch. If you impress with your cheapest car, when the owner upgrades his income, he is more likely to go with your brand with his next upgrade. Hyundai-Kia needs great Accents and Rios to turn the owners into future Sonata/Optima buyers

        • I think Paul is right. The side mirrors are identical with the ones shown in http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/10/scoop-new-hy…

I agree with Paul. It is different from Sonata's. Put them side by side.

I think it is a facelift rather than a new model. The latest Accent/Elantra already has flowing side profile that some people may not like (including me).

So it is practical to update the look and at the same time make the car more likable to people like me.

      • Read the article from your link about the fault in the door lock on the Sonata. Funny how some people really do something dumb like that. Perhaps its the children playing around with the door.

majority of people STILL consider hyundai/Kia to be below toyota. They've arrived to the big league table (Hyundai Genesis has won the north american COTY) last year. I think their 2010 model year vehicles are on par with the BIG T. Shame that their presence is so limited in malaysia

Guess… have to wait for our local Hyundai dealer for clarification….

Anyway , Hyundai is trying hard to move away from their previous designs which are quite unpredictable and a tad boring. The newer cars looks refreshing and bigger.

We have to wait and see how it performs…

    • If you are satisfied with the car. You are more likely to upgrade to a more premium model. That's how brand loyalty works. e.g. start with Accent move up to Elantra/Avante or Sonata. I know I will.

Shame that Accent n Rio cannot compete with proton saga blm although all of them are entry level car…

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
  • Proton can emulate this.. easy. Just sketch out a couple of good design cars and maintain or lower the current price. Everyone will buy proton. Good design doesnt have to be expensive, right?

War, if this is true… it is much more looker than Vios, Madza 2, Ford and City…

It will give Malaysia buyer a chance to rethink about korean car….

So, still the old question…RM4K for Korean LCD HD TV is OK to replace those Japanese brand…

How about the RM100K kind of spend? will Malaysian give in?

Well, if its coming out in Malaysia, better book one if you are very interested. I heard that the new Forte has had a price bump because people at Proton do not like the very cheap price tag eating into their cars. So MITI is slowly releasing those CBU cars in the market. Corect me if I am wrong.

if this is accent, it looks really decent (just from this angle).

Just like camry and altis….now that hyundai also want to do this producing car that looks like a family.

If you notice, there are already a couple of posts (advert) in autoworld on new sonata, people is testing the water, one trying to sell 2.0L at RM150k while another trying to sell a so-called used 2.4L for 148k.

Good luck if these are the final pricing…

As for the kia Forte price increase, this expected for good selling model. sometimes, i dont really think it is the government or so-called proton influence but really it could be just an excuse used by company to increase price…I had hear many reason like……government forcing us to sell at higher price, governemnt dotn approve our price reduction application, japanese yen going up, USD going up, because of TAX strcuture, etc….come on….do you really believe all these?????? honda city price increased over the years, Vios price increase over the year…honda and toyota increase their prices to all the car models, mitsubishi lancer price increase, if you can increase price directly, then you increase in-directly, reducing spec and creating anther model with lower spec but increase the pricing of the one with full spec (just compare city price/spec 6-7 eyars ago, and the current price/spec)…while in the mean time hyundai giving big discount on Avante, Tucson, Kia givng big discount on sportage.etc

This is very logical, and only consumer suffers, simply because we dont have enough strong competition…SIme, if you are reading this, with the current line up of hyundai, you have a real good product, but, it is then up to you how to get a big market share and really establish hyundai in Malaysia. …

I'm quite sure it is the Accent because there is only 4 nuts on the rim while Avante should have 5 nuts. You all should check out the spy photo.

According to korean news site it's supposed to be new Accent/Verna, but not confirmed. Anyway full-changed Accent/Verna(project name : RB) will be sold on October 2010 in korea, and full-changed Elantra/Avante(project namee : Avante MD) will be sold on August 2010 in korea, so it may be one of the two models.

    guess its the Elantra.

usually Accent looks tamer than Elantra and Elantra is just a level lower than Sonata. So Elantra will carry some Sonata image(quite a lot too this time round).

    nice design

really love hyundai design nowadays, such as sonata and santa fe

but when come to spare part, lama tunggu wooo

    like my fren hyundai matrix

fuel pump prob (car used 4 years)

3,4 months br dapat, kereta dah berdebu dlm workshop

spare part price is now too expensive, about rm300++

but really hard to find, got to order from korea br ada

that makes many people takut2 maw beli hyundai

otherwise, it can blow away T n H monopoly
