Proton launch silver jubilee celebrations – limited edition “tiger themed” Saga, Persona and Exora coming soon

I just got back from Proton’s Centre of Excellence, Shah Alam, where the national car company unveiled the official logo of its 25th anniversary, kicking off silver jubilee celebrations that will go on throughout this year. Proton has lined up a spread of contests, events and activities that will involve all stakeholders, including customers, the media, and since it’s a national car company – the Malaysian public.

Internally, there’s this logo design competition, which won Rosaidatul Nor bt Rosli RM5,000, and “special gift sets” to 651 pioneer employees who have been with the company since day one. For the public, there will be a Saga Snap & Win photo contest, which will offer RM25,000 cash to a snapper with the most sentimental and/or inspiring image of the Proton’s first car or the new Saga. I’m looking forward to throw my name in the hat with pictures of my rusty but trusty 1992 Saga.

Proton will also organise a charity road show of 125 cars from the 11 official Proton car clubs. Called “Jelajah Amal 1Proton 1Malaysia” the convoy will tour the nation with a shipping container transformed into a Mobile Technology Exhibition Unit. Dato’ Haji Syed Zainal, Proton’s MD, said that since not everyone can visit Proton, “we’ll bring the factory and R&D to the people”. Perhaps they’ll bring the EMAS concept car for its first Malaysian tour. Who knows? In addition, there will be a charity fund where RM25 from each car sold will be channelled to 25 worthy organisations.

Proton launch silver jubilee celebrations – limited edition “tiger themed” Saga, Persona and Exora coming soon

All this leads up to a gala dinner on the 9th of July, where Proton will launch 25th Anniversary special editions of the Saga, Persona and Exora, limited to 25 units each. What do we know now? Not much except that the cars will carry a “tiger” theme based on the animal’s “powerful, brave and elegant” characteristics. A 5,000 issue commemorative coffee table book will also be launched on that date, which is the date the first Saga rolled off the line in 1985. Over 3.3 million Protons have been made since then.

At the event, Dato’ Syed Zainal gave a rousing speech saying that “every time we had to swallow a bitter pill, we emerge stronger,” adding that the company’s current hurdle is to compete in the international environment. “Times have changed, customers have changed, and we need to adapt. It is time for us to evolve from local hero to a full-fledged global and competitive automotive player,” he said.

He also revealed Proton’s growth targets for this year, which is to achieve 6 to 7% growth in this financial year and double exports. The company is aiming at a 70:30 domestic export ratio, from the current 75:25, and is looking at China, India, Middle East and of course ASEAN to provide the export growth.

Great. Congratulations! Now get on with it. There’s a whole lot of catching up to do. Previously, the Koreans weren’t even considered a threat (it still isn’t much, domestically; but internationally…..) and now… See how fast the Chinese are moving too? They’re going the green route because of their domestic policies.

Yeah…. stronger. Stronger compared to itself 5 years back? Proton should compare itself with the Koreans. In a few years time, even the Chinese will overtake them. Just look the the material they use in the Exora dashboard. I’ve asked the Exora project team why don’t they use similar material as the Wira. The answer – the car will cost more…

  • I do support Proton for trying to become a global automotive player. But until they have locally proven themselves (minus the G protection), I will have my reservations. They have to prove to Malaysians first that Proton of now is no longer Proton of the past. They have to work hard on changing the stereotype which has negatively been stamped on them. All rebranding efforts will come to waste without proper quality instilled in their products. I do admit the products are improving, but is the development too slow? While Proton is making three steps foreward, other manufacturers are taking five steps. Think about it.

You do see lots of proton cars in Langkawi.

Wanna talk tax free? A persona ends up being under RM40k. So your 65k Yaris is still relatively more expensive.

They are competitive and produce genuinely cheap cars tax or no tax.

There are only four proton dealers in Victoria, Australia (the state where Melbourne is in), yet I see the odd proton on the road. And no, there arent grandmas behind the wheel. Mostly young people, especially in the gen2’s and jumbucks.

      • As I said, Proton is improving. But at a rate in which snails run faster. We’re not talking about working at a pace as in the G sector. Time is money. Business is about money. If they are willing to risk, invest and do more, they can reap more profits, make Malaysians proud and happy (which would definitely lead to good things). I do believe every righteous Malaysians, deep in their hearts want to see Proton globally succeed and make the people proud. That is also why there are super bashers and blind defenders. I used to bash (and maybe will do again in the future). The only thing keeping me from continuing to bash is the apparent visibility of improvement. My only complaint is that the improvement is too slow for today’s economy.

you’re half right anti_boros…see KIA although establish around 1944..it’s just start…it produce motorcycle at their early days, and then trucks and finally first car in 1970’s…
but since first car maybe not approved to be a car,
the JV start at Ford around 1986.,,,same situation as Proton JV with Mitsubishi at 1985…
but fact Hyundai a lot older…

You know why KIA & Hyundai successful? It’s the Koreans. They support their products through the good times and the bad. No wonder since the Korean G once BANNED ALL IMPORTS OF FOREIGN CARS. Want P1 to be successful, simple. No more Toyota/Honda/Peugeot etc. BAN THEM ALL!

But wait, if that happens there would be riots abound. Malaysians are brand worshippers. That’s why Honda & Toyota and to a lesser extent P2 are selling like hotcakes. And I should know, I own a Honda. Good for nothing. My Proton never given me the headaches that the Honda have given me!

Mampukah Proton menjual kenderaannya melebihi 1 juta unit setahun? Sekiranya tidak, apakah halangannya? Adakah masalah enjin? Kualiti aksesori/alat ganti yang rendah? Rekabentuk kurang menawan? kegagalan memahami citarasa pengguna?

Selamat Menyambut Ulang Tahun ke-25 buat Proton.
    Selamat Maju Jaya!

Why compare CBU cars? Many of the cars of the same class of the Proton are CKDs. Even in the old days many of those cars are CKD too. So it’s a valid comparison. Who gives a damn if a BMW, a Merc or a Ferrari’s price is 2 or 3 times more than usual. They’re luxury cars, they SHOULD be taxed highly!

MAA just unveiled the excise tax structure in NST quaterly review last week. Fact that Malaysia excise duty is the highest in Automotive Manufacturing country which at MINIMUM 90% compare to Thai(MAXIMUM 50%) and Indo(MAXIMUM 75%). That’s why Toyota Vios which been CKDied here sells at 90k compare to Thai at 50k. This is to protect local manufacturer which priced their cars at “high” profit margin.

      Yippi33,
Saya akui Proton sedang berubah.

Hyundai Motor Company. Semua maklumat dari wikipidea.org.

‘Hyundai operates the world’s largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan, which is capable of producing 1.6 million units annually. The company employs about 75,000 persons around the world, Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 6,000 dealerships and showrooms worldwide’

I thank you for giving us the rakyat 25 years of expensive non-national cars in Malaysia also.

I remember back in the 1985, A new Nissan Sunny 130Y is about RM16K, Corolla LE 1.3 is about RM17K.

Back then cars maybe cheap, but look at their option list la. Aircond can be optional! Now govt. have mandated standard features that must be available in every single car. If you can choose to not have air conditioning & radio, surely even Proton & P2 car can be cheap.

Plus, although back then cars are cheap, how many can afford to buy a car? How many can even afford to buy two or three cars? Back then, the most people can afford is one or two if you’re really pushing it. Nowadays, 4-5 is the norm!

Please sell P1 cars here at d same price as wat u charge d mat salleh n pak2 arab oversea ma, how come u sell cheaper to foreigner? Also make front airbags, ABS n other safety device as standard laa… no wonder road fatality is so high here…. every time accident driver have to bang their head to d steering…sakit lor itu macam. can you ask Toyota why they sell car cheaper in Arab than Thailand even though the car was made in Thai? and can you ask why Toyota didn’t give ABS and airbags as standard in all their cars?
road fatality because of Proton? come on la, Proton and Perodua does help the low income group to own cars and reducing road fatalities… because of P1 & P2, you can get a car in a range of RM20k – RM50k. cheapest Vios & City is about RM60K. without P1 & P2, more people use motorcycles and road fatalities will be higher.

2 – in malaysia, it is the gov who say what are standard accessories in car. in malaysia, p1 and p2 sell both the one with airbags, abs etc and the one without. but lots of malaysian still buy the one without maa.. if i do business, as long as there are ppl buy, then i just sell laa.. better for you to educate your fellow malaysian rather than simply finger pointing.

25 years of Proton EXISTENCE means 25 years of SUFFERING from us, citizens of Malaysia

Proton vanished our Automobile industry through the protection from G!!!!!!!

It is funny to see them celebrate it for producing junk cars until now and still able be proud of it….The word “SHAME” definitely not in their dictionary.

If Proton free itself from the protection and make it more open to others car makers, fair price (Proton cars priced more lower in other country, WTF) , i will be thier slave for whole life.Of course this would not happen bcoz they will be close shop the next day.

    THIS IS THE C

you suffer because you have to pay tax for imported car? why are you short minded?
what most important is food, house and jobs… do you suffer due to food shortage, no house to stay, and no job? our foods and petrol are heavily subsidised, don’t you realise that? without those subsidies, I don’t think you would even bother thinking about imported cars. you’re just arrogant and ungrateful b@stards!

basis car from Proton = Saga = RM30k
basic car from Toyota = Vios = RM50k without tax..
with that RM20k different, I can buy petrol for 100 months.

Without tax, Vios is a much cheaper and reliable car. The Proton had diverted the rakyat money from other more important usage such as education. In UK, they need a car only uses 10 months of salary. In Malaysia, a car uses 50 months of salary. Proton exploit the rakyat for their own profit. This is one of the reason why Malaysia never progress because Proton cause the rayat spend most of their income on car. Proton actually make the quality of Malaysian life poorer.

people can keep comparing with UK…
rental there easily eat half of your salary. £200 per week or £800 per month. that’s RM4000 per month for rental, do you pay that rental price here? and your salary will be about £2000 on average, then deduct income tax about 25%. roadtax is based on CO2/km, usually bigger cc will have much higher roadtax. how much you have left? still thinking about buying expensive car?

I would rather have the govt impose high tax on imported cars than abolish the tax and increase other tax to recover the income lost from abolishing it… At least with high tax on imported cars will only affect ppl who buys it… if the choose to increase income tax or any other tax, a lot more ppl will be affected… just to ‘puaskan nafsu org yg nak kete import’ we have to make other ppl suffer???? In UK, where the market is so free….. the taxes are crazy…. income tax already about 20%….

basher will always be a basher…Lots of thing proton had achieved in only 25 years…from only a car assembler proton now design and produce their own car…yeargh maybe you can say that the quality is not on par to other establish car maker..but they are improving…i believe proton will success in the future because they currently in good management under DSZ. Achievement question should be ask to P2…what have they achieve…still an assembler since day one…still jaguh kampung…yeargh p2 sales more then p1 domestically but total sales worldwide….questionable rite…at least p1 have vision and effort to be a global player…they slowly been accepted by worldwide consumer…and that is good enough for me to always support them.

And stop using weak plastic joints in your door handle! Dunno how is the current model looks like but was frustrated with Gen2 and new Perdana bits.. plastic can be strong, but u gotta design it to be strong…

25years of what? Even banks not convinced of Proton quality with higher car loan interest rate, what more for rakyat not to be pissed by Proton. With the rest of cars national or foreign brands being overpriced at least RM20K(otherwise for 5years of petrol expenses) in crazy taxes duties, that money also factored in already crazy bank loan rates which end up you pay double or triple car price in total unnecessarily. Car being forced as luxury, not necessity anymore. Enough lah Proton 25years of r.i.p rakyat in pain.

Think logically! Proton cars are cheap, ergo if they put low interest rate, the amount they gain as profit from the interest is small! Likewise for non-national cars, the amount of loan offered is high, which meant that even if the interest rates is low, they can still have a big amount of profit. I did a calculation at the Peugeot showroom last month and surprised to find that even with 30k downpayment the amount of money I end up paying for interest is almost half the loan price! And that’s with a lower interest rate to the Proton, where right now it’s 3.9 for 7 years! Don’t blame Proton for that, blame the banks for profiteering!

Over 3.3 million Protons have been made since then 1985, I wonder how many of our rakyat has died in horrific car accidents due to poor safety features from Proton cars which Proton never bothered to enforce as a standard. May all your souls rest in peace as Proton celebrates their 25 Anniversary and continue to produce hopeless cars and no safety features at all. (Safety features are all extra or only offered in the High Line vehicles …sad but true). Protons make your statement “Safety First” and offer them in all versions of your cars moving forward, and then there is something to celebrate about.

25 years…congrats Proton, may Proton goes on improving in the future, I really wish that some of the basher here would set up a car company, do their own R&D, build their own engine, design their own chassis, basically their own car…in a positive way they would provide competition and show to Proton what the standard they want at an affordable price (P2 doesn’t have a car of their own), but until then Proton is our national car manufacturer, and i’m proud of it

blaming the tax will get u nowhere as there will be tax anywhere u go, I once lived in Germany although u can say the car there is cheap in comparison to the price here, the road tax is high, there’s no fuel subsidy, its an open market so don’t get ur hopes up to get cheap fuel, even the tax for the food there is high. so if u look at the bigger picture everything adds up to nothing is cheap.

standardizing the ABS, airbag…Proton do provide it for the H-Line, so there’s no reason people can’t buy it, if they were to put it on a B-Line model, u won’t get it at that low price will u? everything will cost u. then customer would to ask for a cheaper no need the airbag and ABS-lah car…

anyway as a fellow Malaysian, I wish Proton many success in the future, may u continue to improve domestically and globally

A man at 25 years of age would be independent already. Of independent income & maybe even a father. It would be shameful if he still is still taking pocket money from his parents.

Here is a story of a man named Proton, who at 25 is still being protected by the father. Albeit he is trying hard to grow up but when a child has been spoilt & pampered, it will be very hard for him to change his bad ways. Worse still when father continue to pamper & protect him, Proton will not be given the chance to fight on his own & learn life lessons. It’s lucky daddy has deep pockets.

Cantonese calls this type of son “mou yoong chai” (useless son).

Except Proton is a father and has been one for a long time. Lotus is the son that works for the father.

Also, Proton hasn’t gotten a bailout in years. They are surviving on their own sales. They haven’t taken any money from the government lately so your analogy is moot. At the same time, 25 years is still pretty young for a car company and a car company to achieve changes at this pace is still good. I’m not saying that they’re blameless and that they’re not fast enough but credit where credit is due. They’ve been improving for the past couple of years. You can’t deny that.

Also, if Proton disappears thousands upon thousands of jobs will disappear and a piece of the GDP is gone too. We all have a stake in Proton. It’s not easy to close up shop. You need to be able to look at all those people that will lose jobs and lose financial stability when Proton is gone and tell them that it’s all for the better. I want you to be able to do this with a good conscious and be able to sleep well at night.

I wouldn’t be able to do it. I have family members that work in Proton and if they lose that, they lose their livelihood. Yes, I’m a little biased in that sense but I tell it straight at the same time. Proton is improving. Proton is getting better. Would you kill someone who was recovering? No. So, give Proton a chance. They’re going in the right direction when all other car companies in the world are suffering from the recession and from bad publicity.

      • I’m not suggesting that it goes away, I am just suggesting that they need to quantum leap their development and stop miscalling on developments (Savvy? But i do agree Exora is spot on good call).
IMHO, they need to start cleaning their lineup as well.

Redundant series that might as well merge into 1 better product. My opinion below.
        Example:
Gen2/Persona/New Saga? Do you really need 3 different product to cater 1 specific range?
Savvy? Not really that good a seller, let’s see how when EMAS replace it.
Waja/Perdana? They seriously need an update for this, heard something is coming out. Hopefully it will look nice. If it’s ugly, then.. GG. TQVM.
Satria Neo, design really not bad, but need refinement instead of special edition. Interior looks cheap, dun you think so?
Exora, good call, but your previous bad calls have been hindering the sales of this one.

2cents donated. Hope it doesnt kill.

For me, I think they should merge Persona & Gen-2 into one model, like Wira. Put them in C-segment only 1.6L engine. Waja should be at least 1.8-2.0 same class as Civic. Saga remains as it is now.

But if you think Proton’s product line-up is weird, you should look at American car makers. They often have similar cars but different brands! It’s not platform sharing mind you, only cosmetic changes and lo and behold a new car.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
          • That’s even better.. they share same parts.. lol. They do have very confusing brands etc but they are doing their clean up now. Let’s not compare what’s bad. We compare what can be improved.

Civis is a C-segment. I think you want to place the “new” Waja into the D-Segment. Gen2/Persona needs to be bigger in order to get into the C-Segment. For now i classify them as a B-Seg only. That’s y same as new Saga. And yea, we need a “new” Wira, one that will be as successful when the Wira launched back then.. not just a new car. Proton can do better for sure, it’s just that until now, what have you heard of new plans except for EMAS?

        You want the truth?

The truth is that Proton started with good intentions (as with all things), then went tits up when politics came into play (as with everything M’sian; just like the RM400K 1Toilet in Bkt Bintang). Ruling party ideology got mixed into the equation. It became a racial pride, more than a business. Protecting the cronies suppliers who had ties with ruling party higher echelon became more important than getting quality suppliers. Kick backs are expected at every level (if the ruling party is doing it, so can I mentality). Tidak apa attitude of the rank & file (after all, I’m ketuanan race, they cant fire me).

Proton’s annual production is only 1 month’s Toyota global production. The economies of scale is against Proton. What is wrong with being an assembler & parts manufacturer (just like Thailand), so as long as there is employment for the rakyat. VW made an offer but the racial pride got in the way. How can the superior race be mere assemblers when they can build kampung hero quality cars. But it’s opening the closet that hides all the cronism, corruption, abuses that worries them most than the loss of pride.

This country has so much going for it. But ultimately, it’s been F%$* by the racist, corrupted, greedy, egoistic politicians.

In an open economy you economic illiterate, like Germany, your salary is high, car is relatively cheap and every thing else is within reach.

When the last UK car company was sold to the Chinese, did the Brits went amok, riots, major unemployment etc? No. P1 monkeys are parroting BN government and are merely using FUDs Fear Uncertainty and Doubts instead of telling the whole truth.

To you P1 defenders, if Proton and you had the balls, then remove the tax…see if Proton can go head on, mano a mano with the big boys, or just another chicken run.

If thing’s so cheap why don’t every American drive in Bentleys? Why does a 7-11 worker in Japan can earn RM 9000 a month but still feel things are expensive?

We want cheap cars, subsidized stuff but we’re not willing to pay more? Where are they going to get the money?

I lived in Germany once, and I know what u’re saying is rubbish, the salary is not as high as u think, and if the prices for stuffs there are not as low either, do u check how high their taxes are? there taxes everywhere in every country in the world…it’s a fact and a few of those countries do take the advantage of these taxes to help their own industries to grow (not restricted to cars, even industrial product, commercial product etc..)

I don’t care if u’re an opposition follower or not but taxes is not just about protecting proton, anything foreign who wanna make profit from should pay to this country, its common sense. and we don’t see people who can afford to buy BMW, Merc complaining about import taxes do u?? what does that tell u? if u want to get something earn it instead of blaming everything on everyone else

25th anniversary for Proton and reading all the comments from top to bottom made me realize how wrong Proton has got it working for them for the pass 25 years, from a national automotive maker to producing cars and providing for our rakyat Malaysia making it a better country in terms of automotive availability & lifestyle.

Proton started 25 years ago under a great visionary, our great Tun Dr.M and still is a very great person to admire till today. He set the stage to bring our country up and produce our first national car, if I think back, that would be the proudest moment for all Malaysian at that point of time. Then as the years move along and Proton started to show sign of trouble coming up with new cars and getting the image of bad quality and very low safety standards set for our national cars. Then it just keep going on trying to build their own engine (Campro, took a number of year to finally get CPS to work) and then came very first design national car Gen2, which was and until today, in my opinion a very sporty and good looking car but that is all. If I look at Proton’s history the only car very well manufacturer and gave very little problems were the Proton Putra and Satria GTI, apart from that every other car had problems from the start till the end of its cycle, the ones which did not have any problems and people are still using those Proton models, I guess are lucky enough to have actually got good working parts and maintain well by the owner of the vehicle.

Proton is something every Malaysian should be proud off as our national car manufacturer however Proton is not listening to the voice of the public and not conducting proper research to make sure their new models comes out with less problems and really quality control is bad, really bad at times, I’ve heard so many proton mechanics tell, apa boleh buat, kereta Proton bang, kiland pasang macam ini, kalau tak boleh guna, kita tukar aje lar, asalkan masih dalam warranty. I mean if the people working for Proton has those mind set, why would we think any further or otherwise. Why can proton do something about those problems, get good quality parts, even if the car price remains hefty, I’m sure many Malaysians will support their national car as it’s our pride and glory for the nation. I’ve read so many forums from Proton clubs where they have even gone to Proton HQ, plants to relate problems from different model cars which Proton produces, and yet very little are done by Proton to help rectify those problematic issues on their vehicles.

I guess, if I were to look overall, the Proton top management people need to have clearer directives and proper objectives which serve’s in the best interest of our rakyat Malaysia. By doing that, they can change the vision of people working in Proton, have a much better research and development team, better quality control and take feedback from the public seriously and show they are doing root cause analysis and coming up with action plans to further improve the vehicles produce and the services given. I’m sure If I were to bring up about Proton service centers in Malaysia, tons of stories will come up, move bad than good, why is that, because of bashers condemning Proton, I don’t think so, I believe it’s because the Proton Service Center itself is not doing a good job providing efficient and quality service.

Proton has done a lot, I’m just saying they should be doing more, have gotten a good design hybrid car is a good step to help promote Proton among the global players but I believe the focus should be on our local shore’s before moving abroad. Anyway these are my opinions, it might not solve anything and may sound that I’m condemning Proton, but I’m not. I hope in the future, I can confidently walk into a Proton Showroom, and admire the upcoming new models from them and mention, wow, what a great car, excellent design, very good quality, handles very well and can’t wait to get my hand on this Proton car.

Always think of a solution before relating a problem that will drive us Malaysian to live a better life and respect each other, towards Vision 2020 and One Malaysia.

Industrialization has bring malaysia to a level of what we at today.

If there is no one industry to be a catalyst, Malaysian will still be agriculture nation i think. 25 years, and we have the knowledge on how to make a car. Because of that, others has the knowledge to make metal forming, plastic forming, electrical, programming etc.

Laymen will never know this… They always believe the Japanese, German are better than themselves… To them, they are cleverer, so, let they design and make, these laymen will just use it… less thinking!

and because car workshop existed earlier than the automotive industry and automotive engineering… they tend to think the level of car making industry is at the same level as car repair shop…

I think these people is a waste actually…

25 Years, but they grab nothing.

    • ……………..VISION OR APPARITION

Only history will tell whether someone is a man of vision or illusion (on Proton) Don’t be too early to make claims.

Pol Pot thought he had the vision to turn Cambodia into a agricultural champion via collective farms and communes. He wanted to create a totally new society instead of building on existing foundations. The result a quarter of the population perished, the country crippled. Just like Proton sidelined the existing vehicle assembly infrastructure to singlehandedly revamp the industry. The reality is Proton stagnated, our assembly capacity retarded.

Mao Zedong also had a vision to industrialize China with mega projects. His steel project is the Great Leap Forward, but it instead destroyed China’s already primitive agricultural tools into useless iron. Proton destroyed our auto components export potential and gave it to Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. It destroyed others and has meager exports itself.

Kim Jong Il believed his vision of a nuclearized Korea will keep his country safe and strengthen his bargaining power. But it impoverished his country due to sanctions, embargoes. His country was isolated and spurned. Proton made investors run to Thailand (Asean), China India (Asia) foregoing M’sia. It made Thailand Indonesia retaliate against our palm oil and rubber in trade negotiations. China and India also will, later.

Hitler thought his vision was leading Germany to world greatness and prowess. In the end he brought his country to her most shameful defeat and destruction. Proton has dreams of greatness for the country, but it has brought shame by losing money in its own country despite the massive support of protectionism. Now it needs the extra support of a teething retiree?

      …………..DREAM OR DISASTER

Proton is a success or a saga, dream or disaster, time will tell. But the signs are not good! A company that needs an 85 yr old retiree for protection cannot be that good!

History is there to be learned and exampled… the failures are to be examined… the weakness are to be improvised…

what signs are there to show that Malaysian economy are falling behind? Our stock market is not dropping year by year isnt it?

Luxury cars keep flooding on the malaysian road isnt it?

Hitler dreamed the people’s car a.k.a Volkswagen. Need I say more?

Proton is at its state because there are people with the mentality like SY0H, littlefire etc in the company being hypocrites. Pulling a salary from the company while not working to improve the company.

In fact, most of Malaysia’s malaise stems from people like them, who blame others for their misfortune, while at the same time not doing something to actually make something out of themselves. Tell me, how to succeed?

that’s staff are saying we seemed to be living in a world that we idolize the Germans, the Japanese so much that we failed to see that we can achieve what they had achieved. its because of these worshiping that cause instead of trying to help improving ourselves, giving support and helping our own grow, we condemn them and never giving them a chance when all they’ve done is improving year by year.

it’s not a syok sendiri statement..Germans are proud of their automotive industry, so do we Malaysians should be proud of our own automotive industry..

  • We need better public transportation. Proton could diversify after 25 years in automation engineering.

For all basher, I’m finding it strange for all the grunges with p1. Maybe you had bad experience, move on.. life does not resolve around a brand of car..

With thousands of road fatality a year, we need more than a safe car, we need better engineered road design and better drivers behind the wheels.

25 years has gone, it is part and parcel of our life story too. Maybe one day proton would dare enough to produce other mode of transportation. Who knows? The only constant is change…

    Proton Saga X 25 unit + Proton Persona X 25 unit + Proton Exora X 25 unit = 75 unit…
Donation is RM25 per unit, so RM 25 * 75 units in total is RM 1875

RM 1875 divide by 25 worthy organisations = RM75 per worthy organisation will be given by Proton after 25 years stealling millons and millions of RM from our rakyat and selling hopeless cars…… How wonderful Proton .. KUDOS .. One Proton … One Malaysia !!

    Happy 25th Silver Jubilee

I would have expected greater impact news than just new theme for current Proton car models and charity drive. Minds of people will remember Proton achievements, if Proton release new models of Proton car, upgrade of engine…

As CEO statement “It is time for us to evolve from local hero to a full-fledged global and competitive automotive player”. Your claim local hero as in protection received by Government was an understatement. Increase %5 export (70:30) is not an aggressive improvement in export maybe you just lost export to IRAN (PM Najib agreed sanction) and can export to country which have not automobile policy in placed (undeveloped countries perhaps).

There was an inset picture of a few slightly unconventional front-looking Proton Saga models on the newspaper. Not sure whether those are the limited edition tiger themed or spiced up modified Protons by Ah Bengs.

It was on The Star newspaper dated 24 April 2010 under StarBiz Week section titled ”Higher loan rates will hit car sales”.

Paul, any updates on the limited edition “tiger themed” Saga, Persona and Exora or can check whether the pic on the newspaper were the ones? Thanks.

Nak jadi negara maju, tapi nak layanan macam negara mundur.
