Goodyear International Drift Series in Malaysia this month!

Goodyear is one of the main movers of drifting in this region, and after supporting the Formula Drift Asia series since its birth a few years ago, the tyremaker is taking its involvement a step further by starting up the first International Drift Series in Malaysia. Called the Goodyear International Drift Series, this Goodyear Malaysia organised event will be held on June 12-13 at Precinct 3, Putrajaya (open ground behind the Palace of Justice).

There will be 40 drifters vying for glory, including special guest Daniel Woolhouse a.k.a. Fanga Dan from New Zealand. If he sounds familiar, the Kiwi was placed third in the previous Formula Drift Asia round in Singapore. His ride, a RB26DETT-powered Holden Commodore, is the poster car for the event. Of course, Team Goodyear Malaysia is participating, and the quartet of Ariff Johanis Ahmad, Azrina Jane Abdullah, Michael Gan and Hanizam bin Hamzah will be there. Hanizam (nicknamed Loyai) is perhaps eyeing to avenge his defeat to Fanga Dan in Singapore!

The rules are per Formula Drift Asia. Drifters will be judged on Speed, Line, Angle, and Overall Impression. The 40 cars will battle it out in qualifying to make the top-16 cut, which will then be trimmed down to eight, four and the final duo. Qualifying is done solo, but head-to-head (or rather door-to-door) tandem battles await in they qualify for the top-16. The judging panel (one each from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand) will be supervised by Formula Drift USA judge Andy Yen, who also sits on the judging tower in FD Asia meets.
