Naza’s Ducati arm Next Bikes Sdn Bhd launches the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 earlier late last week and the event was graced by the lovely Joanna Belle Ng, Miss Unvierse Malaysia 2009.
The Multistrada 1200 was first revealed at the 2009 Milan International Motorcycle Show. It’s described by Ducati as being four bikes in one, which combines the sport, touring, urban and enduro concepts. The bike has an upright riding position like a touring bike but is smaller. For safety, it includes a Bosch-Brembo ABS system on the S model and comes standard with an eight-stage traction control system, which has a response time in the milliseconds. Other standard equipment on the 1200S model includes the Ducati Electronic Suspension by Ohlins.
“Ducati has designed a motorcycle to tackle all kinds of journeys and road surfaces using technology derived from the Bologna made race bikes in MotoGP and World Superbike,” said Naza Group Joint Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dato Hj SM Faisal Tan Sri Nasimuddin.
Ducati aimed to make the 2010 Multistrada a far more flexible bike than anything it replaces. It was to offer proper sportsbike performance, true long-range touring abilities, easy commuting and a genuine ability to get off-road and play in the dirt. The new bike boasts some 150hp at 9,250rpm and 118.7Nm of torque at 7,500rpm, a detuned version of the 1198’s motor – more than the 90 horsepower of the older Multistrada 1100DS.
Total ownership cost has been improved as well – Ducati has increased the time between major services to an owner-friendly 24,000km. The doubling of the mileage between valve clearance inspection has been made possible with the introduction of a new valve seat material that is combined with improved combustion efficiency and temperature management.
The new Duke’s pricetag is anticipated to be between RM120k for the standard model up to RM139k for the top of the range, but confirmed pricing will only be unveiled later.

BMW’s GS1200, yamaha tenere 1200 and honda pan european all uses shaft drive which are better in the long journey. why ducati don’t follow that trend? for ease of maintenance sake. but anything, they sure have their own reason like to change the sprocket ratio maybe. as this is a sportbike also ;)
agreed….will be a maintenance hassle for touring bikes w/out shaft ( maybe duke dun want to loss those horses if used shaft but its a touring bike for godsake??..u have yr 1098 etc…for track days)

c’mon! if not for the taxes, would imported cars be so out of reach to the majority of the public?
if not because of the taxes, P1, P2 and its local vendor wont survive. Not to mention all our local assembly factory like Naza, Tan Chong, Sime Darby etc that if not because of taxes, they dont exist. All of them generate about 100,000 job n if they dont exist, these 100k people is definitely out of job. Higher unemployment rate will lead to higher crime rate, inflation n major negative impacts. We are still developing we need money for development. Our main source of income is FDI but we are losing out most of them to China, India, Indonesia because they offer better facilities n of course cheap labor cost.
And with the corruption going on in our country, things become more complicated. c’mon use ur brain.

as much as i like a Ducati, it’s waaaaaayyyyyyyy overpriced here in Malaysia……probably due to the tax structure…..but i do wonder….i mean the Triumph Street Triple R here in Malaysia costs ~RM63k and it’s supposed to be imported from the UK…the Ducati Hypermotard 796 is price ~RM79k….both bikes cost around USD11k in the USA….is it that Naza is charging a premium for the Ducati? the same goes with Harley Davidson sportster iron 883 which cost USD11k but is priced close to RM110k here in malaysia by Naza
Why the high tax structure here in Msia? There’s no P1 or P2 bikes to be protected? W/out tax this bikes can be price around 40-50K which will increase buyer to use it as an alternative commuting devices and help reduce the traffic jam (dun worry, mat rempit will not afford this 30-50k bikes)…anyway, kudos to Kawa…their reasonable price ER-6 had increase its usage among exec in KL and somewhat help reduce the “gridlock “.
This bike was released some time ago, its just that only a formality to relaunch here in Malaysia. This bike was used in a tender bid again Honda for Gov usage, unfortunately Honda ST1300 won the bid.
Just as rageaccel2 said, its a pity they dont use shaft drive. but from the design its more high-end dual purpose with touring capability like motor. Honda ST, BMW GS12 or Tenere are more advance and reliable. Perhaps Multistrada is not yet mature in these aspect. As you have read, Valve clearence is at 24,000Km too short if to compare with Japanese made (around 48 to 50,000 KM)
But the design is sure top class, Other motor manufactures still unable to beat Italian design. (In football maybe lah !!!!)

This DP/Touring are more comfortable for high mileage touring….but i do believe its chain drives might reduce its appeal amongst those high mileage bikers
