After a successful outing at MAEPS Serdang last year, Formula Drift is back in Malaysia for 2010. The Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia 2010 will be held downtown at Dataran Merdeka on 18-19 December. The season ending Malaysian leg is the third FD Asia event for 2010 – Formula Drift Singapore happened back in April (read the report here) and Formula Drift Thailand is scheduled for 20-21 November.
Organisers are hoping to lure up to 50 drifters from across Asia-Pacific to burn some rubber in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad building in December. The event will see the return of some familiar faces such as Ryuji Miki from Japan, Daniel Woolhouse aka Fanga Dan from New Zealand, as well as Team Goodyear Malaysia drifters Ariff Johanis, Azrina Jane, Michael Gan and Hanizam bin Hazmah. The cream of the local scene including defending champion Tengku Djan should be in the mix as well.
“Drift in the ASEAN region is one of the fastest growing motorsports in the region today and we’re delighted to be renewing our affiliation with Formula Drift. Goodyear has always had a rich heritage in racing. Its legacy is derived from an association with different forms of racing all over the world for over 100 years which has enabled Goodyear to extract significant learning, relative to tyre performance that can be ultimately passed on to our consumers,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, MD of Goodyear Malaysia. Goodyear is the title sponsor of the event.
