BMW Driving Dynamics Weekend – photos & videos

Here’s some videos and photos from today’s BMW Driving Dynamics Weekend event at Auto Bavaria Sungai Besi. Participants listened to a briefing about how BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control works to keep your BMW in check, but after that comes the fun part, where you get to try out the BMW 320d in a parking lot that’s kept continuously soaking wet, first with DSC off and then with DSC on to see the difference!

Look after the jump for one more video and a set of photos from the event. There are another three sessions tomorrow and slots are still available so please call BMW Voice at 1800-88-3000 to book your slot for the BMW Driving Dynamics Weekend.

        VSC term for Toyota,
        VSA term for Honda,
ESP term for most american & european.

        * but Lotus handling in PROTON is no related with this type safety system…Proton cheat people by advertise/promote their Lotus handling looks like ESP / VSA / VSA function…

All are the same thing just the name term used is different. but this safety system hv little slightly different for all manufacturers..

are are 2 main points in car safety. an inherently good handling car is still the best choice as the limits of the car before things go wrong is much higher. you will have greater stability, better cornering ability, and more importantly, better braking performance. this is called active safety. Secondly, there is passive safety. This comes into affect after “things have gone wrong”, when you have lost control, or crashed. Items like ABS, VSC, DSC… etc, then good crumple zones, seatbelts, airbags etc.

in short, active safety helps you avoid the problem first before you have to rely on passive safety.

You can bash on my proton for poor workmanship,
          I won’t mind,
you can bash on my proton because the fuel consumption isn’t that great,
for that too I won’t mind,
but when you start to talk crap about the ride and handling of proton cars
then I will have to shove it up your ass and say
          screw you mr. sampan rider.

      Dynamic Stabilty Control

its a form of electronic stability assistance to help your car maintain its course on the road.

it can brake individual wheel or reduce engine power depending on the situation..

The voice of the commentary was annoying… trying to be funny.. but not funny at all.

    • yes he’s annoying, his voice is very flat, should add bass a bit and he should improve his intonation too, much more towards intoducing and explaining the whole story rather than raw speaking

He was not the commentator, he was the drive instructor, Ivan Kong. He actually performed all the crazy stunts in the last video. And he was inside the car, right next to the drivers when he made all these commentaries.

To have a better understanding, here a real video of testing ESP/VSA/VSC/DCS working on ice surfaces. If it works fabulous on ice, it sure will on normal road. Skip to 6:30 if you are impatient.

I was the driver!! I’m the one in blue and I have to say I did have a headache after so many rounds of spin. However no doubt it was an awesome experience doing the spins.

Hahaha …. I was the driver before you. Paul did not show the video of my driving, probably because my driving sucks! Anyway driving in DTC mode will simulate drift for you, no need to do complex heel-toe maneuver! So get a beemer and you will relive Tokyo Drift effortlessly!

DSC or electronic stability program SHOULD BE STANDARD ON EVERY new car. EURONCAP, ANCAP and NHTSA (all national / pan european) car assessment programs have hailed this as important as the safety belt was in saving lives. Every time i read in the star newspaper that a family died because the driver lost control i cringe….

    • I agree with you on this but the problem is Malaysians are only used to SEEING quality. They will pay for expensive rims, but turn down active safety. Today in the papers there was talk about making airbags standard. You only deploy airbags in a CRASH! How about preventing a crash?

The ppl in this sector should propose that fuel efficiency and safety technology become tax free. More people can then afford to buy better cars, and better cars would be priced fair in the country.

better driver training is more important than stability control. true, better safety items are there in the car to help save you when you’ve gotten in trouble. but to me, a better driver avoids problems, which smart gadgets do not do. i rather have a whole bunch of smart drivers on the road, then a bunch of idiot drivers who think that with DSC, blah blah, they will not get into an accident.

reuben I agree with you. There’s a lack of push on the government side on the side of safety. Are Malaysian lives cheap? I sometimes wonder especially when I see confusion about setting up a helicopter service to save lives during emergencies but clear direction when building another gigantic 100-storey tower.

The good thing is that stability control is already available on low end cars, thanks to Naza for their Peugeot 308 and Kia Forte. Then people complain about the low resale values of these cars… :D

The most important thing malaysian need right now is a better + educated driver. No need for an air bag when people still over take from the left ( like using emergency lane ), speeding like there is no other people on the road, some of those with wife and child on board still act stupidly by tailing others. So is DSC, ABS, EBD or etc should be our focus? We should focusing is building a safe driving mentality first, then we move into passive safety. Even BMW or Merc (which their car had a excellent passive safety item) driver also some times become a retard on the road. Please, drive safely for the sake of others, if any of you want to ‘terjun longkang’ then do it alone.

LOL you cannot drift even when throttle is floored when it’s turned on. A very safe system indeed.
