After a period of inactivity, the Skoda brand has been relaunched by franchise holder AutoPraha Sdn Bhd, which is part of the Berjaya Group. The two models spearheading this comeback are the Octavia RS and the Superb.
The Octavia RS is the range topper of the Octavia Mk2 family, which was introduced in 2004 and facelifted in 2009. The Octavia sits on VW’s PQ35 platform, which underpins a big number of cars within the VW Group, such as the Golf Mk5, VW Scirocco, Eos and Tiguan, as well as Audi’s A3 and TT, among other models.
The Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0 TSI petrol engine with 197 hp and 280 Nm of torque (as per Golf GTI Mk5) paired to a six-speed DSG gearbox. 0-100 km/h is done in 7.2 seconds, slightly, but not much slower than a GTI.
The long standard kit list includes xenons with AFS, fog lights with cornering function, multifunction leather steering, 12-speaker and in dash 6-disc ICE system, ESP and front/side airbags. Also thrown in are the go faster bits seen here.
Moving on, the Superb is the brand’s biggest car and flagship model. Unveiled at Geneva 2008, the Superb sits on a stretched version of the platform used by the Octavia.
It has a unique five-door liftback saloon layout, with a tailgate that can open like a regular saloon boot or fully up liftback style. Skoda calls it the TwinDoor. The rear legroom is simply superb, better than some mega bucks premium badged limos. Experience to believe.
Under the hood is a 1.8 TSI with 158 hp and 250 Nm, the latter produced between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm. 0-100 km/h is done in 8.5 seconds and combined consumption is 7.6 l/100 km with a seven-speed DSG box. The kit list mirrors the long one of the Octavia RS, with added leather.
The Octavia RS costs RM188,888, while the Superb is priced at RM199,999, OTR without insurance. The Fabia RS will be joining this duo soon. Skoda’s showroom is located within Bermaz Motor’s Mazda showroom in Glenmarie.

nice performance figures and spec
but the design….even uncles wont be impressed
yes, it’s design is not for our market. Even the 2006 model is more appeal and handsome for me…
They should infuse sporty spirit the grill of RS model to suit the sporty theme, and the tailpipe too, perhaps spice up with simple bodykit
superb is really made for people that value the car with price per size. which is the most case in malaysia and other emerging market, like city over jazz, elongated pug 20x ,fiesta,mazda2(or is it mazda 3), vios over vios.
it is cheaper than A4/c-class/3-series but has more interior space to offer than A6/e-class/5-series.
Wow,nicely priced!!I really like Skoda’s simplistic designs. And I’ve read an issue of TopGear last time about the legroom. It’s even better than a Bentley Continental if i’m not mistaken.or was it a LWB 7-er/S-klasse.But the design of the superb does looks quite luxurious~
the car has VW quality and dynamics, lower price tag, better than the Japs and Koreans by a far mile.
Seriously Malaysian buyers are too naive to ignore the brand, T and H is too boring even the UK motorists have to ignore them…
Good morning!
looks plain
i hate to sound nasty but looking at the models offered and the price, its a wonder how they survived after all these years (and what prompted China companies’ interests in Skoda anyway)
Octavia only sold more than 5 millions units worldwide, thats why they can survive, Malaysia is not their major market…
In fifth gear , they pitted a Superb with a Merc E-class, their conclusion was, if you don’t mind the badge and the slightly less refinement (compare to an E-class), you still get ALOT of car for the money… , in some areas it is better than the E-class even…
Wow. VW! TSI. This should be ok!
great news..i saw the skoda superb months ago at the mazda showroom federal highway..hope they can sell the fabia rs at less than rm100k..
I will congratulate them if they can sell 10 in a month
i will surprise if they can sell 10 in a month, thats a BMW3 price price..
price it between 165k-185k(max) for the superb, and it will sell well..but at the current price..it is difficult for them to attract customers..although the quality is excellent..it is a fairly new brand in malaysia and at the current price..consumers might not want to take the risk and go for a car like this when well established rivals are only slightly more expensive or even cheaper
you mean 10 in a year ? hehe
For once, maserati actually made sense……….
Outdated exterior design
Price beyond average car owner!
lol~ see the spec first la dude. furthermore skoda is using the same tech+dna with vw. rm188k for 2.0tsi sedan can be considered worth it. i’m also not goin to bu buy skoda..but i understand the price.
the RS pretty much GTI, doing quite well in europe, but malaysia well..
The new Camry looks better than either of these.
Camry compare to this? You got to be kidding. Camry has no way near superb in terms of space, interior, engine, gearbox, handling and so many more. I’ve tested this car, its very spacious. Although its big, but it feels like you are driving a small car.
But, one thing do disappointed me, it is the price, it is way overprice. Do Berjaya even know that this car is selling cheap in Europe???
I must go test drive this one day, do you know if Bermaz allow test drive.
Previously they allow people to test drive, I’m not sure whether they still allow. Anyway, you can call them and see of they allow.
I have to disagree with skoda’s design language too… Despite those figures thrown in the article.
Only in Malaysia Skoda is a premium brand.
I thought it is only T and H “the” premium brand in Bolehland???
nice price!!!i wan a sedan golf gti, go for octavia RS~~
These are great cars and for the money its good value. Those who are worried about resale value can look elsewhere.
Went to have a look of the two car models last year. They have been quiet and not really a new launching. Maybe we can call it a re-launch of the facelifted octavia in RS guise and the new superb.
i saw a superb at federal highway last week… that car is so frickin long!
With such high pricing and low brand image , definitely this car will not do well, people with such budget will either wait for the VW CKD Jetta or passat 1.8 which already launched in singapore .
In summary this car is neither here or there …..it doesn’t command a better image than T + H which it’s trying to steal some market share. And it’s look like a poor man VW.
Outside Malaysia, it IS a poor man’s VW. Not that VW are for the rich anyway. :-)
The Superb sits well above the Passat. In tests it is frequently compared against BMW 5 series, Audi A6 and Mercedes E class, and it can hold up well. It is extremely good value for money at 200k. The main competitor costs 370k. I mean, come on, how can you complain? Is brand image all that matters? If BMW would stick the BMW badge on a Viva and sell it at 80k, will it be very good value for money?
with that price, i might buy real VW…
goodluck ‘ tak bernas auto’
should lower the price if really want to sell this car.
Good luck!
ive been in superb last week…seriously unbelievable..that car has long base wheel and the back door quite long (like perdana exec)..
interior when sitting at the back quite spacious..for me this car very suitable for owner that have driver…the leather seat also superb…maybe you can go inside this car then judge rather than talk rubbish!
Superb is a superb value for money car, though not here in Malaysia unfortunately. RM199k just tad a bit high for the average camry toting unkers….
Audi took a long time to finally get into the mainstream and real recognition. Skoda who? From where? Even the country of origin is damn difficult to pronounce.
Might as well buy a VW
design looks a bit outdated
I still think Octavia RS is too pricey… 160K is what I might spend, else I just get a Golf and chip it, I still get 200 bhp at Ron 97
for the same price, i’ll be better off driving a 2nd hand beemer…
thanks but no thanks, Skoda….
its a nicely built car, but malaysians wont bite.
the yellow car behind look like potong sagak!
These two creatures are amazing with such pricing! Definitely worth it, hope Bermaz will enlarge Skoda 3S everywhere soon.
The Skoda Octavis RS looks to be much better than the Accord or Camry, especially power-wise.. A 2.0 litre engine producing close to 200hp? Must be turbocharged, i think. Awesome! Puts those Japanese cars to shame.. The Japs need to buck up! Especially engine wise..
VW/Skoda/Audi also have a 170 hp 1.4 ;) (They pulled it from the market though because of a slight lack of reliability, I have heard).
Do your website support mobile friendly version for android phones?
Danny …
Now how about the After Sales, Warranty and all that sort of thing ??
Good cars nonetheless …
Wheelbase only 2761mm?? This is flagship model?
I thought it is at least 2950mm before searching Wiki.
Such an underrated brand in Malaysia. Skoda actually makes very good cars and thanks to being under Volkswagen Group, great engines and build quality as well!
I would definitely buy Skodas if the resale value is not terrible in this country, unfortunately it is. :( Btw, they should bring in the awesome Skoda Yeti!!!
For the Octavia RS are just slightly RM20k cheaper than Golf GTi and less 10bhp? Hmm…
The Superb at RM200k quite a bargian car in their continental car segment compare to 2.0 S80 for RM260k or same 1.8TSi fitted Audi A4 for RM230k. But it doesn’t have a status make it among premium S80 or A4, its more to the class of Peugeot 407 or Citroen C5.
As the Polo 1.2TSi sold at RM110k and Golf 1.4TSi at RM150k, the Fabia 1.2TSi should sold below RM100k and 1.4TSi below RM120k.
But still Skoda is a ‘poor man’ car back in Europe. I believe only Jeremy Clarkson’s biggest fan would bought it lol
Skoda is doing pretty well in Europe. ;)
As the Superb is competing with 5 series and A6, i think the price is rather fair. The Octavia RS is a supersized Golf GTI, since it is bigger obviously it costs more. It competes with Camry, Accord, Mondeo, Passat.
looks is subjective..have you driven one ?? Put camry to shame.
What is xenons with AFS?
AFS stands for Adaptive Front-light System if I’m not mistaken. It basically means that the headlight actually turns for better illumination when you turn your steering upon corners especially in the mountains where roads are dark and twisty.
I would love to see them introduce various Combi models, Roomster and Yeti. Couple with VW’s best in class TSi and DSG, it will certainly offer good alternative to car buyers.
waaa, more expensive than mondeo 2.0 ecoboost.
The price still ok la, lower than that i’ve expected. But you need to test drive it with those Japs or Koreans to see if it worth that higher price
the superb is really a superb car…just watch all reviews….its actually considered quite cheap for all the stuff it packs…waiting for fabia rs….wondering how much the price
They are pricing this car out of the mainstream market ….. not gonna sell in great numbers.
For that price range, many other cars to choose from …. well it’s cheaper than VW Passat but Skoda is their lower range among the VW Group …. what more the Passat or Jetta will be assembled by DRB-Hicom …….
not many people will like this car, coz does not look attractive at all for that range of price…probably someone who want to be a distinguishable than others…then he/ she should buy this car.
Why a cheap car like this is so expensive in M’sia?
Where is the Superb a cheap car? It is on par with the E class. For half the price here. I’d call that the bargain of the century. Skoda is cheaper than their competitors, yes, but are they supposed to sell these at a loss? It is surprising that the price can even be this low. CBU some more, not CKD.
d cheaper version of Audi / VW
Octavia RS = Audi A4 RS4 ?
Superb = VW Pheaton ?
You get it all wrong, it is actually;
Audi is an expensive version of Skoda.
Skoda is such an underrated brand in Malaysia. Skoda actually makes good cars and thanks to Volkswagen’s ownership, good engines and build quality too!
I would definitely buy a Skoda if the resale value is not terrible in this country. Unfortunately it is :) All that is missing now from the lineup is the awesome Yeti :)
Btw, what is “xenons with AFS” means?
the headlamps move with direction of the steering wheel, turn left it move to the left and so on
isn’t this car suppossed to be whithin sonata price range? skoda la, skoda.. tada baca punya orang..
In China, Superb is only selling at RMB185k or RM85k…..in malaysia over price la
what to do? ask gomen remove tax or ckd it
What is not overpriced here?
No wonder, as it’s made in China. Imported it would cost as much as here.
Possible solution: Move to China…
the superb in china is selling at RMB185k or RM85k only….over price in malaysia
its not cheap. but look at it with an open heart. it has an impressive list of gadgets, it basically is a cheap passat/a4 with a very big legroom (like an s-class) . people would pay so much for a volkswagen but not for something else which i think looks much better and regal.
change that stupid grille and i might consider…
These two creatures are amazing with such great price! Hope Bermaz will enlarge Skoda 3S everywhere soon for all supporter buyers.
I think the price for the superb is fair, but I think it would be underpowered at 1.8T.
plus the superb was TopGear luxury car of the year in 2009!
i think the price is standard for skoda these days, even in europe its price higher than models from other brands
octavia design look like the old vw passatl.but superb is really superb.
octavia rs’ tail lamp look like saga blm tail lamp. i guess after proton has decided to alter the tail lamp for their next model saga fl, skoda took the design of old saga blm. =P
The design is like no identity, a bit merz a bit vw, then come with decent price! So skoda is like rojak without cendol, incomplete!
Being in the “rich man” price bracket in Malaysia, apart from Camry, Accord, Teana, Sonata, etc, there are many contenders out there with this price range including AP imported recond car like Alphard, Elgrand, Harrier, Estima, etc.
How can you compare saloon with mpv, suv…worst still 2nd hand? I hate to hear recond cars share the status of new cars.
Why compare MPV and SUVs with sedans? Different market segment.
BTW Alphards, Harriers etc are cheap and everyday cars in Japan. People here are paying RM200k for a 3 year old used car that is 3-4 times the used car price in Japan.
I talk about “price bracket” comparison, within this range, what kind of automoble they can get in the market, be it SUV, MPV, sedan car, etc, including recond imported by AP king selling at crappy over-price but make handsome profits.
what a joke!! the rich definitely will not buy cars like camry or accord.
they go for much better and luxurious cars like the s-class, 7 series, A8 etc
S-Class, BMW 7 Series, A8, Bently, Ferrari, etc is for “filthy rich” big boy toy enjoying their super lifestyle.
The super rich will still buy a Camry or Alfart for their wives to go to pasar.
To go to pasar, maybe buy the freak butt-less MyVi or tissue box on the wheel Saga.
with these prices, why bother to launch in Malaysia?
A rare beast
“superb”
very ugly name for a car.
Imagine VW were to JV with Proton, then our cars would be something like this a Perdana price. NIce!
Perhaps this is how a kia or hyundai should progress to look like in 2011 if its not for german designer assistance… hehehe.. the czech & korean seem to love ugliness, but the korean design have mostly moved on..
which is rather weird as skoda did get helps from the germans all this while… why insists in designing it this ‘unattractive’ when the rest is rather impressive?
What’s so unattractive about the Skodas? I usually prefer them over their brothers from VW, Skoda and Audi. Also keep in mind the Superb is a (luxury) executive saloon. Those cars aren’t meant to look flashy.
Elsewhere these cars are rather popular. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/driver_power_2011/265609/the_top_100.html
China Skoda Superb 1.8 tsi c/w 7 speed DSG sell for RMB 220K – 240K (RM 103K – 108K).
Sonata 2.0 auto RMB 142K (RM 66K)
Base on malaysia price Superb RM200K / RM 103K = 1.94 or 194%
Sonata RM136K / RM 65K = 2.09 or 209%
So judge by yr self who is making more margin ?
Saw an white color Skoda Octavia VRS on the road b4, look great & garang especially the front design, 200hp mouth watering.
look alike saga FL..
Why every car that was featured in Paultan must always compare with Proton design? Like as if Proton design was good and stylish.
He is mentally retard freak P1 blind supporter!
there are other car brands out there with
better performance
better bargain
better looking
better brand
better service/support
better 2nd resale value
than this skoda
Err you are missing the point, Skoda buyers are those who DONT care about
Image
Resale value
Good looks
Performance
They just want something unique, not simply something like neighbors car
Performance?
Octavis RS same engine as Golf GTi and Superb 1.8TSi same engine as Audi A4
This 2 model pack with great performance dude.
Please name one!
the front looks SO disconnected with its rear…..
front looks 2000’s but rear 80’s……
they should have shared rear parts from Audi(wished)…..
the spec is superb but d design not so superb at all, rear lamp looks like saga SE hahaha :D
this car needs a bit of skirt. But havent this car been lauched last year? What does a relaunch mean?
why is skoda selling at premium price here? why? isn’t this brand suppossed to sell at KIA or Hyundai prices?
i dont think it is overprice (for performance car like this), it’s CBU price, even Proton is more expensive than some of Japanese cars in Singapore.
When is the VW Jetta coming out? By right the price should be lower than this Skoda.
It’s suppose to be a poor man’s VW but very much overpriced.
if Skoda is locally assembled, it might cheaper than Toyota or Honda i guest…
As one of a Skoda owner, here some of my opinions:
– Skoda’s (in Malaysia) is CBU from Czech, and imported from Germany, so the price is standard for CBU units. Even CBU japanese cars also expensive in Malaysia.
– VW bring here is not assembled in Germany (some 3rd world country …) i think (correct me if i’m wrong),
– In China, of course Skoda is cheap, because it is locally assembled, and they produces in masses quantities.
– You can compare other makers that have same specs/performance with Octavia VRS, Honda Civic Type R is more expensive, Audi with same mechanicals (A4 2.0 turbo is RM100++ more …of course it’s a luxury brand..) , Volvo s40 2.0T CKD, more expansive, Only Mazda3 MPS is cheaper. Compare with BMW 325i thats is double the VRS price (almost same performance maaa…)
For me, Octavia is more for family car, you get huge boot (even more spaces than a current BMW 5 series… and it’s liftback style, you can put a 12kg washing machine inside..huhu….), if you are singles, go for Golf GTi.
in terms of quality you must go and see the real car, not just judge from the pictures, becoz it;s not a pretty car indeed, the finishing is better than CKD BMW (dont compare the luxury items and the extra2 gadgets indside, of course cannot match the BMW…)
How on earth can some people actually compare the Octavia to proton?? I mean.. proton??? come on lah.. it’s like comparing Ramly burger and a T.G.I.F burger.. no match at all.
And might i remind everyone, it’s not the looks that matter so much as the performance and the specifications..how many 2.0L cars can actually match almost 200hp? Not many, right? This car can eat the Accord and Camry and Teana for breakfast..
not only 200hp, but how many cars (even performance car) in Malaysia can reach more than 235kmh.. : )
http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=98
check out this review from down south…
it is indeed a stunning car…just “superb”
It have the same price range with Camry, Teana or Accord.
Skoda is for someone who:
1. Do not want to own a car which you can see tons of them in the street with same logo, same made, and same color…
2. Do not want to follow the mass market trend
2. Do not want to show off their money
3. Appreciates a good car with unbelievable conti car reliability
4. Know the engine, platform , suspension, gearbox, electronics, radio, aircond, and many more [except the body] is the same with audi and volkswagen [apparently many ppl here in this forum simply blind] – how to compared a korean engine with DSG/TSI
5. Enjoy driving the car for a long long years
6. Do not believe in 2nd hand value of car – If you want 2nd value, go buy house
7. Enjoy constantly being asked ” what car is this?”
8. Can teach rude roadhog ah beng driver a lesson once in a while
9. Like to here” WOW” when somebody take a ride of your car
10. Believe in buying a car is simply our choice. You buy yours and I buy mine. No need to condemn who is wrong and who is right.
Frankly, compared with Singapore, Skoda brand is spoilt by bad dealership in Malaysia. Bad in terms of their market strategy. Made worst by Malaysia NAP policy.
Are you a Skoda salesperson?
the car ‘s performance and credibility is no doubt….but i still think the price needs to be a little lower….if its priced around 160-165 for the octavia..it be quite a steal..as good as the skoda is…it is a budget brand in the vw group….
the beauty about VW is they are able to really make small but significant differences to thier cars despite sharing almost everything underneath….which is why the passat is not as sharp as an a4 front wheeler or the difference between the touareg and cayenne although they are basically the same car bolt for bolt.. or even the tt and sirocco..in VW world..what u pay is truly what u get……if the styling was sharper..this price would be a steal..but at the way it currently is..its still a tad too high….good effort nonetheless..more options for all of us i guess….
in 2006, Octavia FSI (N.A) priced at RM165k, then reduced to RM150k a year later, then to RM140k… no worry, we can wait for next two years and enjoy the discounts price.
Yes, there is a difference but that small difference made RM50,000 difference [passat vs audi]. Mainly the differences are due to shape and car weight as mentioned by the review and test drive in Europe For example the heavier Skoda VRS vs lighter Golf. But there is a steal if you own Volkswagen group cars especially the turbo engine version TSI . By small cash, your car becomes a monster. As what i have done.
I’ve put a dream to own one for octavia RS. Somehow it all goes off completely after the mechanics show me the true colors in repairing my fabia. Even Ah Beng can do better than them. They are not even repair but also damage my car with smile. Sighh… From that day, no more intention to add skoda in my list. bye-bye skoda.
That’s normal with Malaysian Car seller, stupid AP blow away all good distributor and left few stupid big player who don’t really know how to repair car.
very boring looks….
How long is the warranty period? I foresee it should be no less than 5 years – being the relatively unknown brand, what stop most Malaysian from buying this car is the maintenance. 5 years should be good enough.
Not even stated in their website so far…..they not promoting it well, even Skoda’s owner knew the launching from Paultan.com….mmmmm…
Why nobody is selling Seat in Msia? Seat are same category with Skoda.. or it might slight higher level than Skoda.
You have to see and drive for yourself to appreciate what Skoda is. If only the marketing and mechanics people do better job than Skoda would be a common seeing in our roads.
I have been in a Skoda Fabia as a passenger, doing 200 km/h on the Autobahn. It still felt relatively secure and refined (well, the road was friggin slippery! Snow everywhere…), and it’s not really bigger than a MyVi (ok, it was the station wagon version, so it’s bigger).
Hi all, am a Passat CC baseline owner, and after seeing the video and spec of the Skoda superb in their website, I believe the specs that comes with the Malaysia Superb is better than the top of the range VW Passat CC. The auto side parking is only available in the Toureg for VW Malaysia, yet Skoda put it in the Superb.
I was driving past one yesterday at the Pus highway, and the power was ok as it tried to keep uo with me, a gorgeous lady was behind the wheel, so I finally slowed down to take a closer look.
If you all do your research, Skoda in Europe has a very good reliability record, and is often mentioned when compared to VW and Seat (The Spanish). The built quality is also better than the Seat.
If only VW had taken over Proton, our Satria GTi would have te same as the golf and Octavia engine under the boot! And the perdana will be equivalent to the Superb or Passat instead of Mitsubishi Lancer rip-off.
