Mercedes B-Class image leaked ahead of Frankfurt debut

This is the first official image of the all new Mercedes-Benz B-Class, leaked ahead of its world debut at the Frankfurt show. Aspects that have been improved over the current “Compact Sports Tourer”, which was launched back in 2005, include space, refinement, economy and safety.

Autocar UK reports that at launch, the B-Class will be powered by all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged units, transversely mounted, one with 121 bhp and 200 Nm, and another packing 154 bhp and 250 Nm, with max torque in both available from just 1,250 rpm. There will be two 1.8 diesels as well – 107 bhp/256 Nm and 134 bhp/300 Nm.

In an earlier exclusive, the mag revealed that Mercedes has dropped the expensive sandwich construction of the current A and B-Class. So the B sits on a new FWD platform that will be shared with the next A-Class and the F800 compact saloon. The suspension consists of front McPherson struts and a four-link item for the rear.

Hybrid versions are planned.

Err Kia’s N/A 1.6L in the forte produces 124bhp while the Corolla Altis dual vvti 1.6 N/A produces 122bhp. why does mb need a turbo charger just to give a 1.6L 121bhp?

It should be in a might higher state of tune like 156bhp and 184 bhp of the bmw prince engines

it’s not the bhp. it’s the torque. the MB turbo charged engine produces 200Nm of torque. that makes a huuuuuuge difference in city driving. the 1.6L NA engine will never come close to that.

true, its about the torque, like the 308 turbo, its the 240NM that make the lion roar~~

In that case use a lower capacity engine like vw 1.2 or 1.4 tsi. More fuel economical

I dont know how you have come to compare a Kia engine vs a Merc engine.. Kia’s torque stands at 156nm vs Merc’s B-class is expected to come in at 200Nm.. also, has it ever come to you that the that the B class stands on a different target segment against the Kia Forte? Why need so much power for a car that is targeted for functionality and space vs a car which is targeted for first-time buyer..

PLUS the BMW’s 1.6 engine are all sloted into 2-4 door SEDAN (and in the case of Peuguot & Citroen, HATCHBACK).. this is a 5 sitter MPV (and if you actually read the whole article, there is also one in a 154 bhp with 250nm, more powerful then the kia)…

Sorry bro.. but do make relevant comparison ok?

you forget 1 thing~ a turbocharged engine increases torque( NOT horsepower) Plus~ MB’s new engine comes with 1.6L turbocharge engine in 2 different range.. Which is 121hp with 200Nm( for cheaper price ) and 154hp with 250 NM ( for higher spec )~ Pls read before comment~

This is really sad – MB showed some true innovation with the sandwich platform – maximum space efficiency, the ability to fit the Fuel-cell/hyddrogen tanks, and impressive crash worthiness.

And now that BMW is prepping a fwd entry-level model, there will really be very little difference between the offerings from Stuttgart and Munich, which is a real pity.

hmmmmmm……..can’t say i’m a fan of the new design. the front looks a little at odds with the bulbous body. i like the slightly raised bonnet – a little more muscular, but it looks out of place with the lower front design of the car.

i’d be interested to see the interior though. i remember seeing some concept pictures of it and it looks much improved.

what are the fuel consumption figures like?

Sad because the prototype model looked much sportier. Hope this is some sort of fake picture because even the older model looks better than this.

they kinda hit the wall with B class, dont they?
because the world dont quite understand what the B class is for
yes we know coupes are for divorced moms or playboy fathers who probably looking at girls half their age
the mpvs are owned mostly by families with the poorest contraceptive skills
sedan coupes are for guys with i-look-cool attitude

and the competition for B class is also not clear
is it the A3 audi? 1-series? or its own A class?
if the last is correct then obviously mercedes is thinking one leg is better than two thats why they are shooting at their own leg

i saw the drawings previously and i almost ejaculate
but now its getting erectile dysfunction

BeemerFreak~ I shall say sorry that Mercedes-Benz engine has more potential than the BMW’s … and pls do not be a BMW fan boy and judge other manufacturer that their production is weak~ Every vehicle manufacturer has their own specific technology that Proton & Perodua should learn~
