The all new Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck has made its global debut in Thailand, and sales will start on October 17. Thai customers get to choose from 26 combinations of Colorado models, powertrains, cabins, and ride heights. They include LS, LT and range-topping LTZ trim levels, single, extended and crew-cab bodies in high and low-stance, wide and narrow-body options, as well as two and four-wheel-drive configurations.
The new Colorado is the product of a five-year, $2 billion program developed across five continents for customers in more than 60 markets worldwide. The development of the new Colorado was led by a team of GM engineers from Brazil who lived in Thailand during the development period, learning the highly competitive truck market and observing how Thais use their trucks and the driving conditions.
The engines are from an all-new global family. Called Duramax, they are built at GM Thailand’s newly opened $200 million engine plant, are available in 2.8 and 2.5-litre forms. The 2.8 features a variable-geometry turbocharger and balance shaft, and is rated at 180 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The auto ‘box is a six-speeder. If you opt for the five-speed manual, max torque is 440 Nm.
The 2.5L engine is rated at 150 hp and 350 Nm. Both engines feature components designed to last for 240,000 km, says GM.
Design wise, the production car retains much of the looks previewed by the Colorado Show Truck from the 2011 Bangkok Motor Show. Highlights include a power dome in the hood, a raised cowl, higher-mounted dual projector headlamps and the Chevy dual-port grille with a “three-dimensional” grille mesh. Also, GM offers LED tail lamps on high-level models.
Inside, there’s of course the brand’s dual cockpit design and “Ice Blue” illumination. Chevrolet says that front and second-row shoulder room, headroom and seat height are segment-leading. It’s also claimed to be best in class in storage areas – the regular cab has 16 storage locations, while the extended cab has 19 and the crew cab has 30, plenty of lubang to stash away stuff. Auxiliary power, AUX plugs and USB connectivity are standard across the range.
The 2.5L model will be priced from 537,000 to 808,000 baht. Pricing of the 2.8L model will be announced later. GM is targeting a 10% share of the total pickup market in Thailand by 2013, when TIV is expected reach the one million mark, with pickups accounting for 40-45%.
The battleground is tough. Besides the ever popular Toyota Hilux Vigo Champ, challengers include recently launched relative Isuzu D-Max as well as the upcoming new Ford Ranger, which has started production already. Oh, and this time around, the Colorado WILL come to Malaysia!
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Isn’t this a rebadge Isuzu D’Max?
lol…mcm shilaker je soalan kau…sarcasm kot..
why thailand always get the best?… ini agak naza mau bawak masuk ke?
Why are they shy about disclosing the vehicle size. I am
refering to wheelbase,with, length etc.
looks cool… it will sell well in Borneo… come to malaysia pls…
“The 2.5L model will be priced from 537,000 to 808,000 baht.”
That’s around RM53K to RM80K price. Sadly Chevy here under AP King logo tax damn it the price is hijacked for sure!
To all Hailat owners what ya waiting for, start trade-in your underspec/overpriced Hailat lah!
Tax for truck in malaysia is only the sales tax of 10%. So its still affordable.
Malaysian government still stingy, remove tax from the trucks…
this is my choice, if I need to go for truck..cool
This colorado offered multiple model in thailand but how many of these would be bring in by Naza…2.5l/2.8l/sole ….
The 2.8l is pretty good performance as it is able to compete with Navara 2.5…
Another challenger for the Hilux, Triton
In term of look, ford ranger wins hands down..
In Malaysia at the moment, the Triton still holds the trophy…
nope,, Navara more handsome!
ford vs chevy? pergghh…
I mean the latest model —> http://paultan.org/2011/09/29/ford-to-buy-60-billion-baht-of-thai-made-parts-per-year/
Nice design! Will Naza be bringing this in?
Looks like the truck market is getting interesting again. How is Ford & Nissan going to respond. We know Toyota came up with one lame facelift and Mitsubishi dug the parts bin to come up with a limited edition. Come on guys, let’s see more engine options and higher specs in trucks. Anyone saw the interior of the “new” Hilux? Sad story le……
Next generation triton and navara is being developed together in a jv between nissan and mitsubishi. Much like ford/mazda and isuzu/chevrolet.
Ford already has the new ranger, just not launched here yet.
Hilux is just hilux.
Got volkswagen amarok also yum yum!
Nice, its cool to own one but only if you need it
u buy a truck but all are on normal road.. what the reason buying truck then.. .better buy lah lorry…. just adding co2 and congestion on road only just to bring a small thing around…. WASTING!!!!!
4WD diesel pickup trucks have definite road tax advantage in East Malaysia. So can’t blame people buying them just for tarmac road use only.
Do you know why 4WD diesel pickup trucks have definite road tax advantage in East Malaysia?Come and see by yourself how poor the roads condition here in sabah and sarawak.
agreed! they should come and see the kimanis – keningau route! these guys from the west will crap their pants!! i’d like to see them try the route in their ‘powerful’ myvis and protons hahaha!
we from the east have to look out for ourselves, cause they will never understand!
And sit more space in carpark. Similarly to mpv owner with 2 kids. Everybody follow trend.
Ya i’ve seen many incompetent drivers parking their pick up at the mall, it really pisses me off.
This kind of trucks are for the energetic adventurous people. It’s cheaper in price, it don’t pollute as much as petrol driven cars. It can carry loads which car cannot. Most of all you don’t need additional licence to drive it. And if you register under company’s your road tax will be lowered too.
truck ~ American English
lorry ~ UK English
so truck and lorry IS the same.! ;)
Available in 26 combinations? It will suck to be an indecisive Thai. :-(
Is this new Colorado come with petrol engine?
when is UMW going to wake up and give us the new engines?
When this Chevrolet Colorado come to Singapore?
General Motors had recently launched Holden’s HSV Maloo ute (car-based pickup) in Singapore this year, so we expect the new Colorado will come to Singapore with petrol engine, as diesel engined trucks are banned for private registeration there.
Little confused why the auto-box can handle a higher torque figure than manual..? normally it’s the other way around right?
Kamu semua ini pandai cakap saja. Ada duit kah mau beli?
this truck looks like those in amerika
Naza, here i come…
