Proton Inspira R3 – new hi-res image and more details

And we’re back with more details on the new Proton Inspira R3. We’ve managed to obtain one high resolution product marketing image, which seems to depict a different alloy wheel design compared to the pictures in the classifieds ad that we posted earlier. The blacked out grille that we saw on the previous set of photos is also not shown, so it could be that the earlier set of photos are from an earlier prototype.

The Proton Inspira R3 is only available in the 1.8 manual transmission variant, and is limited to 100 units. Basically anyone who buys an Inspira 1.8 manual for the OTR price (RM78,549 solid, RM78,999 metallic) will get an Inspira R3 with all the added R3 bits included (bodykit, 18-inch alloy wheels with tyres worth RM9,000), until the 100 units run out.

Booking opens now and ends on December 31, 2011, so you’ve got about two months to go grab your manual transmission Inspira R3. Registration and delivery starts in the second week of November. Colours available include white, silver, red and black, but we hear a majority of them are white.

Insipira suspension setting is original Mitsu… Lotus is not involved… Mitsu tak bagi Proton mod chasis or suspension

          • No, its not.
Proton pour in their Lotus Ride & Handling philosophy and know-how in Inspira’s suspension setup.
it is called Proton Ride & Handling and not Lotus anymore because right now, Proton have master the Lotus Ride & Handling and its time for Proton to use Proton Ride & Handling from now on.
If not, why would Proton go for 16″ wheel and not stick to Lancer GT’s OEM wheel?

korang ambil contoh je pada proton satria GTi & Waja, proton kata lotus handling tapi spare part semua mitsubishi. jangan tahu drive dan percaya announcement dari proton, kalau berbisnes orang kata mesti ada klentong sikit baru laku…inspira semua mitsubishi kecuali dashboard dan soundsystem saje yang tak nampak Lancer Fortis. bukan nak memburukkan buatan malaysia tak kira Ori Or imitation/rebagde, tapi jangan lah klentong. engine cover die guna cover yang pernah waja guna untuk engine renault 1.8….tak percaya pi tengok kat showroom…cakap pasal waja…hehehehe…waja sebenarnya guna chasis mitsubishi charisma yang juga digunakan pada EVO4….cuma tukar kulit dan ubah bentuk sikit luar dan dalam chasis tetap mitsubishi…cuba bayangkan anda design satu benda pastu seorang kawan nak pinjam tapi dia bayar pastu dia ubah sikit pastu dia claimed dia punye design…anda tak marah ke…ni banyak terjadi di malaysia…dari org kecik hingga org2 besar…fikir2kan…

      Totally agree.

Lets say that R3 is to Proton what M division is to BMW.

A BMW 3 series which looks like a M3, without the M3 tuning is branded 3 series sports/saloon performance. Putting an M3 badge on a car which does not have the engine performance of a real M3 is degrading to the BMW brand.

Maybe this should be called Inspira sports edition?

Why want to slap R3 on a car that only have cosmetic upgrades?

At least plonk in performance cams + performance ECU mapping and change the whole exhaust system then really can consider a R3…

Proton ir, please do not copy your younger sibling by just putting cosmetic changes and put fancy names to it…..

R3 name is getting cheap nowdays. Everything is R3.

No doubt Inspira is a worthy buying car, but it’s inappropriate to throw in R3 without performance increase.

Should next model with performance up call R3 Ralliart?

Well, logically supposed just Inspira 1.8M Sport LE 2011. Everyone can guess it is just to move 100 units of Inspira 1.8MT.

Wish list for real R3 will be 2.0MT with uprated suspension and exhaust systems (still no touch engine maaa…). Then put in real R3 front and rear bumpers rather than just stick-on kit to existing bumpers.

I don’t think this wish will push the price too high. No need turbo or change brake systems or too fancy interior upgrade. Reserve that for the REAL Inspira R3 Extreme Edition!!!!!

            2- LOW-PROFILE TYRE
*pernah x korang cuba try test cornering guna tayar 65, 55, 45, 40? haaa…. try dulu,.. baru taw nape tayar nipis ni sodap. kalo corner ngan tayar asal inspira (tayar 55), baru corner 60km/j dah rase cam nk tcabut tayar tuh. Kalo corner ngan tayar 40,.. ngeh ngeh.. 70-80 kat sharp corner pn sodap!

Agree. This totally dilute the R3 branding. In future, if Proton really does come up with the R3 tuned performance enhanced Inspira. What would they call it? The Real Inspira R3 Limited Edition?

At this rate that they are going, R3 will just be another piece of sticker on some sport car wanabe.

we already noticed that mitsu not allow Proton to touch the engine la and I believe that is the marketing strategy since 1.8 model sales lower than 2.0 according to proton sales person.

If you are in the market to buy a Vios or City, I recommend you to give the Inspira a try first. I don’t know about the rest, but I honestly think that the Inspira is an under appreciated model from Proton. You will enjoy this more than the other two I mentioned above.

With this, it is show that Proton can still sell a product with add up accessories worth RM9k with a same price with the normal product.

The remaining question is, why in the first place Proton not sell the product at less than RM9k price tag?

We should know that the Proton and Perodua is a bench marking price for car in local markets.

What about just straight rename this version to Proton Inspired by R3? Don’t even put Inspira there, name will be too long-winded.

Mana tau in future P1 plan Inspira R3 Extreme Edition? Hahahah!!!!! Die also they won’t copy P2……

But I think they are in the midst of making the real R3 tuned to catch potential EVO dreamers alike with a much tamer price.

Most of the time i feel proud of proton. Even driving an Inspira would impress yourself, but it is not naturally a Proton made. That’s why they put Proton Ride and Handling instead of Lotus Ride and Handling like Gen2, Persona, Satria, Saga and Waja.

I wish Proton could develop faster. World is now even more challenging than before. We Malaysian are always being looked down by the world. It is now to create our own image. Creating our own core competencies would give a bonus point, not just for the country, but for our today’s history.

And I do agree with some people above. R3 is touched by the genius drifter (which means performance, handling and practicality should be upgraded also).

test drove Saga recently & it’s rubbish. this inspira looks good but it’s not proton after all, so proton hasn’t improved to a level which can be proud of. only can produce cheap car to compete with P2 to be jaguh kampong. most pathetic malaysian choose it because they have no better choice for affordable car

So, rather than usual discount, they have come out with a little creative yet wonderful offer for customer to have. Even discount wont go for RM 9000 but this R3 spec with RM9k free stuff, why not? The $9000 giveaway freekit probably cost Proton $18000 to buy from vendor, and probably cost the vendor $2000 to made and supply the shitty overprice parts to Proton.

Cost of upgrading bodykit is taken from A&P budget.

Fool the public be telling them powerwindow comes with lifetime warranty but comes with a ridicules string attach after we read the fine prints.

what kind of ridiculous ‘string’ attached to PW warranty program? from your previous post, your shitty brain is the one which created the shit list of rules which never mentioned or printed in the warranty, even in the finest print. i would suggest u to drink clorox, vanish, fabuluso and dettol to clean-up your brain dude.

Yup.. Kira macam promotion untuk r3 department gak la neh.. Nice move.. Pasni mesti ramai yg buat macam ni dan dari ramai2 tu dalam 20 percent mungkin akan hantar kepeda r3 department untuk upgrade pakej original… So win, win situation… 100 customer get this rm9k pakej for free and what they need to do just drive it and it already help proton to cover those rm900k cost… No need to do promotion at paper and tv.. just let the customer do it for them… Proton boleh je kalau nak design cantek2… Ramai kedai aksesori buat bodykit tapi memang r3 punya gak paling cantek dan ngam dengan inspira.. Tu x kira lagi spoiler yg betul2 function bukan sekadar aksesiri ja tu.. Macam spoiler gen 2 la.. Orang cakap proton x kreatif tapi diorang x tau spoiler tu betul2 function.. buakan macam sesetengah spoiler kat kedai tu.. nampak cantek tapi function ka?

neo R3= pun limited number(tak ingat jumlahnya)

    wheres your support???

ok Fine.. some say..the R3 label shouldn’t be there..

but do u guys think designing an aero kit or designing rims..ect ? (the additional slap on kits on the R3 inspira) does not need engineers? so we take it as the team from R3 makes the design… so they should at least have the credit as well?

this is better then those drivers who are driving waja / wira / inspira slapping EVO – wannabe body kits… what a shame…

I had the chance to ‘pinjam’ one of my office staff’s Inspira 1.8 MT to bring it out for a spin and to my surprise, it’s one of the better produced/rebadged/copied (or whatever else you’d wanna call it) car Proton has to date. Acceleration was smooth, cockpit was quite silent. Good air conditioning. So yeah, need to really feel how a car behaves ? DRIVE THEM !!

Even Civic 1.8 n Toyota 1.8 pun pick Up tak leh lawan Inspira Mivec 1.8 ni. Pakai dulu baru tau. Puas hati. Nak Godam Ecu buang Cut OFF pun boleh. Banyak kedai boleh Buat. Not all mind you. I owned an E320 (W211) from mid 2008 till early 2011 and that car was a mess. Park lights was not working, absorbers/suspensions made annoying squeaky sounds after driving for about 5 – 8 months, left rear taillights was a mini aquarium, front passenger power window needed a few presses just to wind it up and yeah, the funniest was once my dad drove the car out and called me saying he’s driving down on a straight road but on the screen, the gear was still in PARK !!! But then again, I wouldn’t say ALL Mercs sucks ball right, It happened that I was the unlucky one to get a crappy product. But all is well when I get them fixed and SOLD IT !!! I drive the Inspira before and yes, I have to admit, Proton readopting the Mitsu-ness, can never go wrong.

u know, i heard many fake stories about other manufacture from people who turn out to be proton supporter.

but you’re the winner, next time create stories about rolls royce or bentley. hell yeah

U know, I also heard alot of stories regarding those who are out to put other’s down. Instead of contributing opinions and experience on the topic, they just love to shoot other’s with better knowledge and experience down because they themselves can’t seem to benefit from it. Haters like you shouldn’t even be allowed to comment because it’ll only make you look stupid.

It amazing to see that people think that Proton is better than Mercedes.

I guest some people think burger think is better than wagyu steak!!!

there are pros n cons.. how many time can you afford to eat wagyu steak? 1 time sedap but long time wallet tak sedap, burger can eat everyday also sedap & still have change to buy other things.. hahaha

But to some people, it is wrong to make an example because to them it would mean comparing a German marque to Proton. Sometimes I wonder what were these people really thinking when they want to bombard someone with their so-called ‘intelligence’. Haha. But it’s okay. Life goes on. Haters will definitely be left faaaaar behind.

Pasal kualiti. Sebelum ni sy pakai Wira Ab 1.5 Uk Spech. Beli second je. 6 tahun pakai baru tolak. Kualiti ok je. Takde major problem pun. At list harga mcm tu pun ok la.

  • Proton are you listening?
You take la mitsubishi old platform like evo7 body that type and fight la, you take inspira and you call it local car you can”t even fight kia forte price and quality. you take evo7 body put 4G18 sure can undercut a lot of cars and ppl will be happy to buy since it is low maintenance and ppl are familiar with the mechanicals.

More ppl will choose this over vios/city la if same price!

    • Also, if stupid looking Avanza/fortuner/unser can find buyers, dont see why Evo7 looking protons can’t sell!

SOHC does not mean old tech. In my opinion, they use SOHC to safe FC. People today prefer low FC and better pickup for city driving, top end would be 2nd story. By the way I personally prefer DOHC becuase I like top end speed. Acutally SOHC and DOHC have it’s own strength, depending on the drivers requirement.

taking an old platform only lead to no improvement ==

      • the whole idea is to make money, improvement or not. If you would say, all cars now are going backwards, dont say improvement.

        Comparing some 1.6L engines:
        a 1990 honda crx non VTEC= 130hp
        1990 honda crx VTEC= 160hp
        2011 Kia forte = 125hp.
Proton CAMPRO with CPS = 125hp

        How about 2.0L turbo engines:
        1989 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 2.0 turbo = 240hp
        2010 VW Golf GTI Mk6 = 210hp

See this is terbalik of improvement after money spent for R&D.
So what harm is good proven car at low price?

          Bro,

Correct me if I am wrong. Every bussiness sure wanna make profit but I hope not over board. Higher horse power not necessary faster in overall. We need to consider torque, fc, reliability and also comfort.

Example: I have a wira and transplant an Evo 3 engine with a mod, my hp could go up to 500HP versus VW Golf GTI Mk6 210hp. Yes my Evo 3 win Golf, so what? other things lose like no body’s business. Worst of all not reliable and very high fc. Normal road driver don’t need high HP but a peace of mind…

  • Proton saga 1990 Magma 8V, no major overhaul yet, just top overhaul (since radiator leak), change absorber, mounting, driveshaft twice, radiator once, aircond compressor once, all rubber parts changed. 21 years and still running. Never breakdown on highway suddenly, never let me down. Has travel all Peninsular region, odometer is 458,098 km.

Conclusion: Proton Saga will never let you down.

    Hello / Askm,

U work experience in automotive industry B4 ? As customer we want the best. . Inspira consider contract assembly same as other brand assembly in Malaysia such perodua, Nissan , mazda- Inokom etc.
I ws informed some problem s inherit from lancer mitsubishi car, Eon After sales has good experience for lancer. Tanya laaa.. Go to EON Main After sales Branch.
this Ist time proton involve in Assembly mid- performance car. SYABAS.
i hope proton can resolved component and fitting / matching and reliability problem in future. Use DFMEA approach wisely Thoroughly.
If fine tune specification becareful on suspension,, transmission, etc system. Staff proton must KOREK maklumat Habis2 from OEM design tuuu.. or …….

last month aku jual inspira aku 2.0 auto tu…
bengang dgn enjin asyik jerking… power window rosak.. handling kureng sikit.. xseperti yg di ceritakan.. skang aku own a mazda 6..
bkn nak kata proton ni xbagus.. cuma mereka perlu lebihkan kualiti dari berjimat.. harge kereta sama mcm harge kereta berkualiti, tp part2 yg digunakan kureng.. if proton gune part2 yg berkualiti, saya yakin proton akan mendapat kepercayaan rakyat malaysia kembali.. jadi la seperti Produa yang sentiasa memperbaharui teknologi merekA
