Perodua had a media briefing in KL this morning, revealing its 2011 performance and targets for this year. In a difficult year for the auto industry, the brand once again became the top selling marque in Malaysia, shifting about 180,000 vehicles in 2011. Retaining this title means that Perodua has been top of the tree for six consecutive years now.
The 180k figure is slightly down from the record breaking 188,600 vehicles sold in 2010, but then the total industry volume (TIV) also fell from from 605,156 to just below 600k units. Perodua’s market share also saw a slight decline from 2010’s 31.2% to 30%.
Exports grew from 4,000 units in 2010 to 8,000 units last year. Perodua revealed that Sri Lanka is its top export market now, taking over from UK. Bosses say that once overall cost is further lowered, exports will be ramped up, with a target of 20,000 units by 2015, or about 10% of total output. For 2012, they plan to export 10,000 cars.
Of the 180k local total, Perodua sold 81,904 units of the Myvi, which retains its title as Malaysia’s best selling car, 60,675 units of the smaller Viva, and 37,402 units of the Alza, which is the biggest car it sells.
2011 saw the introduction of the new Myvi in June, before Perodua wheeled out the “Lagi Power” 1.5-litre Myvi SE and Extreme in September. The Myvi is also exported CBU to Indonesia as a Daihatsu Sirion, launched at IIMS in July.
It wasn’t an easy year to launch such a big model, with the launch coming so soon after the triple disaster (earthquake, tsunami, nuclear) that hit Japan, but the company pulled through (Perodua MD Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh singled out partner Daihatsu for their efforts) and reclaimed lost ground with the popular new Myvi.
Among other obstacles they faced were the amended hire purchase act that came into effect mid 2011, the weak global economy, a strengthening Japanese yen and the recent Thai floods, although effects from the latter was minor compared to the Japanese disaster.
Looking ahead, Perodua sees 2012 as cautiously positive. Datuk Aminar revealed the target of a 4% sales increase to 188,000 units on the back of network growth and “aggressive promotions” throughout the year. Besides new competitors, Perodua sees inflationary pressures, slower growth and Bank Negara’s credit tightening measures (Malaysia’s household debt levels are very high) as challenges.
At the event, Perodua also announced a new flagship 3S Centre to be located in Section 19, Petaling Jaya. This RM30 to 40 million facility will be the model for future sales and service centres in Malaysia and abroad. It will also be the central region’s hub in the company’s new “decentralization” approach. Construction will start in March or April and it’s expected to start operations in 2013.

and BN/UMNO supporters drive Proton…whats your point?
what a stupid statement….at least p2 is the true Malaysian made car…inside myvi there are lots of toyolta parts…only bumpers and badgeds made in Malaysian…can not be considered as national car-maker but national car re-badger…
it’s not toyota parts, it’s toyota look alike parts lol
So perodua non bn/umno comp??? Haha muhidin yasin must be laughing at u
Who says Peyno drives a Saga? He drives a Protong Juara Evolution PetiAis MarkIII Mugen Power!!!
Critic A, sampai mcm tu sekali? ish3…
above all even p1+p2 not able to capture 70-80% market share like korea n japan did in their own country…
U dunno meh, we all very “not patriotic ma”
I dunno what so proud about it?! they makes the bad cars but only bad cars that most M’sian people can afford it…who’s dun want to own Japanese or European cars?!maybe few but actually so many people can afford them IF without higher TAX !…try to increase the price and fight with the City,Vios,,Jazz,Yaris,Suzuki and Polo…Myvi = My bye bye !
normally this kind of ppl think.. they are changing from national car to Japanese car…
prrrtfhhh.. pity
Regular convert the Evo head or Passo…look at the butt and u know that’s fake actually that’s pretty funny lolx
Wah.. P1 hardcore supporter on the move!!!
Hei Peyno, why i didnt saw u commented when P1 launched the P. Inspira?!? I tot a lot of ppl also throw away the P1 logo & bumpers and put mitsu logo & bumpers on it still thinking it is also Japanese DNA.. Even Evo10 conversion already done by a few… :P
Uggghh…! the look of the power point presentation is terrible! shame on the management… go study how the late great Steve Jobs does a keynote presentation.
Myvi 1.5 price ranges from RM50-60k, which is about USD$15-20k. That’s Honda Jazz (Honda Fit in US) price range, from the USD$15k Fit to the $20k Fit Sport with Navigation, all come with 6 airbags and traction control as standard. It is unheard of in Malaysia for a new car in the RM50k price range to come with safety features like 6 airbags and traction control.
Wake up!
its malaysia. not US.
currency , tax malaysia 200%. If new passo sold here, sure it become rush VS nautica. and lancer VS inspira
Perodua success nothing genius: simply offer practical, fuel-efficient and value-for-money products. Nothing fancy, crazy, delusional crap (just like Protongkat).
In fact the more fancy, crazy, delusional crap it will make car buyer feeling sick, hate and tired of it (just like Protongkat).
Never insult the intelligence of car buyers. Never ever sell fancy, crazy, delusional crap (just like Protongkat). They know the best choice will either be Perodua or Toyota.
“To buy Perodua is to kill Protongkat!”
the only reason P2 doing well cause we have no other choice. Somemore, nightmare from p1 quality. Dont forget fancy Boon and Passo die hot fans(abviously you can see this kind of modification extremely on our roads).Thats it…..the rest, p2 only a car good enough to drive from point A to point B…..i’m not p1 fanboy nor P2 hater…but totally depressed how p1 enhance their product…p2 for me good for a starter car and a family keen to have second car which is the smaller size…..
Say, if Perodua can produce car with boot = proton FINISH completely
TQ
say if other P3 national car rebadge Honda Jazz= perodua DIE and Daihatsu say bye2 and move to Indonesia
P3 PeYno?Perodua die and Proton is already decomposed.
Out of 180K plus sold…only 8,000 was exported. If Malaysian stop buying their cars, they gonna die…. I think the “protection” policy from the gov wont be scrap in the years ahead.
this is what we called the REAL JAGUH KAMPUNG.. only can sell at kampung bolehland
I bought one that year and I am very happy with it!
You have to be happy with it…otherwise you will be taking bus…I can understand, it’s either Myvi or,bus..
Only because most Malaysian don’t have much of a choice. Sad really.
thats why P1 sold..
Easy business model. Get an international car company model & change its badge. Then pay huge royalty for every single car sold in Malaysia. Not just 1 model, but ALL the models.
Easy business model.
sold so many myvi but cannot even hire a professional to do the presentation~ power point slide look so damn cheap man!! all the money masuk poket ady~ i’m so “happy” for u myvi owner~ lagi best, lagi power, lagi buruk power point presentation!!
have nothing to comment?blame their powerpoint, kah!kah!kah!
They should focus more on quality than numbers. I have bought a new 1.5 myvi along with my few friends. All the cars have engine knocking and the interior is squeaking everywhere. Big disappointment in this brand. I had past 2 perodua’s the kancil and kelisa and it was all good.
Sum it all, Perodua is making so much money that they should cut the ties with Daihatsu/Toyota and produce their very own car! Grow up!!!
From a business point of view, why break the unbroken?
They should bring put better quality material into the cars.
yeah and Proton car is so good, why need a tongkat…tax payers money.
Another bodoh Proton owner.
If no tongkat perodua also cannot con malaysian
I wonder what is there to shout about… the only reason they are doing well its because their cars are cheaper with less tax compared to other competitors. So its so obvious they will sell more cars than others makes.
Wrong! P1 is cheaper (comparing same segment), why they cant sell better than p2? why?
coz most p2 buyers are ah soo and japs wannabe who can’t afford real JDM car..
nothing special la… if proton rebadge honda jazz.. simply can be no.1 also laa
aunty beli, uncle beli, fresh grad beli, grandpa and grandma beli, working adult beli. reason? because all malaysian think this is toyota/daihatsu.
I bought it not because of Toyota, it is because of car quality, spare part price and service.
quality? hmmm which part? i owned myvi before. except the engine all other parts are crappy. they cant even fix the crappy disk vibration. price??? which part cheap? how come some of my ae101 parts from japan are same price and even cheaper than so call local affortable car? wait till you ride other then you will know which car gives you quality rides!
Whatever
Positive advise to Proton: Put more effort.
What makes P2 attractive is
1. Good service support
2. good marketing
3. Nice design – appeal to the 20s~40s y.o buyer…
4. Quality perception
quality perception nothing to do w perodua.. just hide behind TOYOTA butts n japanese brand.. nothing special formula la easy as ABC..prrrtfhh
when I read the title….I thought Perodua car new model with improved performance….
like increase hp, top speed, drivability, etc
then, after reading properly, its just sales performance onl;y la….pffftt…..
meh…thats why i saw many myvi on the road till i got bored…..zzzz
Please be gentle on Proton. If the quality & perception are so bad how come they are still no 2? All Malaysians should abandon Proton and buy Perodua cars but many don’t do that.
Perodua will not stay no 1 for good. They should be humble and learn a lesson from Alex Ferguson.
yaa..yaa…u already got your myvi rite sissy?
BTW, Perodua and Proton have a same vendors on some of their part (interior mostly)..so, can u say that quality are way different???
I think, your mind were already flood with ‘Japanese mindset’..that’s why u think Japanese product is always good….orthodox… korean are more accentuate nowadays though…
P2 can enjoy their success while their can…P1 will rise again soon…P3-21A and P3-22A will be the catalyst……followed by GSC, 2014 Saga R, 2014 Exora R and most anticipated the Perdana R…….i think 2015 Myvi Sedan will not be any problem for P1 rising again…
Proton rise again? In next life? Kahkahkah.
When was ever Proton top….? If Proton was in open market, close shop day 1.
Isfahan… This is topic about perodua… R u myvito sissy car owner… If so.. Then my formula is correct… Normally only perodua owner n salesmsn kutuk proton lelebih.. Coz they are thinking that petodua= jepun car not national car.. Prffthhh pity u ah beng cant afford real japs car
Perodua cars are for pussyy….bad handling, boring engine sound…boring engine starter sound… Perodua is a girls car…mmm the no of girls graduated is more than men..so they would go for myvi..and there is a lot of pussy guy, sissy guy go for myvi..annoy the bad handling tht makes Perodua sells more than Proton…well…
agree with u bro…
Perodua’s big Boss Daihatsu knows.. Indonesia will be a good market for compact car and Hub for ASEAN… after daihatsu say bye bye to perodua.. then we can see our “real” local talent make a car.. so called perodua KEDIDI…prrrtrfhhh
lots of comment from P1 Losers Fan Club…a car company with no real future nor design….Lotus to be sold. Dream on.
And this comment from p2 fan who cant afford real jdm and they belieive that they are driving a jepun car.. Prrfthhhh
i tot peyno is P2 fanboy? long time no see mr Peynuss..oppss..peyno.
anyway myvi suck….honda jazz better…kalau lah jazz murah say bye2 to myvi..
Suzuki Wagon R & Honda Fit the real JDM…laku di japan..myvi? LOL
Good quality perception?? better u ask the P2 engineer how much they downgrade the MyVI regards to her brother PASSO/BOOn at japan? or better find PASSO/BOON door panel from halfcut, then compare to the MYVI door.. lot’s of diff bro…
agreed..hope P2 rebadge Daihatsu Materia & Kia bring the Kia Soul lah…i love boxy…
When Perodua started operation in 1994, they started with a very humble Kancil model targeted for low-income groups, university students and first-car buyers. Even though the Kancil was small, it was still a decent car that could sit 4 adults and got radio, aircond and front power windows at a very low price tag. It could be dubbed as “kereta rakyat” for those who could not afford to buy a Proton Saga Iswara. At that time, Perodua did make cars to be accessible for low-income groups. Then, slowly they expanded their model line-up with the introduction of Rusa, Kembara, Kenari and Kelisa, which was originally intended to replace the Kancil but in the end being sold alongside due to huge demand.
Mahaleel’s Proton quality scandal in 2005 became a leaping stone for Perodua after they launched the Myvi, the first larger-displacement supermini by Perodua. And it sold like hot cakes especially among those who wanted to take revenge towards Proton for its shitty quality at that time, and that was the turning point when Perodua finally surpassed Proton as the most popular car brand. However, Perodua became so sombong for that success; they kept recycling old models with tons of different tags like Myvi SE, Limited Edition etc. And Perodua cars became more and more overpriced such as the Viva which was supposed to replace both Kancil and Kelisa. They even made a suicidal model named Nautica which looked like Toyota Rush but a bit shorter and being sold with the price tag equivalent to two Perodua Kembaras because it was actually a made-in-Japan CBU unit but only with a Perodua badge.
To conclude, kiblat Perodua sekarang dah jauh lari. Back then, they used to build cars people first, but no more now. Just compare a Kancil and the Viva “kosong” 660BX and you’ll find a huge difference on how much money being burnt away by buying a piece of shit with no radio, paut steering, paut windows, ro rear wiper, and yet the price is even damn more expensive than Kancil. In the end, there’s nothing that should be proud about for Perodua.
Shitty presentation material…like when I was in form 3…who did prepare this presentation need to be re-taught. Disgrace to professionalism.
