Audi TT RS Plus: 5-cylinder turbo with more power!

Audi TT RS Plus: 5-cylinder turbo with more power!

Audi has added a new model to the TT range – the Audi TT RS plus, available in both roadster and coupe bodies. The plus in the model name denotes the extra 20 horsepower and 15Nm of torque the RS plus has over the normal RS, which results in 360 horsepower and 465Nm of torque from the car’s 2.5 liter 5-cylinder TFSI engine.

As a result, the TT RS plus Coupe can do the 100km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds with the 7-speed DSG box – the Roadster does the same in 4.2 seconds. With a 6-speed manual, the TT RS plus Coupe does 4.3 seconds and the Roadster – 4.4 seconds. About a third of a second better than the non-plus TT RS 6-speed manual numbers – 4.6 seconds for the Coupe and 4.7 seconds for the droptop.

The Audi TT RS plus is fitted with 19-inch cast wheels of five-arm “Rotor” design; they are painted black with contrasting red rim flanges. The wheels are fitted with 255/35 tires. A large, fixed rear wing increases downforce at the back of the car. The Singleframe radiator grille also sets the Audi TT RS plus apart visually: Its diamond-pattern mesh is in highly polished anthracite, its trim frame has a matt aluminum-look finish.

The housings of the exterior mirrors are made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The dual-branch sport exhaust system has black oval tailpipe trims. A sound flap further intensifies the sound of the engine. The Carbon design package gives the engine compartment a more exclusive look. The knob on the gear or selector lever features an aluminum-look trim ring and a TT RS plus badge.

I would always prefer a straight 6 or V6 rather than an odd 5 cylinder engine.

    • Yes, engines with odd numbers of cylinders (3,5,7) are mostly used in (marine) 2T engines. An i.e. 3cyl. 2T engine behaves like an 6cyl. four stroke engine, it fires every 120 degree.

An 5cyl. four stroke engine will never run as smooth as an inline 6. But I guess there’s not enough space for a VR6 in the TT?

another of those DSG stuff? this is by far the best high performance car audi makes. but then, step into an ur-quattro or the last two RS4’s and compare them to the S5, RS5, RS6 of today….the driver involvement feel is just gone. really hoping the next RS4 can capture the magic again.

I tested my buddy’s pre TTRS Plus while in England for a business trip just about 2 months ago.Even in stock form which i pelted the living daylights out of it at Silverstone,it goes like stink. This was before he sent it to MTM (Motoren Teknik Mayer) in Germany for a 550bhp on wheel power upgrade,it’s a bombproof motor and absolutely excellent build quality Audi is renowned for.

The best part of that of that visit is i procured an original, mint condition, properly tuned original Audi Quattro 2.2 5 Cylinder Turbo 4WD,circa 1987 model, the very last England bound units.

I spent quite a bit of dosh on that ride(worth every pence)and i’m absolutely smitten with it.In my opinion, you still can beat the magic of the original. The pervious owner was a bit of hard arse for me to persuade him to sell it to me.It has close to 500bhp on wheel, all the necessary spares i would need and it’s the only one in Malaysia i was told. They certainly don’t make them like they used to.It goes like the absolute clappers and it still holds it’s pedigree well and good against even the most modern hardware. What a ride!!

    Cheers.
