Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has announced that its order books are now open for the soon to be launched Triton LITE Turbo. Launched in 2008 here, the LITE is the workhorse of the Triton range, and the most affordable one in the family. As the new name suggests, the LITE will now have turbo power.
The new engine is based on the previous 2.5L eight-valve SOHC IDI diesel engine, but with a turbocharger bolted on. It now makes 89 PS and 196 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, an improvement over the old 75 PS and 149 Nm at 2,500 rpm. That’s a substantial 14 PS and 47 Nm more, and max torque is also made 500 rpm lower.
This should translate to better acceleration and lugging power, things the LITE can do with. Like before, the Triton Lite is only available as a 4X2 and with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Other new things include a “stylish designed ‘sedan’ look” (we have no idea either!), new design 15-inch alloys, chrome finished door handles and side mirrors, plus LITE Turbo stickers for the workhorse. Inside, the new LITE Turbo adds on a dual-tone colour scheme and a new single-DIN head unit with AUX-in jack.
Available in Cool Silver Metallic or White Solid, the Thai-made Triton LITE Turbo is priced at RM64,053.80 on-the-road without insurance. This is around RM1,600 costlier than the non-turbo LITE, which is fair. Buyers will get two years free maintenance on top of the three-year/100,000 km warranty.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Will the height be changed? Why can’t it be like the D-Max 4×2? Looks awesome. The Lite looks like a pasar malam lorry
actually, low riders look quite cool with big chrome wheels. check out the low riders in thailand. very nice indeed. good that they placed the turbo in there. now they need to make it a bit more car-like inside; tachometer and other car like stuff.
This Lite is targeted at small business transportation needs and to a certain extent ppl who wants a tough n safe vehicle at low cost….it makes sense since a lower rear bed means easy n accessible transportation and moving goods around ie pasar malam, hawker or kedai runcit etc…with normal height of pickups, you’ll have problems reaching stuff after halfway into the bed…More power now may also translate to a better drive and maybe fuel consumption but not sure coz there was no mention abt consumption vs latter without turbo…my guess is turbo would be more efficient and thus translates to better fuel consumption too….
1600 for factory turbo is good… Any warranty to 100,000km….C
Huhuh, got Turbo oledi. Can use it as Drift pickup.. Yeah!!!!
finally its turbocharged?errr,,,,diesel engine can add supercharger or not anyone know?
“stylish designed ‘sedan’ look” ???
Easily win the most ugly pick-up, worst than China models.
worse*
89PS and 196Nm seems a bit on the low side for a modern 2.5l turbodiesel…
yup. i would agree with you. should be at least on par with the 4×4 models or if they want to avoid the products clashing in the market, just a smidgen lower but it seems awfully low for a modern turbo pick-up.
guys, its a work horse… Mitsu can tune the motor for more oomph but at the expense of reliability. besides this motor is just a turbo-ed version of the SOHC, not like the DOHC motor in the other Triton. so here the main goal was to beef up the torque (a bit), bring the peak torque earlier-just nice for traders lugging heavy trade stuff.
This Triton is not fuel saving machine…it whacked me around 25 liters for 240KM for an upcountry drive!!! is there something with the fuel system?
i like triton but the prices 4 lite is not suitable bcoz too expensive than it look..
The Lite looks like a pasar malam lorry. No la..this triton lite better than malaysian car.Agree!!!
