What’s your Perodua story? Perodua wants to know

What’s your Perodua story? Perodua wants to know

Own a Perodua? Have a memorable tale to tell about it? Well, Perodua wants to hear from you about your Perodua experiences, and with over two million Peroduas on the road, there surely has to be a great many stories waiting to be told.

The company has kicked off an initiative called What’s your Perodua story?, essentially a means to connect with its drivers and hear from them. In a nutshell, Perodua is looking to understand what matters to owners, and is hoping to find out what their needs and wants are.

What’s your Perodua story? Perodua wants to know

So, it could well be a story about your car and the journey you’ve had together, or maybe a suggestion on how the company can further improve its cars or services. The point is, the company wants to hear what you, the Perodua owner, has to say.

The company is hoping to put the stories from the campaign to good use; bouquets will undoubtedly be appreciated and savoured, while suggestions will provide an avenue for change and improvement.

Perodua’s MD Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh will be closely involved with the campaign, and says that he’s keenly anticipating what owners have to say – as he puts it, who else better is there to learn from than the people who drive the cars?

You can share your Perodua story by clicking here.

You meant Daihatsu, right? I see what you did there, Perodua…

I came back from overseas in 2005, decided to buy a car.. After looking around for a while, decided to buy a Perodua Kembara Auto version which looks cool and nice then..

After buying it, the car was very unstable at cornering, very uncomfortable and drinks Petrol like a camel! The first time taking it to the highway, before heading to the Highway, I pumped full tank.. After traveling for 250KM, I realised that the fuel indicator was low for quite so time, I decided to drive on.. On realising that Perodua Kembara doesn’t come with a low indicator .. I panicked, and decided to reduced my speed and exit the next exit just to get it top up..

After that experience, I decided to sell the car after using it for 6 months.. I lost quite a bit of $$$.. But that was my experience driving a Perodua.. That was my first and last local “Malaysian” made car…

Good heavens! Have they no shame? An ex-Perodua owner myself, now should I tell the truth or be a hypocrite and lie to win that prize? You know what they do to hypocrites? Even the world’s greatest car companies like BMW does not do this. Have Perodua ever heard of unsolicited mail? That means owners who write in without being invited to say how much they like their product.

well, my experience, driving 1999 kancil from the 1st time i got license till now..
just that its 660cc & fuel consumption will double when on A/C. i guess p2 better off producing low power high fc for viva & pull down the 850 price closer to the current 660, lol..

last time my girl friend bough a very basic kelisa (white color, bumper grey plastic, no power staring, no power window, no cd player, basic rim) price arround 31k if not mistaken.. i met her after 2 years she’s bough it.. since i only hv kapcai during my study time, so is a convenience to tumpang her once a while.. after started work, i drove my 2nd hand cefiro.. but her kelisa still the best for me.. pump 10 ringgit ron95 can pusing2 kl for 1day without worries.. now from basic i turn it to blck metallic color with 15 inch sport rim and some adjustments… look nicer and very2 less problem .. the best part i not only make over the car i also convert the owner from my girl friend to my wife…

this kelisa almost 9years old … compare to 10years old cefiro, that car is very easy to maintain and very economic.. time to say bye2 the cefiro.. u r good car.. but i need new preve for my ride.. still keep the kelisa since is a good car just without any technology and safety…

  • Here’s my story about my Perodua… I have the last batch of Kelisa before viva was launched.. About the car, low maintenance, great power to weight ratio, fuel economical, poor handling (better than the rest of Perodua cars), lousy suspension, lousy sound proofing… and last but not least, the car was overpriced!! RM41k just for a kancil sized car is expensive! If that time the Saga BLM was already offered to the public, i will definitely get the Saga BLM rather than the small tiny Kelisa unless it is priced at RM35k for the top of the line model.. Perodua, your cars are overpriced!! I know Proton also overpriced but at least their cars are bigger in size..

Kenari (Limited Edition with Leather Seat) So good till the last 230KKm. Have seenthe fourth owner doing Dyno on it.

And Kembara DVVT manual, only if the gear differential dosen’t give up and costly to repair, Iwould still keep it, but I trade it with Navara.

  • Kelisa bought last batch before Viva,2007.
    Problems :
1.) Crappy silverstone tyres. Bulging sidewall.
    Changed to better ones.
2.) Faulty power windows switches. Changed to new
    switches.
3.) Engine & aircond behaved erratic. Service centre
checked car engine controller. Said nothing wrong.
    Problem magically goes away.
4.) Rear absorbers hangkang after 30k km. Replaced.
5.) Engine behaved again erratic. Found faulty engine wire harness.
Costs nearly RM400, excluding labour charges.
6.) Alarm unit/main door lock unit faulty.Need to order
from Daihatsu Japan.Cost RM500. Went to car accessories
shop and replaced with cheaper alternative.
7.) Circuit & diode faulty at back of meter dashboard
unit.Car cannot start if gear at P position.Have to
set at N position to start it.Perodua advised to
replace whole meter unit, cost RM500.Get outside
mechanic to fix it.No need to replace. Now ok.
8.) Loose rear plate number lights.

If you guys can stretch the budget, get a better car.
    Perodua quality is a letdown.In summary,cheaper
to buy in 1st place, quite pricey to maintain in long
run. & the service centre try to pull your leg, force
you to use semi synthetic oil.mineral oil is good
enough but they intentionally wants to fleece you.

That’s how they make money from innocent ppl.
    Good experience,right?

Hahaha this is turning out to be like McDonald’s disastrous Twitter campaign.

My mom had a Kancil, then a few cars later, a Kelisa (which we still have). Both cars have performed beautifully, no major problems. In fact the Kancil, I don’t remember any problems at all. The Kelisa, brake pads are finished pretty quickly, and the engine mounting had to be redone to fix the vibration. Other than that, excellent car.

Since the inevitable comparisons are going to come, I’d just like to point out, I’m on my 2nd Proton car right now and no problems yet.

The only Perodua I ever owned was a Kelisa manual from ’02 to ’04. So, that’s nearly ten years ago. Bought it so my wife could practice for her driving test. She never really did drive the car after she got her driving license though, never could drive a manual.

So I was the one using it alternately with my lousy Waja, so comparatively I had better memories of that car. Bought it rather cheaply at 31K then….. tell me what will that money get me from Perodua now? It was a fun car to drive and thrash about. My regret was having to sell it off coz my wife need an auto. Sold to sister-in-law who also loved the car to bits until an accident which afterwards she upgraded to a Kenari (worse but bigger space).

Our replacement is the Kia Picanto auto, which we still own 8 years on. There was a time we contemplated to change back to a Kelisa auto, but time passes and the car got more expensive (MyVi is too expensive, well it was introduced later than the Picanto) and later discontinued. From what I read here it is the model that touches a lot of Malaysians heart, and mine too.

Tetapi masalah kembali selepas beberapa bulan…

Setiap pagi apabila saya menghidupkan enjin, lagi sekali terdapat bunyi macam tikus menjerit…menyakitkan telinga n nyilu..

Dulu pernah pakai Wira, sikap service centre yg buat kita pikir 2x nak beli Proton tapi Proton mungkin dah OK sekarang ni tapi Perodua nampaknya akan jadi macam EON service dulu tu. Sekarang kete service kat luar aje, dah lama x hantar SC. SC mahal, x berkualiti, slow, x menyelesaikan masalah, x responsive dan senang cerita – tension dan buang masa. Itulah pengalaman “manis” saya dengan Perodua.

What i got was a 2006 March Myvi 1.3EZi after wait for 8 months from the 2005 booking date.

Reason i switch to my first Perodua is due to had enough of Proton crappy quality.

    1. 1st week of ownership found the driver side carpet flooded with rain water. (Send to perodua to solve but took them very long time yet still cannot solve . This give customers indication your still new to this car and not well trained for handling this car) After multiple complain made, multiple appointment send back whenever heavy rain drive found water flooded, finally it was myself that found the rootcause of the problem (the plug hole rubber seal not properly fitted for the wire loom from engine bay to the driver cabin causing the rain water to follow the wires to comes in) Solutions = use Aquarium silicon seal to seal that rubber plug gap.

    2. Brakes caliper and rotor design and material used very poor (Various problem, 1st set = noise knocking sound on uneven road, 2nd set = Steering vibrate, 3rd set = the so called improved version also suffer knocking sound and vibrate steering when braking, 4th set caliper brake pad holder bend and causing the caliper holder metal to scrap the rotor. Photos of the bend calipers already posted in myvi forum) Manage to claim 4 set before my 2 years warranty expired. However all the 4 sets failed (the last set claim only travel 2000km). Solutions = Find Myvi forum and read the forum see what other forumer do. Manage to get a chop shop brakes (from honda EG9) to fitted into it at out side mechanic. Problem solve till now.

    3. The carpet start to smelly due to the previous rain water flooded the driver side as mention in number 1. above. Solution is claim a new set. Then when send to claim, the technician at perodua just change a new set of carpet without checking for rust. Found out that the rust have start to eat the very thin layer of anti rust protection. Send back to perodua again for them to respray. No car to use for 1 week. (Why there is no relieve car for customers to use temporary when their car is under claim warranty?) while the Service center manager get to drive a company owned Kelisa to work every day. Your service center manager more important then customers impression were given to the affected customers.

    4. The list goes on…

  • andy_tiong_wan_fa on May 27, 2012 at 3:46 am

    4. Bearing inside knuckle very weak. Just because of the bearing failure, causing your company a lot of money due to your technician don’t know how to troubleshoot at that time.
Problem happen when ABS lights turn on and not flashing. Its stay on. Technician use OBDII to read the ABS fault code found Right hand side ABS sensor “Open” status A.K.A at fault.
Action taken = Claim the ABS sensor. Reset the ABS computer using the OBDII. The problem comes back again after one days return to customers. I have to send back to check this time due to it affect the braking performance of the car. A slight more pressure on the brake paddle will cause the car ABS acutator to activate. Claim an ABS module. Then return to customers. It happen again after one week Same problem. End up i go out side found a Daihatsu Boon/Siron 1.5 half cut knuckle whole set changed. Problem solve. After careful study on the problem found the bearing failure making the ABS MAgnetic sensor reader to read wrong due to the disc brake rotor scraping the brake knuckle causing metal debris and magneticly stick to the ABS sensor to block the sensor causing it to read “Open” error.

    5. In summary, Read each respective car club forum to see what problem your customer is facing and think of a corrective, containment action, preventive action to solve it. Use 8D management approach.
Reasons is simple, no one will have enough free time to rewrite what they experience (bad one) and spoon feed it to you when they have already give up on your products.

I have already given up on your products as its was my first and last experience owning a perodua myvi. No more Perodua car for my family in future. Rather save the money (strectching budget) to go and loan more for a better imported car.

Last bit of advice = Check your service center regularly – perform spot check. See your After sales service then go and compare to your nearest rival see how they do. Send in spy to learn how others do it.

Customers service is the weak point here.
    1. No backup transport given for Warranty claim customers that have to leave their car there for more than 3 days to rectify the problem.
    2. No ready spare parts to claim… all have to wait and order.
    3. Warranty claim procedures too long and difficult to claim. Make a short simple and easy to reduce the time out of service for the customers.
    4. Compare your service center to a more expensive rival (Comparing servicing Toyota Vios and the Myvi) The price almost the same only different of RM20 ~ 30 ringgit. Why can’t Perodua service be cheaper to maintain the gap? This make customers who own this 2 brand of car feel like Vios (10K km oil change) service is more lower cost compare to Myvi (every 5K km) which makes customers rethink again on the cost of maintainence for local car is more in the long run.
    5. Good luck with the changes, please improve as proton already improve a lot (My experience servicing my new Saga BLM year 2008). Now Produa service center is at the bottom of the list in terms of service, cost of service.

Everything is about cost of ownership vs the service offered vs the price value difference for the car and compare to the nearest rival. Which is more valuable is being weighted. Why others can do it why you cannot?

saya baru beli perodua viva elite bulan mac 2012..happy bila pakai viva bab mmg tersenarai dalam keta idaman..
saya memiliki kereta toyota rush(2009), proton wira(1997) dan yg terbaru viva elite…
saya bandingkan ketiga2 kereta tersebut…viva mmg sesuai utk antar anak pergi/balik sekolah sebab penjimatan minyak
tetapi baru 3 bulan pakai, viva aku dah byk kemek/lekuk2…bukan sbb xcdent tapi kebanyakan sebab anak aku tersandar kat pintu…adui, lembutnye..patut pun mmbr2 ramai yg kata, keras lagi tin sardin berbanding body viva…

Got my myvi se1.5 on October ’13. My first Malaysian made car. So am happy with it. Been to desaru, kota tinggi on numerous weekends. Also have been to Melaka, Mersing, and Kepala Batas/Tasek Gelugor, Penang. As i’m living in Singapore, only drive my myvi (kept at my JB home on weekends. In SG am using a toyota wish. Myvi se1.5 is a good car for it’s category. Smooth, has adequate power, and fun to drive. My only complaint is, there’s a soft rattling noise, like something loose from dashboard, passenger side, especially when driving long distance at high speed. Quite irritating. Will point this out to SC later. If they could not resolve this, i might change to another make/brand next time. Maybe I’m just a bit too fussy :). Oh well, pity, I still like my myvi.

My MYVI 1.3 auto bought in year 2006 also have the same rattling sound from dashboard now. Last year changed the rotor disk one pair RM300 at a car workshop (Perodua rotor disk costs around RM560/pc. if I’m not mistaken). In April ’13 changed one side of the back light RM409.30/pc. My mileage is 70K km. but now they said must change Engine Mounting RM900: Support Absorber RM59 X 2 = RM118; Absorber .?? RM157.40 x 2 = RM302.80; Compressor RM1,846.10; V-Belt rm80.00; Caliper noise RM164.00; Crank Sensor RM300; Hose Radiator RM250 and Battery RM195.00. Far too expensive to maintain for a small car like this.

  • I’ve sent my kelisa to several p2 SCs in klang valley since 2007.
Last service was on April 2013. sent to taman wahyu SC next to jalan kuching, KL. Total cost is RM 1,891.85 and waited for almost 6 hours. The most expensive cost that i ever charged by p2 SC. The cost are inclusive of replacement of front brake caliper MVYi 1.5 with brake pad (RM 750), front rotor disc MYVi 1.5 (RM 330), front absorber (RM 330), front absorber mounting (RM 118) and etc.

They were advised me to use front brake caliper MYVi 1.5 with brake pad for betterment even though my car is kelisa model. Well… they r so called the expert anyway… expert sangat la konon..

My nightmare began when suddenly i had flat tyre on 2 weeks after that. I jz realized p2 SC had WRONGLY advised the customer. Taman wahyu SC (so called the expert) had not thinking that MyVi front brake caliper is too big for kelisa model when we are using spare tyre. My car hardly to move due to the strong friction between spare tyre rim and the caliper. So noisy.

I lodged report on 10/5/2013 to p2 HQ on this matter. Taman wayhu SC claimed the was no stock of that part. no action taken. Waited for a month. finally i made a call again to Taman wahyu SC on 14/6/2013. They were actually overlooked on my case!!

Solution proposed by the TAMAN WAHYU SC is they just want to replace the MYVi caliper to Kelisa caliper which only RM 450, while the caliper MYVI which wrongly suggested by the SC and has been paid by me is RM 750. Taman wahyu SC refused to pay me the balance of the money difference even though it was WRONG suggestion to use caliper myvi made by them and not upon customer request.

The conclusion are…p2 after sale service is so bad. Over charged and too expensive. SC doesnt want to take responsibility and not serious on yr report. They seems take it lightly on customer safety.

63633 – JUST ANOTHER SCAM SmS centre ???
20/8 @2.45 pm – received msg telling “JPH358′ to contact 06-9537499 for service appointment/enquiry without any info that it’s from Perodua !
    1. Why was SmS sent to me when my Myvi service was already done on 22/7 ( < 1month ago ). Does Perodua still use a system that's outdated OR cannot be updated ?
    2. If it is to serve as a service reminder for the next service , then the SmS would hv outlived its useful purpose- when my next scheduled appointment is still 2 months away (18/10)
IF PERODUA IS TO LIVE UP TO ITS "PEOPLE FIRST" MOTTO
then it's better to hv the kampong frontline 'receptionist' staff to be equally conversant in fluent English, too !!!

Owned the old Myvi and the last batch kelisa. Comments about those two cars?

Myvi: One of the most unreliable cars that I’ve ever owned. Why? undercarriage spoil so easily even after I got the car for 6 months. Got it repaired and a few months later, the undercarriage starts to make noise again!
And also the power steering, keeps making Crook Crook finally whenever I do U turn. Never solved until I sold it. And also the disc brakes which i got it repaired so many times and the vibration is still there. The quality of the disc brakes is so poor that it was never solved. And the whole car feels like falling apart after 3 years of ownership. It gave me so much headache which resulted me to trade it for a Persona which never gave me any problem till I traded it in for a 3 serves (yeah I got promoted) And I woke up one day to find that my car porch smells of fuel to find out that my Myvi engine bocor! And believe it or not? That was only 3 months of ownership of the car! Quickly drove to the Perodua service centre and they said the engine seal is broken.

Kelisa: A much much more problem free car than the myvi. However, there are still problems and the problems are: the unreliable undercarriage. Got it fixed numerous times. Lasted me for about almost a year until it starts to make noise again. The a/c also one thing, just 2 years of owning it, it starts making some “woo” noise. But the sound is magically gone now. And the freaking alarm disarmed itself in public when I was away! I was wondering what will happen if my car is stolen? After that, I stop using the alarm and use manual key lock instead. And the car disarmed itself again! Went to change to an after market alarm and problem solved till today. And the rear absorber Kong after 1 year of ownership and luckily Perodua spotted it leaking and changed a new 1 for me.I still keep the car till today because of its fuel efficiency and small size. But quality is just as horrible as Myvi.

Before I changed to a Persona, I was really really telling myself that am I really sure to change to a Proton which is far worse than Perodua? And I just took the risk to get 1. And believe me, it served me well for 5 years and the only problem is the front door leak during heavy rain but that is easily solved. Before I traded it in for the 3 series, the car clocked at 180k and the car was still quiet in and out. My brother also own a Persona and it was a bliss. Problem free since day one which changed my family’s impression towards Proton.

So to those who claimed Proton sucks, I owned both cars from both companies and trust me, Proton isn’t the same as the gen2 and waja days. And perodua isn’t the sender as the kelisa, kancil and kenari days. Even the nex Myvi suffers quality issue such as disc brakes, esp problem and lousy undercarriage reliability.

I’m not on protons side nor I’m a Proton fan boy. But this is what I’ve experienced, so it’s a big no no to Perodua from me.

There is a serious fault in the design for the new ball bearing type absorber mounting for both Myvi Lagi Best and the latest model that uses standard absorbers that is made for the old Myvi model for quite some years back. Some OEM for this type of mounting does not have enough of clearance gap between the top absorber cover and mounting that eventually the two surface scratch against each other that cause the spring to twist suddenly causing a loud “tonk tonk” sound and you can feel it by touching the spring as you turn the steering to any one end. It will get more serious if your Myvi Lagi Best is loaded. A deep ring scratch mark is seem as you remove the absorber assembly. But this is not the end yet.The more serious default is the thread length on to piston shaft top. The absorber that is used in the old Myvi model had the nut on top screwed in totally and hence holds the absorber from falling off downward, therefore it is safe. But do you know that the same type of absorber for the old model is used in this new model? The result – half of the nut when in only and half is floating. Simply take out the caps on the top of your Myvi Lagi Best in your car and you will see what I meant. I wonder how the JPJ and the road safety department ever approved such non-sense, dangerous assembly to be put onto ten of thousands of this new MYVI model? We MYVI owners are at full risks! This type of assembly is even compounded by other ball bearing OEM manufacturers that even have higher displacement in high that even cause the nut only to be tightened to one third of the distance leaving two third afloat. This is crazy! This tidak apa attitude can only causes more fatal casualties than Takada air bag problems! Seriously JPJ, are you guys doing anything yet to this massive problems here?
