Great Wall Motor’s 2012 exports up 42% so far

Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motor said it exported 37,931 vehicles in the first five months of this year, which is a big 42% jump compared to the same period last year. Exports accounted for 17% of the company’s vehicle sales during the period.

From January to May 2012, GWM’s vehicle sales rose 19% to 230,000 units. The company aims to sell 600,000 vehicles this year, with exports totaling 100,000 units. Last year, Great Wall sold 487,000 units, of which 83,000 units were exported. The Baoding, Hebei based company is China’s second-largest passenger vehicle exporter behind Chery.

Incidentally, Chery and Great Wall are also the main Chinese brands in Malaysia. The latter brand was launched here last July with two models, the RM120k Haval H5 SUV and the Wingle pick-up truck, which starts from RM60k. Click here for full details and pics.

  • Guys don’t forget chinese companies are cash rich and shown their desire to takeover many european car companies (including our ‘Lotus’) in order to improve their technology and products. I have to admit some of their cars can be labelled ‘mediocre’, just like one of my friend’s experience with the Chery Eastar. The Koreans have proven that they can match the big boys, don’t be surprised with the Chinese next! :)
