To Vios, If you think engineering marvel mean admiring something named Toyota Vios, that you chosed it as your name, then it explains why your mentality towards this event. FYI Vios is only as crap as a Proton Saga with Orion engine. Watch both underneath these two cars , you will see they are sharing the same technology. You are only impressed with what you see from outside but never really understand the engineering value behind it; in A toyota vios as well as in PEC cars…

You really know nothing about the event, yet still want to expose your own ignorance (and stupidity). They are not using lawn mower engine. There are real engineering work being done: cylinder deactivation, very lean afr, Atkinson cycle, vehicle dynamics, thermoelectric generator for exhaust gas energy recovery, etc.

Those who bash blindly doesn’t know what these students did. Some of the teams did these:
-cylinder deactivation with engine running on 3, 2 or 1 cylinders as required by the load on the cars.
-engine running very lab air to fuel ratio at about 18 to 20 AFR.
-There is one team that modified the engine to run on Atkinson cycle using higher compression ratio to increase thermal efficiency.

I can only highlight a few. But this isn’t lawnmower engine… you go to Shell EcoMarathon for that.

what kind of engineering? engine provided…make a chasis? using computer simulation for aerodynamic? target is fuel efficiency but modify to the chasis that cannot be used in real world….student will always wasting time…the lecturer also not on the right track. the engineering fundamental still weak but expert in computer analysis…

dats too much bashing, I suppose this shud be encouraged. we have to develope our local pro in automotive. those bashers complaining abt the ‘engineering’, were u even there? have u seen what they’d done (the institutions, not perodua, I oso tot perodua had not given much than giving the money and the engine)

plus, a good opportunity to see if they can come up what can be further upgrade/improve/modified with the tiny little engine used in very much all daihatsu small compacts. a small step towards developing our own fiat’s multiair, perhaps? I wud like to see that coming, and integration of hybrids in their cars too. wud like too see if they can go real on the road test rather in a circuit.

so, bash accordingly, not blindly. thais are developing hybrids and electric cars? not so, the techs are japanese bound, there, they just merely assemble it.

bash, but with responsibility, bash, but give alternatives/ideas. dont be much of typical Malaysian.

Benefit of this program. Oh well. Just to provide real world engineering experience to engineering students when time and money are the limiting factors. Beats the boredom of monotonous lectures and labwork. It may looks simple but most of the engineering works ie. design, analysis and fabrication are equivalent to real industrial works. You can put any engine you want and design the suspension, braking, chassis etc to accomodate the engine power.

If our parents were as ignorant and negative as you are, you probably were the one who are holding the lawn mower alongside the highway cutting the grass…..
