VIDEO: Hyundai teases HB20 compact for Brazil

We recently reported on Hyundai setting up a factory in Brazil, and this looks like its first baby. Based on the Euro-spec i20, this new little car, destined and developed solely for the Brazilian market, features in this short teaser clip.

The HB20 (‘HB’ standing for Hyundai do Brazil, ’20’ denotes platform size), as it’s called, will enter production at the Piracicaba plant in September. It will debut at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in October, with sales expected to start around that time.

Engines offered are a 85 hp 1.0 litre (manual only) and a 130 hp 1.6 litre (four-speed automatic as optional extra). The engines are flex fuel – they can run on either petrol or ethanol.

Changes include a restyled grille and smaller round fog lamps and alloy wheels, amongst others, but Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language still shows. Like the car on which it’s based, the HB20 will sit at around 4 metres long, 1.7 metres wide and 1.5 metres high.

On the heels of this first HB model are a sedan and a crossover version, due next year.

While most dream of the future, Jonathan Tan dreams of the past, although he's never been there. Fantasises much too often about cruising down Treacher Road (Jalan Sultan Ismail) in a Triumph Stag that actually works, and hopes this stint here will snap him back to present reality.
