End of the road for Mazda’s CX-7

A Mazda spokesman has revealed to Autocar that the CX-7 has gone out of production, further claiming that although sales in the UK have been satisfactory at around 800 to 1000 per year, the company’s smaller CX-5 is doing well and it made sense to bring CX-7 production to a close.

The idea is that the CX-7 would bow out, allowing the CX-5 to take its place. Mazda can then introduce its SkyActiv technology (first seen on the CX-5) range-wide, simplifying production and expanding profit margins.

The Mazda CX-7 was officially launched in Malaysia in December 2009 wearing a RM248k price tag, although there were some CBU imports running around prior to that. It was powered by a turbocharged 2.3 litre four-cylinder that produced 234 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

The bigger CX-9 will soldier on in relevant markets like the US and Russia.

Perhaps its the best decision. i never get CX-7; it looks extremely identical to CX-9 and I don’t really see the point of producing it.

Might as well do it like Nissan’s Livina – X-Gear and Grand Livina.

CX-9 is the best-looking Jap SUV, much better than Harrier.
Of course, the most beautiful SUV is still — X6.

It’s sad to see this brilliant Jap SUV going the way of the chop. Seriously, i’ve never seen a lifestyle SUV this stylish looking and swift, thanks to the good-old turbocharged 2.3 engine straight off the Mazda 6 MPS.

Sigh, CX-7, we;ll miss you, for showing people that lifestyle SUV’s can still be stylish and reliable.

no idea, why CX-7 is going to end when sales are satisfactory. perhaps turbo and premium price tag doesnt fit the bill anymore hence the cheaper CX-5 will take over.

What if……Proton were to purchase the rights to produce CX-7 and rebadge as a Proton??

In Australia the CX7 was released before the CX9! I have had one for 5 years and love it – in my opinion better looking and more distinctive than the CX5 which looks like many others in the same class but now that will probably be my replacement.
