Mazda6 estate for Paris debut: official images

Here are some official pictures of the estate (or wagon, if you prefer) version of the Mazda6, the saloon version of which recently made its first public appearance at the Moscow motor show. It’s set to be in attendance at the Paris motor show from September 27, along with its four-door sibling.

The same 2.0 and 2.5 litre petrols with 150 and 190 hp are on the menu, but Mazda has announced a 2.2 litre Euro 6-compliant clean diesel which will be offered in 150 and 175 hp states of tune. The Mazda6 range goes on sale in Europe at the end of the year.

We think this is one stylish load lugger – what say you?

Is it just me, or does the sedan’s rear scream Elantra?

Anyway, yep, very stylish indeed. Mazda’s new design language is really working out for them.

i dunno why or is it just me, but i feel the design works significantly better on estate than sedan. not say that the sedan is an ugly creature, but it’s like everything blends in more ‘effortlessly’ and perfect on the estate. it’s as if the designers have the estate in mind, instead of hatchback or sedan, when they started to draw the new Mazda6. Love it!

I believe that is usually the case. In Germany you hardly see big sedans. A4 and A6 are usually sold as estate, Passat too. C and E class as well as 3 and 5 series are often (maybe not as often as Audi and VW) sold as estate. The Toyota Avensis, if seen, is usually an estate. Volvo obviously too. Mondeo is popular as estate. The list goes on and on and on.

Also what has helped the estate in general was that it is not just seen as a practical thing nowadays. It’s more of a lifestyle thing, it has to look good, and the estate shape, when going down a bit coupe like at the back, does lend to it. Even the Ferrari FF is an estate. Sort of.

Wow! Seems like Audi has got a new competitor in designing nice-looking wagons!

This has to be the best-looking wagon after the Audi A6.

      Opel Insignia Sports Tourer
      Citroen C5 Tourer
      Ferrari FF
      BMW 3 series Touring
      BMW 5 series Touring
      Audi A4 Avant
      Mercedes C class T model
      Mercedes E class T model
      Volvo V40
      Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon

  • I personally prefer wagon than other body style. Please bring more wagon in Malaysia. The practicality is unmatchable by sedan and hatchback!

  • Have been waiting to see this wagon since August 2012 when they released the video of the first unit rolling off the assembly line in Japan . Designwise it is a thing of beauty. The extra glass allows the design to flow gracefully to its conclusion. Better than the sedan. I will print it out and put it on my wall and visualise driving it…

I prefer the old 6 Wagon.

This new design language works better on the sedan. The back of this wagon don’t seem to gel very well with the new front.

    Bring more wagons!

Not very surprising. Look at any recent D segment wagon and their sedan counterpart. Audi, Merc, BMW, Ford, Opel, Citroen, … all at least as good looking as their sedan counterpart. It is just that we don’t get to see those.
