Peugeot RCZ R: 260 hp, most powerful Pug yet

Peugeot RCZ R: 260 hp, most powerful Pug yet

Enfin! Peugeot has announced an RCZ that will truly be worthy of its sports coupe moniker. It’s called the RCZ R, and it’s also Paris show-bound, albeit as a concept. However it’s not going to stay a concept – Peugeot says it will make production and be on sale by the end of 2013.

The RCZ R obviously inherits the new facelift, and is powered by the same 1.6 litre THP block as in the normal RCZ, only here it’s tuned to give 260 hp, which makes it the most powerful road-going Peugeot ever to see the light of day.

This in turn results in an impressive specific engine output of 160 hp per litre (about the same as that of a Caparo T1, and that’s a different ballpark altogether). The hot Pug also features a Torsen front limited-slip differential to keep things in check around the twisties.

Rrrrrriiiigggghhhhtttt….. I have NO idea where you can get that answer. Preve is a 4 door sedan, and this Pug is a 2 door coupe. I don’t know whether your eyes are blind, or you’re just acting stupid. It’s completely a different ball game for the 2. the Preve competes with the Nissan Sylphy / Corolla Altis, where else the Pug is competing on the coupe level like the Audi TT. Do your homework before saying anything stupid.

Stop being fooled and trapped by this R guy coz he is a mere Preve basher. He will even say ‘Preve is better’ eventhough if this article is about Airbus or Boeing planes.

Is it just me or does the rims look a bit too small for the car? Not a big fan of the bronze/brown color but still a very nice car overall.

Idaho, thanks for reminding me that my balls are smaller than the rims. I suppose your balls are bigger than your car rims. Hope you don’t have any trouble getting in and out of your car then :) and make sure you don’t sit on them either.

To the idiot that mentioned “kecoh je perancis” he probably has no idea this car is powered by an engine that is co-developed by PSA/BMW, and is used in Mini Coopers as well. Tell me which model of mini cooper comes with 260bhp stock?

Talking rubbish is easy, please name me a few German 1.6L car that comes with 300bhp stock. Pfft

Ler ingatkan keta apa tadi 1.6HP 300 HP. WRC car rupanya. Agak2 VW Polo WRC 1.6 TSI akan jual on the road tak? Kalau jual on the road, kena beli sekali ngan WRC team engineer tak maintain engine powerfull tu? Kalau kena beli sekali ngan team mechanic WRC nak maintain, mahal tu jadinya. Baik beli RCZ ni ajer, kureng 40 HP ajer, tak tak payah pakai WRC team nak maintain. Road tax pon RM 90 ajer. he he he

buat perangkap, sendiri kena perangkap…malu la beb! huhuhuhu….

at the end of the day people still go for premium: BMW, Merc, Audi, Volvo for long term prestige/reliability/enjoyment.

Quote “The WRC Street receives a tweaked version of the larger Golf GTI’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine – it has been tuned to produce 220hp in the new Polo, ” 2 liter engine? Not same category as 1.6l mill.

only VW Polo and base line Audi A1 uses small engine displacement.
Where else high performance fun Audi A1, A3 and VW GTI uses 2L and 2.5L for fun factor.

    Let us do some analysis:

Preve: 1.6 litre 138 hp CFE engine
RCZ R: 1.6 litre 260 hp THP engine

Both cars have same capacity engine but difference of 122 hp! Which is better, you decide.

Honestly, I am going to be extremely wary, it’s the same engine as the mini cooper s and that engine is not the most robust. I know, I own an r56 now… To tweak to 260 would need a new turbo, intercooler, air intake, manfifold, exhaust etc etc assuming that you can guarantee reliability hot and humid climate. Hence they would need to detune it like the golf r which has about 15 less hp here….one thing for sure it has to be manual (yea) or dsg as the current auto is not up to task…
