With all the buzz surrounding the 2012 Paris motor show, this one’s understandably easy to miss, but no less interesting. Shown at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany, the Volkswagen Caddy panel van is the latest to get the Cross muscled-up moniker, joining the likes of the Cross Polo, Cross Golf and Cross Touran. It’s due to go into production early next year and hit UK showrooms soon after.
A black bodykit extends around the bumpers, side sills and wheel arches. There are silver roof rails, side strips and undercarriage guards at the front and back. Visually it’s toughened up, and if you desire your Cross Caddy to go as rugged as it shows, there’s a 4MOTION all-wheel drive option.
Inside, there’s a two-tone front seat design with contrasting door panel inserts, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and grey stitching on the gear knob and handbrake.
Eight exterior colours will be offered – if you like this one, it’s the Viper Green from the Scirocco‘s hue range. Five- and seven-seat versions are available. Powerplant choices mirror those of the regular Caddy: petrol, diesel, LPG and natural gas units ranging from 85 to 168 hp.
The Cross Caddy is based on the Caddy Edition 30 which surfaced last year; there’s no shortage of special Caddies, as we know…
