Mitsubishi Mirage – rendering offers the sedan take

Mitsubishi hasn’t officially stated that its Mirage compact will be shaped in any other manner than it is now, as a five-door hatchback, but that hasn’t stopped rendering guru Theophilus Chin from offering a view of what a booted form of the car might well look like.

Theo says that he read somewhere that Mitsubishi intends to come up with a sedan variant of the car, which sounds like just the thing to put into emerging markets. Do you think a Mirage sedan is a viable prospect?

Mitsubishi Mirage – rendering offers the sedan take

The Thai-made Mirage is set to be launched here next month – we’ve already sampled it in Thailand, and its local specifications are already known. Three variants will be available, ranging from RM56k to RM64k.

Look how Thailand govt promote their auto sector:

    1. Thailand First-Car Buyer Scheme:
    – Tax rebates of up to 100,000 Baht (RM10K) to first-time car buyers from September 16 to December 31, 2012
    – Thai Excise Department will begin issuing the rebates of up to 100,000 Baht for each first-car owner after car owner has owned the car for one year
    – The tax rebate will be a one-off payment made in a lump sum by cheque from the department
    – Eligible vehicles are cars below 1500cc and pickup trucks unlimited engine capacity below 1 million Baht price (below RM100K)
    – The vehicles must be locally assembled – excluding those that are assembled from used imported parts
    – Minimum age for buyers is 21
    – To prevent profiteering, the vehicle has to remain in the possession of the first buyer for 5 years
    – The tax rebate is expected to cost Thai government about 150 billion Baht (RM15 Billion), assuming that 500,000 Thais will buy first cars
    – It will also benefit Thai rubber farmers, since at least 2.5 million tires will be needed for estimated 500,000 cars sold

    2. Thailand Eco Car Policy:
    – Follow-up from policy of “Detroit of Asia” in 2002 giving incentives to OEMs, especially Japanese OEMs such as Toyota, to relocate production of pickups to Japan
    – Eco cars defined as need to pass stringent environmental and fuel economy regulations such as running fuel on 20km/L
    – Eco car applicable on A-B segment of engine displacement less than 1,400 cc for diesel and 1,300 cc for gasoline
    – Eco cars can enjoy special incentives by reducing the excise tax from 30% to 17%
    – Mitsubishi Mirage is one such example of cars produced under Eco Car rules

Here? Habok pun tarak. Kereta jimat minyak tapi MITI hantam harga mahal sembelih rakyat.

But for Proton, very easy get free RM120 million duit rakyat hantam lah R&D tapi kereta masih juga macam sial

Rakyat sendiri – kena sembelih, Proton – Enjoy hantam duit rakyat!

    Bravo Dacing, Bravo !

I feel small cars are better off being small 5 door wagons than sedans. First of all they look better and in the name of low cost, it should offer utility in a one size fits all application.

This formula seems to work in Europe but unfortunately buyers in developing countries in asia-pac tend to like sedans.

Tall-narrow bodied hatches have a tough time looking good with a boot tacked on.

Hyundai, Kia did a good job in creating cheap sedan from hatcback or vice-versa without being look ugly
(eg. Kia Rio-Sedan, Hyundai Accent K2)

That’s why you must employ modern-thinking car designers

Why should cheap sedan must look ugly? But Hyundai, Kia proved otherwise

Protong also can do the same – cheap yet beautiful sedan car

Only Protong must do is employ Chris Bangle as their new Chief Designer

Yes Protong can afford to pay gaji Chris Bangle…

Simply use the RM120 million electric car R&D grant from govt to pay him instead lah

Worth every sen to pay Chris Bangle RM120 million maybe over 10 years contract very cheap actually

We all happy to see Saga as beautiful as Kia Rio or Hundai Accent…but why Protong keep Saga as ugly as they can…biggest unsolved mystery…

      • Pay “local” cow designer…

I am not saying all local designer are cows. I know good designers but they won’t be employed by them as they do not belong to the cow group.

Somehow the rear view looks nicer than the front?

I’ve always been a boobies fan, but this time, its the booty that’s appealing? hmm.. JLo over Pamela?

The front reminds me of the weird looking swift sedan.. Not to say that it looks bad.. people might grow to like it.. but it just looks weird..
