Ford Evos concept spreads its wings in Sydney

Ford Evos concept spreads its wings in Sydney

Another one you’ve seen before – a full year ago in fact, at the Frankfurt motor show – but these live pics from Sydney will refresh your memory of the Ford Evos concept’s sexy lines and elaborate four gullwing doors. Taking centre stage at Ford’s indoor stand, which was intentionally dimly-lit and moody, the car’s bright red paintwork really stood out, grabbing lots of attention.

The Evos is a showcase of Ford’s future design direction, an evolution of the current Kinetic look found on the newest Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo models. Clearly that trapezoidal mouth is going to stick around for a while. The Evos is also said to preview the looks of the next Falcon for the Aussie market – that’s scheduled for 2014.

The Evos’ plug-in hybrid system is also to be found in the C-MAX Energi, and involves a high-voltage lithium-ion battery and electric motor working together with a high-efficiency Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine. The concept car was flanked by the new Mondeo and EcoSport global models on the indoor stand (Ford’s Aussie market-only cars were in a separate stand outside the exhibition centre).

Following reports of the company’s plans to stop building cars in Australia, the 2014 Falcon may very well be the last hurrah. We do hope the stunning Evos will give the popular full-size sedan, looks-wise at least, a proper, fitting send off.
