Seat has pulled the wraps of its Ibiza Cupra, the hot version of its B-segment hatchback. The Ibiza is a Volkswagen Group sibling of the VW Polo and this fourth-generation car was given a mid-life facelift early this year.
The Ibiza Cupra is powered by a 1.4 TSI twincharger engine (supercharger and turbocharger) that produces 180 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It’s the same engine as the one in stablemate Polo GTI, and like the VW, the Seat comes with a seven-speed DSG gearbox with steering paddles. A sound actuator in the exhaust system plays sporty tunes.
0-100 km/h in done is 6.9 seconds, while top speed is 228 km/h. Like the current crop of hot hatches, fuel consumption is pretty good at an average of just 5.9 litres per 100 km.
The 17-inch wheels you see here are standard and the suspension has been lowered and “tuned for maximum agility and precision”. Like the hot Polo, the Cupra gets VW’s XDS electronic differential lock to reduce understeer. An AP Racing performance brake system is offered as an alternative to the standard uprated brakes.
Market launch in Europe is scheduled for February 2013.
