Honda Brio Amaze – Brio sedan eco car makes debut

The Honda Brio Amaze sedan made its motor show debut at the ongoing Thai Motor Expo, drawing in last minute Thai buyers eager to profit from the government’s first car buyer scheme tax rebates, which will end December 31 this year.

The Brio Amaze, a booted variant of the Brio hatchback that was launched in March 2011, becomes the second sedan in Thailand to enjoy eco car status after the Nissan Almera.

Like the hatch (and other eco cars), the Brio Amaze is powered by a 1.2 litre engine. Honda’s four-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC motor makes 90 PS/110 Nm and is mated to a five-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Claimed fuel consumption for this Euro 4 engine is 20.4 km/l.

Other markets like India will get the Amaze with an oil burner, a brand new 1.5 litre Earth Dreams i-DTEC turbodiesel. We recently sampled the Brio Amaze with this engine in Japan. Click here to read the test drive report.

The 3,990 mm Amaze is 380 mm longer the Brio, but shares the hatchback‘s 1,680 mm width and 1,485 mm height. The sedan’s 2,405 mm wheelbase is 60 mm longer than the hatch’s. Kerb weight starts from 925 kg to 965 kg for the top spec CVT model, which is around 25 kilos heavier than the hatchback. Boot space is 400 litres, with a 20 litre compartment under the boot floor.

The Brio Amaze range is divided into the basic S spec and higher V spec, both available in manual or CVT auto. Prices start from 454,000 baht for the manual S to 521,000 baht for the automatic V. Under the first car buyer scheme, Thais can save up to 73,000 baht for this model.

The car’s ad featuring singer/actor Sukrit ‘Bie’ Wisetkaew (he might remind some locals of Mama instant noodles) is embedded above, and a live gallery from the show is after the jump. Click here to read our brief review of the Brio Amaze, with Honda’s new diesel engine.

Will the Brio hatch and Brio Amaze follow fellow eco car Mitsubishi Mirage and find its way to Malaysia?

  • I think this car will be priced at RM83K just below Honda city after import tax + excise duty + government tax.

looks weird from the design..but still this going to sell like hot cake in boleh land coz it’s Honda logo…generally interior looks very plastic and not that scratch resistant…mazda 2 seems better in design balance…

Honda is upgrading the City to higher level, and Brio/Amaze will eventually take city place. Like Civic not many can afford to buy now. Also, City goes rm85k to 90k at present.Others 1.5L Cars below 80k. So, Brio/Amaze comes in , perhap in the region of 60–70kto compete other model. M’sia sell car too expensive, all taxes.
