There’s no shortage of variation where Volkwagen’s third-generation Beetle Cabriolet is concerned. To begin with, the car – which was earlier announced in October and made its official debut in LA – will ship in US and Europe under different equipment lines.
Three are being offered in each case, the 2.5 L, Turbo and TDI in the US, while Europe gets the more traditional Beetle, Design, Sport trims. In addition, there are three special edition models for the open-top Beetle at its market launch.
These are called the 50s Edition, 60s Edition and 70s Edition. Each of the three editions reflects the style of a decade – in tribute to the legendary Beetle Cabriolet. The 50s Edition offers features such as 17-inch Circle Black alloy wheels, chrome door mirrors, a black soft top and Monochrome Black paint.
Meanwhile, the 60s Edition model gets its inspiration from the Swinging ’60s, with high-end sport seats in black-blue Vienna leather and either Denim Blue or Candy White body colour, in combination with a black soft top.
As for the 70s Edition, this one comes in either a Toffee Brown Metallic or Platinum Grey Metallic exterior shade, providing contrast to the beige-coloured soft top and leather sport seats.
Engine-wise, US customers will be able to pick from a 140 PS TDI and a 200 PS TSI – which are also offered in Europe – as well as a 170 PS five-cylinder MPI engine specially developed for the American market. The latter is offered with a six-speed torque-converter automatic, while the TSI and TDI get a six-speed DSG option.
European versions will feature a five engine spread, three TSI petrol units (105 PS, 160 PS and 200 PS) and two TDI diesels (105 PS and 140 PS). Transmission options include six- or seven-speed DSG gearboxes.
Equipment options include bi-xenon headlights, Keyless Access, ambience lighting, a 400 watt Fender sound system, radio-navigation system with touchscreen and hard drive, auxiliary instruments on the instrument panel (chronometer, oil temperature, charge pressure) and alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch formats.
Standard safety equipment includes ESP including brake assist and hill hold feature and a network of airbags, including side curtain airbags and automatically actuating rollover protection.

Beetle with R line bumpers r so beautiful…
the rear looks like PT Cruiser.
Beetle is cantiq and cute, perhaps one of the cheap toys than some of us may want to keep, we all know it is from German.
The ‘New Beetle’ has never been build in Germany, it’s from Mexico.
The last beetle built in Germany was the air-cooled ‘Beetle Cabriolet 1303’, production stopped in 1977 already… ;)
Look like a Porsche! With no roof.
More like the porsche 911 “no roof version la”
