More details have been unveiled about the new sixth-generation Maserati Quattroporte, along with a huge set of hi-res images to accompany the initial five they released earlier this year.
The biggest surprise – the transition to turbo power. The new Quattroporte will be available with two twin-turbocharged direct injection engines – a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 and a 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8. The top of the line 3.8 litre motor does 530 hp at 6,800 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 2,000-4,000 rpm. This can be overboosted to 710 Nm of torque from 2,250-3,500 rpm, which propels the V8-powered Quattroporte up to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
The new V8’s architecture retains the over-square, free-revving nature of the outgoing V8, with a bore of 86.5 mm and a stroke length of 80.8 mm, and it has a slightly lower compression ratio of 9.5:1. It uses high-tumble cylinder heads with four cam phasers, (double the number of the naturally-aspirated V8).
With hydraulically-adjusted roller finger followers and two continuous cam phasers for each cylinder head, it can advance or retard the inlet and exhaust valve timing independently in real time and it also reduces friction losses compared to old valvetrain systems.
The V6-powered option produces 410 hp and 550 Nm. The engine shares the V8’s bore and combustion chamber design, the same valves control technology (i.e. roller finger followers and four cam phasers), the same twin-turbocharging approach with twin scroll turbos and direct injection-ignition system. The engine auxiliaries are identical (alternator, starter motor and power steering pump) or very similar (variable displacement oil pump).
Both engines are mated to a ZF AT8-HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission, driving the rear wheels. The V6 motor has the option for all-wheel drive. Equipping all-wheel drive reduces 0-100 km/h time for the V6 from 5.1 seconds to 4.9 seconds, thanks to increased traction. The quattroporte has a mechanical LSD, offering 35% lockup under power and 45% under release.
Cabin luxuries include Maserati Touch Control screen, adjustable pedals (left hand- drive only), reverse camera and the optional 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as well as WLAN-based WiFi and compatibility with most modern mobile phone systems.

Sexy looking car, great sounding engine……
But I don’t think the front has the elegance from the old car. Just me
Previous gen was better! Looks like infiniti from front, and Mazda 929 from 90’s from back!
Sorry, I meant Xedos 9, not 929, Xedos 9 was a Mazda…just google it.
True, it looks like an infinity. But I can’t relate the rear to the Xedos 9.
Although the rear looks a bit like a Kia’s K3 tail lamps which in turns looks like a Ford Mondeo tail lamps. But it has sharper curve to it in the same angle as the Gran Turismo. And the gentle and Sexy boot lip and C-pillar easily distinguished it from a Ford or the Kia.
The side profile is incredibly sexy and the interior is jaw-dropping(wonder they fixed the user-friendliness that was a problem of the old car).
But there is only one reason other than the looks that make me really want this. The sound of the glorious V8. pure Italian.
[drooling in dream]
The rear looks very familiar.. Something like germanish, koreanish. Well, that’s better than copying T&H.
What? You compare the rear of this perfect Italian car with the Korean? Are you nuts?

Not exact but near.
And please, Italian car will never be perfect. The characteristic of Italian cars are imperfection which made its car unique.
Stop your mindless hate against Korean cars, they might not be the best in engineering car components but they did the right thing of hiring a competent designer.
True….Italians bcuz of their imperfection is what we really like. It gives character something that most car can’t. But it’s good and sexy looks looks is something only the Italians can do. Yes, the Kia and Hyundai are good looking. But there is something special in the Maserati design that is just jaw dropping.
Sad to say, even a premium car like Maserati looks a bit Korean to me now…..
Better than looking Japanese -> FUgly (Mazda is an exception)
See another nuts.. Italian cars like Maserati doesn’t looks like Korean and never looks one. Even a bit!
Heard the exhaust note in a tunnel once. damn! good really but sadly, knowing the unfortunate truth, that i won’t be able to afford one.
If i’m not wrong the current model uses the V8 from the F430, and it certainly way nicer than the F430. Amazing car, defies the cliche of big exec cars being boring.
y for every single topic u guys compare to japanese cars??? get a life c’mon…broaden ur horizons abit…
Indeed, perhaps they might rope in the Koreans soon as well.
Apart from Mazda, no other Jap car maker bothered with the idea of soulful, sexy and revolutionary design themes apart from Mazda. Even the premier offerings from Acura, Ifiniti and Lexus are no where near although some are actually very nice and engaging to drive.
Oh..the rear have some Audi look
This car only for the rich one.
another low resale value car…90% of mslaysian never heard of it..some may think its a chinese car..sad..want prestige?..buy toyota / lexus..very high demand now!
D look is on the soft side…
I wish this car is more on the road than Panamera. Sedap mata memandang
im sure the turbo route was probably for better emissions..? but I wonder what will the car sound like now?
