Daihatsu Move – fifth-gen facelift debuts in Japan

move 01

Daihatsu has introduced its facelifted fifth-generation Move in Japan, and though there aren’t any major changes to the car – which was introduced two years ago – a simple crash-avoidance system is now being offered, a first for the kei car segment.

Reports indicate that the system employs a laser to detect obstacles in front of the car, and applies the brake automatically to avoid a collision.

The facelift features four grade variants, these being the L, L”SA” as well as the X and X”SA,” in both 2WD and 4WD forms. The 3.39 metre-long vehicle continues on with the KF-VE 660 cc normally-aspirated mill offering 52 PS at 6,800 rpm and 60 Nm at 5,200 rpm, which is paired to a CVT gearbox.

The reports add that the new car is good for 29 km per litre in terms of fuel efficiency, up two kilometres from the pre-facelift. The Move will be more familiar to us as the Perodua Kenari, but this one is very far removed from the second-gen one we know.

perodua already missed the previous Move, which replaced the one that was rebadged as kenari. i dont think they are that interested since by paying royalties to daihatsu means the car wont be competitivedy priced.

it’s good. if they bring in this.
Make new Gen viva only sell at RM25k too RM40k.

    this Kenari’s replacement between RM40k to RM50k..

then facelift Myvi ommit 1.3L selling basic 1.5L starting from RM50k to RM63k.

like that can deal with the too much variant of viva… too much variant of myvi.
Plus point = Perodua no need bring in 1.3L engine anymore.

Well said. Agreed. “Kenari reborn”. No need to intro more new models with fantastic names. Use the current ones will do.

demand not that high, considering it was priced similar to wira sedan/aeroback. it will worse because the new kenari will eat into myvi’s huge market share which perodua doesnt need.

The Kenari looked like a Kangoo that was washed too hot. I’m surprised they could even sell as many as they did, given that the Kangoo has a much more harmonious design, but sold poorly.

This thing wouldn’t be that bad for Malaysia, especially for elderly drivers.

interior hugely remind me of the myvi lb.. especially those gear shifter.. i thought perodua self designed the myvi interior but from what i see, it it ‘inspired’ from this interior.

bring this to malaysia so can add more angry perodua on the road. There’a a lot of angry vivas, myvis and alza. So what’s another angry perodua to cucuk you from behind. Malaysians already tired seeing current angry perodua on their mirrors. New perodua will be much welcome to freshen the angry perodua lineup.

If Perodua rebadge it as New Kenari price below RM50K nobody will buy Saga…even Preve owners will trade-in to get it…less problems, fuel saving, no more turbo bocor etc.

This is the latest attempt by Daihatsu (and parent company Toyota) to break the domination of Suzuki WagonR in the ???? (kei jidosha) category here in Japan. The 29.0 km/l is nothing to shout about since WagonR is capable of reaching 28.8 km/l according to JC08 cycle. Another new competitor, Honda N-One only can get as far as 27.0 km/l.

Price wise, Move is the cheapest but not much. WagonR and N-One are more expensive by only 40k yen and 80k yen respectively.

In my opinion, ‘King WagonR’ is here to stay.
