Ford Fiesta Van – facelift goes the cargo route

ffvan 1

Ford has announced that the new Fiesta Van will enter the European market in January next year. It’s definitely not the first – Fiesta vans have been around for a bit, and this one is a continuation of the type, except that it’s underpinned by the facelifted Fiesta in its three-door form.

Features include 1.0 cubic metre of load space as well as a gross payload capability of 485-508 kg, making the vehicle perfect as a mobile workshop for ferrying light duty tools and equipment.

Engine choices for the Fiesta Van are a 75 PS 1.5 litre Duratorq TDCi diesel and 82 PS 1.25 litre Duratec petrol units, as well as an ECOnetic Van version wearing a 95 PS 1.6 litre Duratorq TDCi diesel with standard Auto-Start-Stop, along with lowered suspension, aerodynamic rear under-tray and wheel trims, and low rolling resistance tyres.

Just because it’s a van it doesn’t mean that mod cons aren’t there – Active City Stop, alongside Hill Launch Assist, Easy Fuel and Rear View Camera are to be found, and there’s even some bling available, in the form of optional 17-inch alloy wheels.

Why? it makes sense. I think its a good idea for small businesses. I see a lot of Pug 106 and Kangoo “vans” all over Paris doing its daily grind.

500kg payload is quite a feat for the Fiesta. No doubt the springs are really heavy duty.

Since the discontinuation of the AD Resort, there isn’t a viable alternative short of the Kangoo and the Avanza. Slim picking to say the least.

And what happened to the Exora “commercial” van? I’m sure if Proton gets of its ass and make one, it would be popular, given as a commercial vehicle, it is subjected to lower taxes. If they could do a basic Exora for 57k, I’m sure they could price the commercial Exora close to 50k, which is tremendous value.

An Exora commercial van could hurt the image of the regular Exora, thus hurting sales.

The Kangoo isn’t on sale anymore (in Malaysia), so people are left with NV200 and Avanza. AD Resort was a station wagon, I wouldn’t see that one as a commercial vehicle.

It’s a shame they don’t sell the new Kangoo here, because it is a wonderful car. The old one was already really good, but the new one is much more refined (Scenic as platform, rather than Clio).

Can’t agree more. This suits for small sole proprietorship business people to have small vehicle to deliver goods due to limited capital to start their own business.

There you have Renault Kangoo, more practical than this sub-compact vehicle.

Renault kangoo will end up more time in workshop than on the road.

That’s nonsense. I drive a Kangoo, and it is a brilliant car. Comfortable, with great suspension and good stability at higher speeds. Apart from a bit wear and tear there are also no problems with it. Yes, after a while brakes need to be replaced. Engine mounting too, after 100k. But not much, and the parts are easily available and very affordable. Much cheaper than a Japanese car for sure.

So what exactly is your experience with the Kangoo? Or is it the usual nonsense that a conti is hard to maintain and expensive to run?

          • Its typical conti bashing by some idiot with no experience of driving a Kanoio before

  • i think it would be better if they’d converted the 4 door version into a van… much more space if you ask me… then again… it’s a fiesta~~

    • What 4 door version? The sedan?

The Fiesta hatchback is available as a 2 and 4 door car.

This car probably doesn’t have rear seats though, so I wonder what good a 4 door version would be.

Let see how much it’ll sell here. Bare in mimd ford fiesta doesn’t come cheap.

Some driving a van in malaysia require GDL license. I guess it won’t suit the sole propietor too much as most of them will end up buying mpv like avanza or alza.

    • Sigh…..you again
It’s a practical vehicle, for small start-up company. If you are working in Pasar Malam or congested KL street market, it makes more sense to get this than the other alternative available …. The Triton lite or the Nissan Vanette NV209.
Smaller size and makes it easier to zip-through town.

BTW, is the ‘AVH’ name really that nice to use in PT comment section ?

Ford Tourneo/Transit Connect perhaps? The current one is based on the Focus platform. Though it is more like the Kangoo.

Imagine if Proton did this to its car and what kind of responseS they will get!

It is feasible overthere since the car price suite the market..in malaysia you can’t do business with this kind of vehicle at our car prices structure…

  • I tot Ford is going to elongate its short buntut Fiesta into a more eye-pleasing Fiesta sedan (FYI, current sedan is way much ugly than its 2003 pal: Ford Lynx 1.6), but it ended up covering its short buntut with a non-air-proof underwear, red colour somemore, wa-lau-eh!!
