Toyota 86 GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum: 330PS!

Toyota-86-GRMN-01

Like the idea of the Toyota 86 (we certainly do) but want more muscle in the engine and styling? The guys at Gazoo Racing gave their solution to that question a debut at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Salon. Called the GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum (phew!), this one gets a supercharger, a turbocharger and beefier, sharper styling.

The 2.0 litre boxer engine gets all the goodies from the GRMN Sports FR Concept shown at last year’s Goodwood Festival. It includes the addition of both a supercharger and a turbocharger, raising output to 330 PS and 431 Nm of torque. The stock 86 makes 200 PS and 205 Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox and mechanical LSD channel drive to the rear wheels.

Styling wise, Gazoo Racing has opted for a more square cut, slightly old-school look for the new front end, which gets a unique hood, bumper and lights. Side skirts and three additional vents adorn the sides, while the rear gets slim taillights, quad exhaust tips and a big wing.

The wheels are 18-inch BBS alloys wrapped with Bridgestone rubber – 245/40 front and 265/35 at the back. This is an inch up from the stock car’s wheels. Like the look? The 86 GRMN looks much more serious than the stock car, that’s for sure.

Inside the black/white themed cabin, Gazoo fitted a roll cage, bucket seats with four-point harness and a race style steering wheel, among other things. Oh, and by the way, GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring!

the styling is indeed much sharper but im not so sure about the design for the structure holding up the big rear spoiler…kinda ruins the feeling and not a big fan of the front end either. headlamps abit too rounded edge for the sharp edges for the car. jz my thoughts and any thumbs down for my post are just internet junkies who have no contribution.

This is complimental, not sarcasm: the front looks like a ghost and is cool. Good to have both chargers. Nice work.

Look wise, I still prefer the TRD version. This looks overdone.
