VIDEO: Volkswagen ‘Das Hund’ – a different quattro

Something a bit different to help the short week along – I was steered to this one by a friend, and thought it worthy of a share. It’s an European commercial done by DDB for Volkswagen, and the premise is simple enough, that of a dog imitating a car, in this case, a Veedub Golf. It’s the sound effects, however, that make it a gem.

Hats off to the creative people at DDB for coming up with something about man’s best friend, tying it up with our favourite passion. As my friend puts it, all car lovers should have a dog like this. Well, maybe not so much the alarm bit!

Yes, das, der and die would be gender specific, but the descriptor calls it as such, so we’ll follow what’s on.

Genius ad by VW! Wonder why Japanese manufacturers don’t make funny ads like this.

    • They prefer simplistic and easy but impact-ful adverts. The last gen Vios had one of the best advert, well Thailand that is. And than there is the 05 Accord estate advert in Europe which I think is ingenious.

You mean this one for the Vios

        http://youtu.be/WhvThIAm-Bc

and this one for the Accord?

        http://youtu.be/_ve4M4UsJQo

        The Accord one IS impressive.

But the one thing I did notice, may of these ads by Asian companies like to put in technical specs in their ads, like the cc of the engine, number of horsepower and also the number of gears the gearbox has. A bit too cluttered imo.

        • I got the feeling because Asian are mad with specs. There is an article saying that Mainland-Chinese likes to buy cars that has the most features/gadgets/toys in the cars. Sorta like Hyundai/Kia strategy to woo people with spec sheets. It works sometimes….

As for the adverts, yeah the Accord adverts are all done via one continuous shot and with no After-Effect editing or CG, which amazes me. And the Vios, no not that one, the one with the Kraken.

  • Great Advert, but to be honest I got the wrong message. To me, it feels like it’s telling me : A Volkswagen is like an uncontrollable noisy dog.

This model has even more reliability issues compared with the mk6. If you want to buy a golf your best choice is the tsi.

  • One of the best car commercials I’ve ever seen: “Why the Smart car is the safest car in the world”

I guess it’s very unlikely that we can ever watch such commercials on TV3… ;)
