Bentley_FlyingSpur_Teaser

The guys over at Crewe have got something cooking and it smells good. Really good. With a not-so-cryptic message saying “the new Bentley Flying Spur is coming”, we are told to expect a full reveal on February 20. Until then, all we have is this teaser image and a short video revealing select parts of the new car. Oh, that and a promise that the new Flying Spur will “redefine the standards of the luxury performance sedan”.

You had our curiosity, but now you have our attention.

The single teaser sketch simply shows the new car’s silhouette, suggesting a far more organic and sculpted shape than before. Whereas the outgoing Flying Spur has a straight, uninterrupted window line, the new model is shown to have a distinct crease along the rear windows, much like the power haunches over the rear wheel arches present on the latest Continental GT and the bigger, grander Mulsanne limo (our man Jonathan has driven them both; read the story here).

Also new are the air vents (working on a solitary profile sketch, we are assuming that Bentley has gone for a symmetrical design here) positioned just aft of the front wheels that were first featured on the controversial EXP 9 F SUV Concept from last year. Thankfully the new additions appear to work rather well with the rest of the car, unlike the rather dreadful concept.

Also worth noting is the fact that Bentley has dropped the ‘Continental’ moniker from the Flying Spur’s name, presumably to signify a repositioning of the two models within the company. To support this theory, the teaser video also shows enough of the new car to convey that it will share very little, visually at least, with its mechanically-similar coupe and convertible siblings.

Speaking of mechanicals, the new Flying Spur is expected to adopt the two-door Continental’s engine and transmission line-up. That means either a 493 bhp 4.0 litre V8 or a 567 bhp 6.0 litre W12 (each with two turbochargers) matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Bentley intended this teaser to whet our appetite for the new Bentley Flying Spur, and my how it worked! Now we can’t wait for the official reveal in two weeks’ time to get all the juicy details.
