Brace yourself, the new Bentley Flying Spur is coming

Bentley_FlyingSpur_Teaser

The guys over at Crewe have got something cooking and it smells good. Really good. With a not-so-cryptic message saying “the new Bentley Flying Spur is coming”, we are told to expect a full reveal on February 20. Until then, all we have is this teaser image and a short video revealing select parts of the new car. Oh, that and a promise that the new Flying Spur will “redefine the standards of the luxury performance sedan”.

You had our curiosity, but now you have our attention.

The single teaser sketch simply shows the new car’s silhouette, suggesting a far more organic and sculpted shape than before. Whereas the outgoing Flying Spur has a straight, uninterrupted window line, the new model is shown to have a distinct crease along the rear windows, much like the power haunches over the rear wheel arches present on the latest Continental GT and the bigger, grander Mulsanne limo (our man Jonathan has driven them both; read the story here).

Also new are the air vents (working on a solitary profile sketch, we are assuming that Bentley has gone for a symmetrical design here) positioned just aft of the front wheels that were first featured on the controversial EXP 9 F SUV Concept from last year. Thankfully the new additions appear to work rather well with the rest of the car, unlike the rather dreadful concept.

Also worth noting is the fact that Bentley has dropped the ‘Continental’ moniker from the Flying Spur’s name, presumably to signify a repositioning of the two models within the company. To support this theory, the teaser video also shows enough of the new car to convey that it will share very little, visually at least, with its mechanically-similar coupe and convertible siblings.

Speaking of mechanicals, the new Flying Spur is expected to adopt the two-door Continental’s engine and transmission line-up. That means either a 493 bhp 4.0 litre V8 or a 567 bhp 6.0 litre W12 (each with two turbochargers) matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Bentley intended this teaser to whet our appetite for the new Bentley Flying Spur, and my how it worked! Now we can’t wait for the official reveal in two weeks’ time to get all the juicy details.

  • Bentley has no more prestige anymore. It is virtually every where in Malaysia. The recon units are going for below RM399,000 even. Thus, you can see it everywhere. I think I see more more Bentleys on the road than Mazda CX5s.

Anyway, what is more important is to fight corruption and cheating. Most Bentley owners in KL it seems use road tax from Sabah and Sarawak that only cost RM4000 for their 6000cc car. yes, the government is being deprived or income tax from these Bentley buyers. Go and see most Bentleys, the road tax comes from Sabah and Sarawak and this is a legal loophole in the system. There are runners in Malaysia, mostly from the AP holders themselves, they get the road tax from Sabah and Sarawak and post it to the owner in Malaysia. Go and see any Bentley in town, you can see the road tax has only RM50 written on it. This is because the runner will go to sabah and Sarawak during the renewal and one day after that, they go back and ALSO say road tax got lost. So JPJ Sabah or Sarawk issues a copy for RM50. So when police in Semenanjung ask, they just say that it is a renewed salinan.

  • In conclusion, instead of the government getting RM18,000 from the Bently owner, they only get RM4000. Who loses? It is you and me. Government won’t have funds to build schools or help the poor. Classic example of the rich getting richer (through crooked means) and the poor getting poorer.

  • stupid rich prick. when u have the money, just pay when u r suppose to pay. I love to see the sight of bentley roaming KL. nowadays, more and more supercar roaming KL especially weekends. but by the means of avoiding tax or paying cheaper road tax is low class. driving a ultra luxury car doesnt mean u r high class if ur mentality is wrong.

the cx5 will be an exaggeration in the future but as of current it is the truth as the recon bentleys are priced in such a way they have grabbed some of the customers who were intending to buy bmw 5 and 7 series, audi a6 or a8 and mercedes e and s class buyers. the only thing that is preventing strong sales of recon bentleys is the massive road tax they have to pay. still, the road tax is no more expensive than a branded handbag or their kids private school fees.
