Renault Scénic XMOD crossover to debut in Geneva

Renault’s third-generation Scénic has gotten a mid-life facelift, and the compact MPV is due to debut in Geneva. Coinciding with that is the rollout of a crossover-inspired model called the Scénic XMOD, which will also premiere at the Swiss show.

The vehicle, which will round out the revised Scénic III line-up, features a number of crossover cues – raised ground clearance, special front and rear bumpers as well a new front end incorporating the brand’s new design identity as well as signature LED daytime running lights.

It’ll be the first vehicle in the Renault range to feature the all-new Extended Grip advanced traction control system. Manually activating the rotary control positioned on the centre console, the driver can choose from three types of assistance.

Expert mode manages the braking system but leaves the driver in full control of engine torque, while a Road mode offers conventional TCS settings but automatically reconnects at speeds of over 40 km/h. The last mode, Loose Ground, is pretty much self-explanatory, the system optimising both braking and engine torque control as a function of available grip.

Inside, novelties include a rotary control for the Extended Grip system and a fully connected Renault R-Link touchscreen multimedia system. The top-of-the-range version of XMOD includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminium-capped pedals and gear lever knob, as well as new stitched upholstery and a leather/Alcantara pack.

The Energy TCe 130 mill will be part of the engine range available for the XMOD, but no other specifications as yet. More when it debuts in Geneva.

The lekiu concept is more like the 1st Gen Renault scenic rx4 and it kinda makes me wonder ..why on earth?. . I hope proton will not make it.
Anyway I’ve driven the 3rd Gen scenic a while back and it was nice for long journey. Manual diesel ftw. I’d say its boring to drive a scenic everyday. Maybe this new crossover is different. It looks exciting enough.
