Geneva-bound Citroën Technospace previews next C4 Picasso; uses new EMP2 platform to shock the market

CitroenTechnospace_1

Set to appear at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the Citroen Technospace concept is a thinly veiled precursor to the production C4 Picasso. We’ve already seen the real thing completely uncovered just a few days ago, so there’re no real surprises in store here. In fact, we don’t see any major differences between the two other than the concept car’s body-coloured wheels.

Citroen claims that the new C4 Picasso will combine compact size with standard-setting roominess and record boot capacity, whilst offering enhanced interior comfort including a full-touch driving interface with a high-definition 12-inch panoramic screen.

The next C4 Picasso, due on sale in its home market later this year, sits on a brand new, aptly named platform called the Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) to match its shocking looks. Combining efficient architecture with an optimised mass layout, the new car will boast a record-low (for its class) CO2 emissions level of 98 g/km in its cleanest guise.

Also in the pipeline to use this platform is Peugeot’s next generation 308, and it’s expected to be utilised in no less than 50% of total PSA production in the long term. In other words, it’s their answer to Volkswagen’s equally modular MQB platform that has so far underpinned the latest Audi A3, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia, and Volkswagen Golf.

If only they could do without the second set of headlights. That makes it a bit ugly. Other than that weird but nice.

They should bring in the C3 Picasso, now THAT is a funky car!
