GWA 300 SLC – SLS Roadster in vintage clothing

You’d be forgiven for dismissing this as another Morgan at a fleeting first glance – but that distinctive grille should be enough to assure you that this looker didn’t come from anywhere near the sleepy English town of Malvern.

Enter the GWA 300 SLC, a one-of-a-kind bespoke machine built by the brave people at Gullwing America for a customer in Eastern Europe. Now it may look old-fashioned; its performance however, is anything but. Under that vintage dress lurks something far racier – a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster, no less.

The flowing coachwork, inspired by that of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (of which only 92 were built), is hand-formed aluminium. Obviously, some changes had to be made to the SLS; these include new LED headlamps, a special exhaust system, adjustable height suspension and a re-designed grille with an illuminated emblem on top.

Wheels are custom-made GWA Evolution units wrapped in Continental rubber, measuring a girthy 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the back. The pop-up rear spoiler has also been relocated, and a removable hard top finishes off the package.

How much? We don’t know. Somewhat dearer than the open-top SLS AMG, we guess.

Retrotastic, though I wish they’ve went with the Mini or the new Beetle round headlights.

Reminds me off Schmidt’s Hydra roadster from captain America, thou that’s more of a monster while this is an elegant lady.
