Nissan’s PS3 graduates too quick for their own good

648239_101202_1_5

Here’s a weird one for you: the latest batch of PlayStation 3-trained Nissan GT Academy winners’ bid to enter the real life semi-pro British GT Championship has been refused on the grounds of them being “too fast” for the competition. Say what?

No seriously, the PlayStation generation is getting out of control. Last year, 2011 Nissan GT Academy Jann Mardenborough winner blitzed his fellow grid mates in the British GT Championship’s Pro-Am class driving a Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 to come frighteningly close to winning the overall title, despite his lack of racing experience (in the real world, that is).

The entry was first thought to be nothing more than an extensive publicity exercise by Nissan and Sony to showcase just how accurate Gran Turismo 5 is, by pitting in-game masters in real-life races. “It’s so realistic that if you’re great in the game, you’ll be good outside the virtual world too”, they said. Turns out the videogame and Nissan’s GT Academy programme are an excellent tool to uncover natural driving talent too.

This year, the British GT Championship no longer wants to take the risk of letting these inexperienced drivers outshine and embarrass their grid of gentleman racers, forcing the four new recruits from Nissan’s various GT Academy programmes to find a different platform to showcase their raw speed.

Well now, being told that they’re too fast for their own good must do wonders for their self-confidence. Good thing these kids are now restricted to show off their superiority complex in the virtual world, where the only thing they can hurt is their own over inflated ego.

Wth? If the guy is good then, he is good. Why would they want to stop him from competing in a safe and control environment.

    racing grid politics?

I don’t see the problem why can’t they enter the championship. unless if there is safety issues to consider or other bullcrap reason they can come up with

sportsmanship at its worst. sore losers

If it is a gentleman drivers series I can understand that decision. Gentleman drivers are basically rich guys who enjoy driving, so they buy/build a fast car, gather a team around them and have some fun. Of course these amateurs would be pissed off if some pros suddenly join the fun, especially when they are nonames that have no real racing experience.

They should find a real racing league for these newcomers. One where companies hire the best drivers they can find.

Lol nissan and sony you’ve got the message, its time to start your own league rather than bringing miseries to those rich semi-pros. kudos to both companies though.

Nissan can find other platforms such as the Le Mans series, Japan GT, etc. It’s good publicity for Nissan and Sony.
What is next for Sony Playstation? F1 virtual champions racing against real world champions like Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso and Button?

    • Nope, they would not even hold against the most terrible on the grid. Unless they had proper physical training, i would say it’s impossible. The G force experienced while braking and turning will exhaust them in 10 laps.

Yes, that’s right. An F1 car is totally different. An unfit and untrained beginner will probably be dehydrated after just a few laps of taking those G-forces. And maybe puke after that.

Practice makes perfect, It’s actually quite qasy to get gold in the first few License trials. Perfect timing is the key and control is the key, also try to feather the accelerator if you have’t already, instead of holding the buttons, tap it constantly, i turns.

      Trying to help, good luck.

there’s a cheat for that. I think is to leave your PS overnight[6-hrs] and leave it on B-spec and Super hard tires after you’ve done 4/5 hrs of playing and least 3 laps in front of the opposition.

the PS will need cooling. That one is really tough and my fren help me finish it.

I’m sure the GT5 drivers are a talented lot, they can practice a lot more on simulators than in real cars but I wonder how much of it is due to the electronics in the GT-R itself? Most supercars today are much easier to drive fast with nanny controls and the GT-R is known to be one of the easiest to drive supercars out there.

haha, you sure put the nail in the head there!

sorry la, can brag la about how simulators can breed “real” race car drivers.

but on a bike, sorry la, only knowledge, experience, (and a few crashes along the way) can take you anywhere.
