Infiniti Q50 – diesel, hybrid versions for Europe

Infiniti Q50 Euro spec

The Infiniti Q50, which received its world debut in Detroit a couple of months back, now makes its European premiere in Geneva.

When it goes on sale in the autumn, the Euro-market BMW 3 Series rival will be offered with a 170 hp/400 Nm 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel sourced from Mercedes, and a hybrid 3.5 litre petrol V6 with a combined output of 364 hp.

The Infiniti Q50 diesel gets to 100 km/h from rest in under nine seconds and tops out at about 230 km/h, whilst being capable of returning a quoted 4.4 litres per 100 km and emitting less than 115 grams of CO2 per km. Transmission choices are a six-speed manual or seven-speed auto.

But it’s the hybrid that’s the scorcher here, doing the century sprint in under 5.5 seconds and then ploughing on towards a 250 km/h top speed. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.2 litres per 100 km; CO2 emissions at under 145 grams per km. This is only available with the seven-speed auto; if you wish, AWD can be specified.

Why buy this car when you can buy an Antis for 1/3 the price?

Actually it’s the other way round. The Infiniti logo is designed much earlier when there’s no such thing as chery yet. And they decided to copy Infiniti, and BM, and bentley for several automobiles owned by them…it’s sad
