Sir Elton John’s Ferrari Testarossa up for auction

Not sure about you, but I had a poster of the Ferrari Testarossa on my wall many years ago, along with the Lamborghini Countach and Porsche 959, of course. The Testarossa seems to be quite forgotten today though, compared to the likes of the F40. Here’s one that rekindled some old fantasies.

A Ferrari Testarossa formerly owned by Sir Elton John with only 3,380 km on the clock is to be sold by international auction house COYS at their Spring Classics sale in London. The 512 Testarossa, purchased new by the Rocket Man, only covered 2,916 km while in his ownership, but was always subject to an annual service.

It is well known that Sir Elton drove all 28 of the cars in his collection on a regular basis, and gave rides to many other dignitaries and celebrities before they were auctioned off by Christie’s in 2001. The 512 on offer here sold for £98,000 (RM455,740) at the time and passed to its current owner.

This 4.9 litre V12-powered 512 TR is reported to be in pristine condition. Finished in classic Rosso Corsa with a beige interior, it comes with a complete service history and a letter of ownership authenticity from Sir Elton. The estimated price now is £90,000 to £110,000 (RM418,429 to RM511,327).

The sale will also feature two Ferrari Dinos, arguably one of the most beautiful Prancing Horses built to date. One is a 1969 Dino 206 GT, one of only 152 models produced, once owned by Canadian film director David Cronenberg. The second one is a 1974 Dino 246 GTS in “French racing blue”, estimated at £170,000 to £180,000 (RM791,045 to RM837,737).

  • I dont see the specialty in owning a celebrities car unless it has a great history in its service. Anyways, The testarossa is the cheapest 12-cylinder car I can find in the 2nd hand market in Malaysia. Last time i checked(which was ages ago) some going as low as RM280k if I’m not mistaken. For a mid engine 12 cylinder pedigree stallion, its not that bad, and you get to tick off the ‘owning a Ferrari’ in your “things to do before I die” list, and join the exclusive Ferrari owners club.

It is. After 13 years…that’s a rather poor price…especially if you compare this to the earlier classic 250gt ..but of course the Testarossa was never really that popular
