Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its first all-electric production vehicle – the e-up! made its first showing at the Annual Press and Investors Conference in Wolfsburg. It’ll be a while before it makes its show debut though, the four-seater only due to do so in Frankfurt.
The 1,185 kg car was shown in concept form in Frankfurt two years ago, and there’s virtually no deviation in the production vehicle in terms of powertrain specs.
The e-up! is powered by a 60 kW (82 PS) electric motor, juiced by a 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Continuous power is 40 kW (55 PS) and maximum torque is 210 Nm, and performance figures include a 0 to 100 km/h time of 14 seconds and a top speed of 135 km/h, while operating range is 150 km on a single charge.
The car can be recharged to as much as 80% of its energy storage capacity within 30 minutes. A Combined Charging System (CCS), which supports both DC and AC charging and makes charging an easier affair is offered as an option.
Specific kit will include machine-polished 15-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights – deployed in a curved layout on the front bumper – and VW emblems with blue backgrounds as well as an e-up! logo at the rear.
Inside, the cabin features light-grey seat covers with blue top-stitched seams, and special leather and chrome accents get slapped on too. Deliveries of the e-up! are set to begin from early next year.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Today I saw my first Fiat 500 with a Penang plate on the NKVE. I don’t recall it being sold in Malaysia officially so most likely AP unit. But seriously, after seeing that , I say we need more cute cars on the road, bring the Fiat 500, VW UP! and Honda N-One.
VW is really the leader. If only BMW and Mercedes are as innovative as VW. One must be a foold to buy a BMW or Mercedes in Malaysia when you have brilliant brains in VW.
Well at leas the looks are rather acceptable for an electric car. I wouldn’t know it’s electric if it zips passed me.
The rear reminds me of Proton Emas.
Well, for the rest of the world, Proton Emas will remind them of VW Up just because the Emas wasn’t and isn’t in production. Actually, where the hell is that Emas car?
Emas mean gold? i never see that b4 but in Japan i see this car,and it’s cute and nice.
Chronology of events:
Italdesign Giugiaro designed the Proton Emas.
VW bought Italdesign Giugiaro 2.5 years ago.
Italdesign Giugiaro then worked on the Up!
EMAS still in the soil, u hv to dig to find it….
