It looks like the CKD programme for the third-generation Suzuki Swift has begun, and the first locally-assembled units have already made their way into the showrooms. That’s certainly what an ad for the car – as seen on oto.my – suggests.
The five-door hatch was launched in Malaysia back in January, with a run of 900 Rayong-assembled CBU units being deployed for the model’s introduction, with the CKD version taking over in a couple of months, which means the timeframe is about right.
Of more interest is the price of the CKD car, which is substantially cheaper than that of the CBU model. The Thai-built Suzuki Swift went for RM77,888, on the road with insurance. Meanwhile, the oto.my ad for the CKD version prices it at RM68,000, nearly RM10k less. There’s no mention of kit or specifications in the ad, so one wonders if there are any significant changes with the locally-asssembled model.
The Swift comes in a single variant form, the GLX 1.4 VVT, with a K14B 1.4 litre variable valve timing unit offering 95 PS at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm at the heart of things.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
If full spec below RM68k only worth considering.
Preve is still a better car
Bad image badge :( low class
Have to agree, Preve is a better buy. Suzuki should just close shop and concentrate on their motorbikes and kapchais. Want to make cars but don’t know how to make cara!
Old Swift = RM80k+ CBU
OLd ckd Swift = RM73k to RM78k..
old budget ckd swift = RM67k.
new swift CBU = RM80k range also..
so, expect RM5k pruce reduction also?
i think, it’s better if Suzuki can lauch a budget version @ RM66k immediately, dont wait till after few years.
can grab sales from Almera or Preve hatchback or even myvi 1.5L
I recommend swift, it’s more fuel saving then myvi 1.5L, hitting 14km/L vs 12km/L for myvi 1.5.
and, it’s more sexyly huge.
So what’s lost in the CKD, as usual? :)
CKD in Malaysia, wont bring u alot cheaper..
consider the CBU is imported from Thai, not Japan.
this should solve your Question:
1. Then, Why CKD? If CKD wont make whole lot cheaper then a CBU Thai?
reason: market liberalisation is coming.
2. what’s market liberalisation?
under this, all car will get cheaper. Gov have been carrying the steps out.. Gradually, car price got reduced. not only the oversea, but also local car.
3. What oversea car getting cheaper?
Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Almera.
4. What local car getting cheaper?
a. Perodua Myvi – price drop in 1.3A basic.
b. Perodua Viva – price drop in 1.0A basic.
c. All perodua – all given free service fr now on.
d. Proton inspira – free upgrade 1.8A to 2.0A
e. Proton Exora – free upgrade 1.6CPS to CFE, even come with free extra bodykit
5. What other oversea car getting goodies in this market liberalisation?
a. car below 2000cc get to CKD in Malaysia.
b. tax exemption of hybrid car.
6.But it does not explain why market liberalisation create interest for suzuki for CKD.
a. it does,
later, when fully liberalised, Suzuki can reduce the CKD swift car even further. Suzuki cannot reduce CBU car price easily under GOV market liberaliation scheme.
under CKD,car manufacturer can reduce car price easily when market fully liberalised, or under market liberalisation.
7. other facts:
a. Perodua admit Market liberalisation post-2016:

old cbu = shasimi, new cbu = tomyam
so be grateful even if ckd saving is 3k
but I think it’s 10k…
whatever it is…I want MT only, so im not interested.
Good price if it went for rm68k!
As long as the safety spec doesn’t changed, I’m fine with it at with RM68k. Just wish there’s a manual version, four speed auto dosen’t sounds nice condidering im very used to five-speed transmissions. Wonder weather the SSS will be CKD?
Yeah. Hopefully they launch with a good price. Fighting Kia Rio 1.4 and Fiesta 1.4 MT too.
Let the games begin.
Why Suzuki MY not dare to bring on DDiS version?
Its common in India then VVT version..

(Typed the wrong email…)
Went and test drove the cbu Thailand swift, according to the salesman the ckd car wears rear drum brakes and might not have some of the comfort creatures from the cbu units, like the keyless go etc. RM10k less for a lower spec ckd compared to a higher spec cbu? We are really getting ripped off with these car companies.. The Honda jazz hybrid is also the same classic case by offering the drum brakes with a lesser specs compared to the cbu Japan. It can be said to Toyota Camry etc. Suzuki Malaysia, why bother setting up a ckd plan and just sell us a lower spec swift.. No they want to make the fat chunk of money savings from the import duty.. I won’t be surprised if they pay less excise duty than other car makers, I mean look at Audis. What’s next? Ckd Audis? No thank you. The overpriced polo sedan aren’t selling well anyway. We’re the losers.
no rear brake disc for the CKD? oh mannnnn!!!! :(
since when cbu from thai has import tax?
Since when car sellers save money on import tax?
The buyer is the one who pay for it no?
i heard pakatan wanted to reduce the car prices in malaysia about 20% for the 1 phase. better wait until the next election. the car price can become lower than now.
no ur are wrong…actually 100% plus machine gun and bomb…
ooops…dont repeat u ulang i saman….
im now unwilling vote pakatan anymore….for reason to buying suzuki swift….
one more…im made money more easily by using by brain …than pakatan manifesto……
but back to the topic suzuki really a good car……yuo price a bit higher but im can pay because im use my higher potential brain in my life n not hearsey anymore…
PRAY FOR SABAH….
Why dont you use your so- called higher potential brain to correct your grammar rather than bashing PR manifesto about car taxes in this country?
Dont you aware that because of this manifesto, the trade ministry recently announced that duty taxes on the cars imported from Japan and OZ will be reduced?
I think your brain should be polished a lot more.
mastermind,
I am very sure your brain is below average.
Crappy comments plus Your English sucks, not possible you can make use of your brain to make more money unless you are a kronee, then money is easy for you as a cyber trooper.
Oh yes, i also hear the same thing. If 1st phase is 20% then by 2nd stage it will become like Langkawi’s free duties price.Soon, Toyata Vios G price at RM63,000 against now here about RM85,000.
Not only that, they can come out with people’s car at only RM25,000. Damp cheap like skinny Viva 660 BX price. May be they will team up Chery car co. or seek the helf of Tan Sri Tony Fernandes Air Asia to partner with Tata-Nano.
Our country soon will become paradise. Unlike Aus. and Canada where car prices are cheap, personal tax, pump fuel and food prices are all very expensive. But we will have everything on earth cheaply.
If that happens, all wage earners and students can own nice car and cities will be flooded with traffic jams and why bother to upgrade public transports.
I pity my used car dealer also needs to close down as car stock values come down drastically. Many car owners together with car dealers and salesman can become bankrupcts. Banks too will be in financial
trouble. Just imagine at 33.3% value drop, i all of a sudden become poorer for my three humble cars in hand.
There are extra promises. Other than car, fuel also cheaper, tolls are gone, income tax lowered and free education up to university level.
I am afraid more Thais and Sulus on top of Indons will migrate to this land. Though, Thailand cars are cheaper than us, they can enjoy bonus in fuel and cooking oil price together with flour and sugar.
I will turn my small share in used car business into scrapyard operator as i foresee many car owners will leave their cars stranded in K.L parking lots in order to avoid ‘ Kaki Tarik Kereta’ comes to the house.
Potential car buyers can always harbour hopes, but i believe it will probably ends up like Genneva Gold Scheme – Too good to be true.
Being learned in economics, i dont’ see any concrete plans for the revenue approach. Nothing going up except downs.
Come What May, i will hang on to my dream ride in Proton Preve cfe with open options to the likes of Merc C Class and VW Golf.
The above are opinions of the writer and may subject to contrary.
Yes we are heaven to all outside Malaysia. Thanks to BN so efficent giving us low tax, low price of cars. Plus many lucratvie jobs.
The next step is securing our border, maybe we can buy Hummer with GPNG on top. Blasts all terorist who wants our land.
Yes, blast also the ungrateful goverment servants. At the very least despite my comments i never work in the goverment. All along i am employed in the Malaysian chinese organisations and working on my own and not in any ways related to the ruling party.
At RM68,000 it is cheap compared to the one i bought 4 years ago at about RM71,000.
Overall, it is a good car for the price.
Seems about right…reasonable…
i hope that is not what im seeing thru the pictures. absence of rear disc brakes on the CKD. bcz in the first photo im seeing what seems to be drum brakes. if its true then suzuki can go fly kite seriously. people want swift with all round disc brakes, please and thank you
can anyone tell me when is the swift CKD will be out.
and is the resale value will be good?
A good option if nicely priced.. Better value than Vios J and Almera E….
hopefully the swift sport version will also be ckd. It will definitely be a bargain for it. Provided the specs are the same as the European version.
Car prices in Malaysia are totally crazy. But nevermind, Malaysians are rich and can pay car taxes like buying sweets.
If you dont have money, go buy viva. Small safety-less car, easy to die when involve in accidents. Less burden to the govt.
We must pay higher car taxes so that Proton can survive and our VVIPs can live richer and happier forever.
Malaysians should aspire to become like Tan Sri Vincent Tan, founder of Berjaya Corp instead of grumbling the high car price despite the low fuel price.
The humble billionaire recently made donations worth RM11.6 million to charitable bodies.
My wholehearted salute to Tan Sri.
For info Proton now is under conglomerate Drb- Hicom. The share counter now has a buy calls market perform among us Rem. in the stock market.
This is the dumbest comment i’ve ever read. Even your beloved Vincent Tan will laugh like crazy.
Let him laugh.Surely Tan Sri know that there are people respect him for his wealth and being generous to others.
all car price in asean is crazy…except brunei
Cost a bit dearer then our myvi extreme…. And it’s a Japanese brand at least….
My guess is CKD will have drum brakes at the rear.
Manual please !
I really hate that we, hapless buyers were depend on the courtesy of car companies due to pathetic tariff and non-tariff policy.
CKD supposed to be cheaper if not higher specs. When the global car prices reduced or maintain we’re forced to live with our high excise for cars and motorcycle.
Poor transportation left us without choice.
Force them to drop the price by ignoring them…
Let maintain our current rides and boycott buying new cars for a year or two…
When the buying stop, the killing can too…
When we work together, we can win this…
Good idea… Should look for second-hand cars…. Though maintainence (maybe) a little bit on high side compared to brand new cars…. But finding a good one is little bit hard…
that method can backfired…dont u think if car maker sees no demand in 1-2 years they will exit the market..with less choice less competitor there is higher chances of price increase..this is not food which can be substituted…..the logical way is to flood the market with more car..when car has many choices, competitor price will be drop
Nvr purchase a swift or a Suzuki again. The service management is so poor. I having steering rack issue for 5 years and there’s no any solution to solve for me.
i believe this new model is now using improved design steering rack….i also hv this rack issue w my current swift sport and hv replaced under warranty 3 times within 2 yrs…..after warranty hv to repair myself…..its been 5 yrs d….
ckd = w/o air bag but c/w steering wheel
The CX-5 CKD is the most conned way of doing business!
i own myv 1.5 and swifter 2011 version…
fuel myvi better with 14.5 km/l, swift 12.9 km/l only…
spaceroom….myvi win
bot spcae…myvi win
looks….swift win
enjoy driving….swift
handling…swift
value for money..myvi laaaa
It’s the older version of Swift.
New Swift uses only a 1.4L VVT engine, resulted in better fuel consumption: 18.2 km/l.
If new Swift CKD is priced right: RM66,000,
that can challenge Myvi Extreme price of RM61,000.
I have a 2008 Suzuki Swift and I have tested the new Suzuki Swift 2013 CKD. My personal findings:
1. New Swift have better and firmer suspension. The previous one is too soft and bouncy, especially over road bumps.
2. No noticable improvement in accleration, so status quo.
3. Rear seats are more upright and smaller, especially the cushion. Therefore not comfortable for long travels. The old Swift is better as far as rear seats is concerned.
4. Interior space feels slightly bigger, just.
5. Likewise, the boot space.
6. Styling wise the new exterior looks similar to the old one at a glance, but the interior looks more upmarket now.
7. So far the car is giving very little problems, touch wood, but some unidentifed sounds are creeping in. After all it is almost 5 years old.
8. Suitable for town use as it is very easy to park, but not recommended for long distance driving as the RNH and EPS does not inspire confidence at higher speeds – 130-140 km/h.
waa// u sure the rear seat is smaller?
i felt that is more huge, more comfortable.
Like this car! Very perky engine. Don’t feel sluggishness in this new model. Steering feel nimble. Handling is as good as previous model. But engine a bit loud when rev high, nevertheless I still like the wowing sound of the engine. just my 2 cent
When this model will be out???
I heard that CKD doesn’t have push-start button and rear disc brake.
heard that u only got 1 din hu
