2014 Hyundai Equus – the Korean S-Class enhanced

2014 Hyundai Equus-10

Hyundai introduced the redesigned 2014 Hyundai Equus premium luxury sedan at the 2013 New York Auto Show with enhancements to exterior and interior design, vehicle dynamics, material selection and tech. Hyundai cites big names like S-Class, 7-Series, A8, LS and XJ as the Equus’ rivals, so this has to be something special.

Exterior changes include new 19-inch turbine-blade alloys, slimmer chrome bars on the front grille, rearranged elements on the face, less chrome, new headlamps, LED fog lamps and redesigned wing mirrors, among other things.

Inside, the 2014 Equus gets a new instrument panel and centre stack, redesigned with more premium materials and an “ergonomically-correct layout” with new button iconography for quicker/easier feature recognition. The Ultimate variant shown here gets a large 12.3-inch TFT LCD centre cluster display.

Similarly, rear passengers will enjoy a new rear console and button layout, with available dual 9.2-inch adjustable seatback video screens. Those at the back can even search restaurant locations and provide navigation system directions directly to the driver’s navigation screen. Like a boss.

ICE is courtesy of a Lexicon audio system featuring Logic 7 tech. This surround sound system includes a 13-channel digital amplifier and 17 speakers producing 598 watts of power in 7.1 discrete surround sound audio. There’s also digital HD Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and iPod/USB integration.

In the driving department, Normal and Sport modes are now more differentiated thanks to recalibration of the air suspension. The front suspension bushings were also revised, and there’s a new Snow mode for both safety and ease of control in challenging road conditions.

The rear-wheel drive Equus is powered by a 5.0 litre Tau V8 engine – with 429 hp and 510 Nm, Hyundai says that the Tau has higher specific output (85.8 hp/litre) than its normally-aspirated limo competitors. The direct injection, Dual CVVT equipped V8 is paired to a Hyundai-developed eight-speed automatic with Shiftronic.

I don’t like the fact this Equus is so trying to resemble W221…but aside of that, Hyundai already developed their 8 speeders ? I’m so looking forward for their next gen vehicles..

      We are gentlemen.
Hyundai & Kia over recent years have made some significant improvements in their vehicles, they are very dedicated and determined with the objective to be at the same level as the German counterparts. Well done. Keep it up.

BTW, the whole world cannot be possibly blind, ya.
In case some of you cannot understand what I tried to express.

same reason as to why they show a map in an airplane to the passagers, unless you never fly before, i can assure you there is only 1 pilot and co-pilot, the passagers don’t pilot the plane.

i don’t understand why Hyundai doesn’t want to come up with a separate, more premium brand like Nissan and Toyota, and keep sticking to its own brand? you can only do that much, and add that much premium-ness to your brand, if your brand is known for making mass production cars, instead of luxury cars. not to mention how many Equus owners would love to be seen servicing their cars at the same place as Elantra owners? US is no Korea, so there’s no patriotism card to play.

I saw a few of this car in Lao. It was really impressive. On first sight, looks like a Merc but I once saw a S class and Equus parked side by side and the differences are very noticeable. Equus looked larger and more majestic.
