These are the first official high-res photos of the new Maserati Ghibli, which will make its world premiere at Auto Shanghai 2013 later this month.
The Italian carmaker’s ‘baby Quattroporte‘ is said to have a sportier character compared to its larger sibling, and will be available with two turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 engines – one petrol and one diesel.
With the latter, the Ghibli will be the first Maserati production car to be powered by an oil burner. These engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and will drive either the rear wheels or all corners via Q4 all-wheel drive.
The Ghibli will compete with cars like the Jaguar XF, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but we don’t expect an affordable starting price due to the lack of a baseline model to fight against the likes of the 520i, E200 CGI and 2.0 litre XF. Being a high end Italian marque and the fact that only large capacity turbocharged engines are available, a starting price closer to that of the BMW 535i is more likely.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Better looking, Interior and exterior, than any of it’s German counterparts.(though partly it has alot of hints of German cars…A6…F30) . I particularly like how the side profile lines split into two and gently curve at the end. Though I wished the face it’s a bit higher, the low nose looks as if it’s a sports car with a Saloon body.
i totally agree on raising the headlamps. i think that nowadays there are so many saloon cars that look so good, its difficult for maserati to design a REALLY pretty car.
Even though this looks pretty, it doesn’t scream SUPER saloon. maybe it looks a better in person, we’ll have to wait and see.
Now it isn’t more about looking pretty since almost every car looks decently good or handsome. It’s about looking different, the Nissan Juke, 2014 Lexus IS and 2014 Citroën Picasso. they all don’t look good, but they will stand out of the crowd.
The gear selector looks like its taken off a bmw! Probably the same zf gearbox as the bmw since the previous gen quattroporte has a 6 speed zf gearbox. Btw it looks more like a cls competitor to me, but if it does goes against the a6,e class, f10, etc, there might be a new leader in town7
First to says…..No Resale Value. Honda Rules !!!!
No offence Sam, those who can afford to buy this car dont really care about the resale values. BTW i dont think honda owners can even afford the second hand version of this car.
Well said bro. Spot on.
The Arabic word for ‘Hot wind from the Sahara
Desert’: Ghibli.
This sleek baby Maserati will
be a show-stealer on any road. As always …..
Only the Italians can can conjure this kinda stuff so well.
I admit Maserati have no resale value and the reliability is horrible. After sales is also hopeless case by Naza folks. Spare part price can give you heart attack few times. It make porsche ownership seem cheap. Better buy Toyota or Honda. Less headache. Only a fool with too much money will buy this unreliable piece of italian crap.
Resale value again bro, seriously?? The guy who will buying this car doesn’t border abt resale, spare part or even heart attack!!.. probably they already have CLS or XF, XJ or M5 on their garage.. Pls dont pretend to be a financial adviser for this blog.. this is car blog, lets enjoy the car..
Can make a baby gran tourismo???
Wonder when will Fiat revive Khamsin. Khamsin is my favourite Maser.
I think starting price for this car will be at RM600k. nevertheless, this beast is awesome.
Wish I could see more of these on our roads. Maserati cars are even more rare compare to Ferrari cars here!
Awesome design. Just plain Italian.
