Honda NSX to be built at new US$70m facility in Ohio

It seems the next-gen Honda NSX (concept pictured) is well and truly underway – Honda has announced that the supercar will be built at a new Performance Manufacturing Centre in Ohio.

The US$70 million (RM210 million) facility will take up an area of 184,000 square feet and will be the Japanese company’s third car plant in the Midwestern state.

The Performance Manufacturing Centre is set to recruit around 100 highly-skilled associates from within Honda’s existing Ohio operations. The hybrid powertrain, involving Honda’s SH-AWD and VTEC V6 unit, will also be assembled in Ohio, at the Anna engine plant.

Leading the global development team is Honda R&D Americas chief engineer Ted Klaus, and in charge of production is Honda of America associate chief engineer Clement D’ Souza.

The next-gen Honda NSX is expected to go on sale only in 2015, but pre-orders are already being taken over in the UK, where over 20 customers have placed their deposits.

American design good looking car but not so efficient engine and straight road only handling. Japanese design not so good looking car but efficient engine and great handling. When this 2 combined, another legend is born. GT-R, LFA, GT86 succeed their predecessor wonderfully, now how about NSX? And Honda should consider succeed their S2000 after they came out from the bad shape the facing now.

      • The original NSX was fame not for its performance or looks, but the package of it. Its engine was so revvy and responsive yet, for its time, quite fuel-sipping, and it handles like a boss. It was the original everyday supercar. Today we have another car that does exactly that, something that many accuse Honda(or Acura) of copying it’s design, The Audi R8.

Honestly, I want Honda to really take the R8 seriously, it is literally a modern day NSX, and therefore what this new NSX needs to compete. The other thing is I hope this NSX sparks a new generation of great Hondas again like what the original did. Honda was said there was a successor to the Honda Beat in the pipeline, its no S2000, but it’s something.

And seriously Honda, make a S2000. A, because we really want to see Honda making reliable, fun cars again. and B, because it will drop the RV on the current S2000; seriously how long can I’ve waited 3 years to see it drop around RM30k and I really lust for one.

  • as an NSX fanboy, i am quite surprised why this car is not manufactured in japan or prolly europe…but then again they are dubbing the car Acura NSX instead of Honda NSX anyway…

i think the builders of the former NSX should be called in too because the NA1 and NA2 stood out differently because they were hand made…

its sad that its made in the US because it could not claim the title japanese supercar (if it does it will be the second one after the title was crowned to the NA1/NA2)
