Mercedes-Benz Malaysia teases A-Class on Facebook

It’s no secret that the Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be launching soon in Malaysia, thanks to ads by eager salesmen and spyshots of the car. Here’s the first official teaser from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, as posted on the company’s Facebook page. The ‘coming soon’ banner is also a call for prospects to register their interest.

UPDATE: The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been officially launched in Malaysia. Read our launch report and view the pics here.

The most recent sighting of the A-Class was earlier this month, where a reader spotted the baby Merc being transported on the Kesas highway. Two different variants were visible, likely to be the A200 (nicer wheels than those on the red A200 from JPJ Putrajaya) and the A250 Sport. The latter, which looks fetching, has a more powerful 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine compared to the 1.6 litre in the A200.

Other than the sportier-looking bodykit, it also has a different alloy wheel design, which is identical to the sole A250 that we saw on a transporter earlier. Click here for indicative pricing based on classifieds ads that have been published so far, but keep in mind that actual launch pricing may differ.

We’ve driven the new A-Class, and you can read the test drive report here.

Some said this car targeted rich women/gay who want to go illegally fast, I can understand their concern.

A motor enthusiast had done a test and track run for both cars.
STOCKED Merc A250 chassis > TUNERS Vw Golf gti.
Balance and handling wise A250 win .
Interior definitely Merc had the upper hand .

      • Premature comparison if ur talking about the new mk7 golf gti with performance pack. That one is a great contender. And btw…gti uses the prob free 6 speed wet clutch-gearbox system for yr info. The 7 speed dry clutch dsg is the one ur talking about

    • Of course no match… DSG frequent break down… What’s not to like about it…

      • Then clearly you are not in this category for these types of cars. This car is meant for young spirited women or young executive who wants to look different than buying Golf Gti or Audi A4. Those 2 mentioned are so many in Malaysian road now.

  • Personally i think this car will sell like hot cake. If being priced strategically, it definitely will eat into the sales of Gold Gti. RM211k – RM230k is the best range. Dont ever think of buying this below RM200k as it is a RWD hatch.

The a class is not rwd. It’s fwd or 4wd.

The A250 is a FWD, whereas the A45 AMG is AWD. The only RWD hot hatch you can buy currently is the BMW 1 series.

    • Don’t expect this baby will b priced below 230k. Probably in the range of 250-280k slightly lower than its sedan brother c250

A Class is front wheel drive..with such price on A250, the MK7 GTI cannot neglect !! A200 also high price means Mercedes not interested go into the market.

  • Will K.I.V. for the next 2 to 3 years to see whether we get the capati instead or the 20% – 30% reduction as promised. Will keep the original brochure to compare and make sure no stripdown of specs by Merc.

  • the previous a-class model was a failure. Complaint on the foul sulfur smell from the engine through the air-conditioner. Unsolved issue until today. Very bad indeed. Not sure on this model

As a proud A200 owner as of last week, the car is well advanced from anything on the market at the moment in terms of technology and cabin feel and an actually pretty good 1.6 engine.

Nothing touch’s this car in the 1.6 engine category at the moment.

Very very comfortable drive and extremely good value at RM120k duty free.

To the comments above regarding a car for gays and women, all I can say is you don’t know what you’re talking about..but then again, you probably will never own an A200 or A250 anyways so why bother talking cock?
