In April, BMW announced the birth of an EV sub-brand for China called Zinoro, and that its first offering, based on the BMW X1, would be built at BMW Brilliance Automotive’s Tiexi, Shenyang plant.
What you see here, courtesy of our European spies CarPix, may just be that first product. Seen near BMW’s development department in Munich, it’s very obviously a BMW X1, but with reworked front and rear ends.
In place of the kidney grille is a more prosaic one-piece affair with a central badge (likely to hold this logo), while some interesting circular lights sit below the tail lamps. We can’t see any tailpipes either, which means, just like the BMW X1 ‘Hybrid Test Vehicle’ spotted earlier, this one’s most probably an EV.
Zinoro is scheduled to debut at Auto Guangzhou this November. Exports to other nations are still being considered – how does the idea of a Chinese-built BMW X1 EV strike you?
