Another Nürburgring lap record, this time for a series production electric vehicle – the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive becomes the first production EV to do the Nordschleife under eight minutes, clocking 7:56.234 minutes to eclipse the previous best time of 8:09.099 set by the Audi R8 e-tron last July.
The vehicle with which Mercedes-AMG set up the record on the 20.832 km course corresponds to the series version, which celebrates its launch this month. The car was unveiled in Paris last October.
Four electrical motors with a total output of 751 hp and 1000 Nm make it the most powerful AMG model currently. As the video of the run suggests, there’s plenty of push, but it doesn’t look like the lightest or nimblest thing to steer about. Still, definitely can’t say it isn’t fast or uninvolving to drive!
