VIDEO: Mitsubishi Mirage is “not like the others”

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has released a series of videos promoting its Mirage compact car. The Mirage’s unique selling point is its very good fuel economy, so it’s only natural for MMM to go on and on, and on, and on, on this point. Watch the video, you’ll understand.

The Mitsubishi Mirage was launched in Malaysia last November. Imported from Thailand, where it enjoys eco-car status, the Mirage is powered by a 1.2 litre three-cylinder engine with 78 PS and 100 Nm of torque. This DOHC MIVEC engine is paired to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

Drivetrain aside, the Mirage weighs just 825 kg, or 850 kg for the CVT, and this light weight contributes to the good FC, which stands at 21 km/l measured in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

That’s an impressive figure that’s very close to what some hybrids can do, and the battery-powered cars are much more costly. The manual GL spec is priced at RM55,583, the CVT GL RM60,453 and the top-spec CVT GS costs RM63,375 on the road excluding insurance.

Three more videos hailing the Mirage’s other virtues are after the jump, and you can also see MMM’s previous set of videos featuring double Dakar champion Hiroshi Masuoka here.

fail to convince me & imho the advert is what i like to call typical malaysia’s commercial. maybe mitsubishi marketing team does not count me as their target market segment. the car price does not help either. just my personal opinion

Yes unlike Thailand, Indonesia (Eco Cars Tax Incentive) here at BolehLand the fuel-efficient cars being punished with the same 75% car excise duty as other fuel inefficient cars. ABSOLUTELY UNFAIR CRAZY CAR TAX SYSTEM!

If BN really tolong rakyat then revise the car tax structure like this:

Fuel efficiency (KM/Liter) = Car Excise Duty Discount
    ———————————————————–
10 KM / Litre and below = No discount
    Eg. Preve, Lamborghini Aventador etc.

    10 – 15 KM / Liter = 20 percent Discount
    Eg. Myvi, Vios etc.

    15 – 20 KM / Liter = 25 percent Discount
    Eg. Prius, Insight etc.

20 KM / Liter and above = 30 percent Discount
    Eg. Mirage, Brio etc.

Looking at the interest rate difference between national & imported car and for long term use + fuel efficiency I think I’m gonna go for the Mirage. With the current price tag for national car I think it’s crazy. Malaysian should have discount for Proton & Perodua otherwise its just bullshit.

    boring commercials! no impact!
the main selling point is, affordability! should promote more on special schedule repayments with special interest rate. target market is more to young executives, and those looking for replacement. if can afford at this price range, prefer local model, such as proton preve. neo, persona, myvi, or alza…
car actually cantik and cute, but disebabkan polisi gomen, harganya bertambah.

  • Is that a Perodua Kelisa on the third ads?

  • Looking at the ads, probably they are using the same ad agency as Proton. Compare here, compare there, in the end makan sendiri.
Anyway, what do you expect from the Proton of Japan?

If put young cute female Eurasian, sure no complaint.
But put locals, a guy and fat some more, sure got complaint. Lack creativity lah, fail to convince lah, etc. Typical Malaysians…
Have you seen Japanese commercials? OMG.
