Teased in this set of images is the upcoming Skoda Rapid Spaceback. Essentially an estate version of the global-market Rapid (not to be confused with the earlier Indian-market Rapid), the Spaceback is expected to make its debut at the Frankfurt show in September.
In the same way the Rapid hatch bridges the gap between the Fabia and Octavia, this one should sit between the Fabia Combi and Octavia Combi.
Auto Express says that the Spaceback is externally similar to the standard hatch up to the C-pillars, after which it gets its own estate shape, but those trademark C-shaped tail lamps remain. Reportedly, its rear doors are longer and its rear quarter windows, larger. Needless to say, boot capacity should be more than the hatch’s 550 litres.
The powerplant menu is expected to be shared with the hatch, including a new 90 hp 1.6 litre TDI that can be specified with a fuel efficiency package which adds low-rolling resistance tyres, regenerative braking and stop-start.
